Red Mage?Follow

So what are thoughts of Galkas as Red Mages. I'm playing one right now and at early levels it seems to be pretty nice. I don't get massive amounts of MP, but the ability to take hits (which I couldn't do as one of dem little guys) seems to make up for it. Think this will still work as a solo stratigy in later levels?

not really, as red mages get higher level, their role switches more to a pure mage, their melee skills start to fail at the high end and the galkan lack of MP is going to hurt in the long run. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Soloing for gaining exp in high level becomes soooo difficult whatever job or race you choose.
But soloing for looting is another matter, and Red mage's melee skills and curing ability are very useful for it.

And lack of MP hurt you maybe but you can compensate for it by equiping astral rings, various hairpins, Elder series and so on.

Galka are slightly gimped in the casting department. I'm thinking they probably make good Paladins since they can take a beating, and put out damage as a tank class, but I wouldn't depend on them too much for Red Mage. I'm trying one now, and his INT goes up very slowly, causing him to not have such a great mana pool to cast from.

I really dont think it'll matter much in the later levels. I think you will beable to find gear to make up for the lost MP and with the addition on the extra HP's could make for a good Red Mage. I will go on a limb and compare them to EQ's Shaman. Good example is Troll Shaman, low Wis to start but very easy to compensate at the later stages of the game. Yea, I play a Troll Shaman but have been able to resist the temptation of trying a class so close to one I played for 3 years.
So,I think the chance in the long run could be for the better or just as good.

Galka and mithra are the best races... they are always the best, 2nd best, or 3rd best for whatever you want them to be... but mithra are better than galka because mithra also rank 3rd or 2nd best for casters, whereas galka always come in 5th. Basicly, keep the galka red mage IF you plan to switch to dark knight/red mage later in life, otherwise forget it. (if you were a tarutaru, you could be a ninja/red mage later)

I'm a galka redmage at LVL 35. I find that i make an all around good player, able to cast magic with out the worry of dying due to hate build up. Also being a Galka i can hit really hard which makes me able to beat on the monster with a group can cast magic. If you going to go with a Galka redmage, i do suggest picking up the elder braces/boots. They helped me out alot. Also go with a Subjob that gives extra MP boost. So your stuck with black/white/summoner. I recomend doing black mage then you can warp around at RDM-34/BLM-17. Also hairpins are bad, best keeping good headgear on for protection. I havn't unlocked summoner yet, but that be the best if you just want to focus purely on highlevel redmage thats LVL 50 and beyond, such as haste. Like others say later in the game you cna pick up rings that convert HP to MP, but beware those cost alot. On odin server, Astal rings go for 140,000gils a piece!

One last thing. It's your character, your game don;t let other people tell you ooo that combination is bad. Well who cares you playing for fun. If it sucks and you enjoying your self then its a good combination!

That's technically not true. Galka with MP conversion gear or RSE make great WHMs. They have 2nd most MND (tied with hume) and decent INT.

High MND doesn't matter when you don't have the mana to back it up. Taru make the best WHM and BLM because of a vast mana pool. Also, the high MND is somewhat irrelevant as the spells that can take advantage of high MND before becoming capped cause excessive amounts of hate.

Hello...just a quick thought however...at lvl 40 the Red Mage gains convert HP to MP....ummm...Galka seem to have quite a bit of that. It might not be as bad as you think. I have not yet tried it..but I am using a Red just for giggles..who knows..it is something to think about.

"excessive amounts of hate" are not something galka casters have to worry about too much, so they can abuse their MND more freely.

Just get a few or all of the Race Specific Equipment and you'll be set, +96 mp is very nice not to mention the boost in INT and CHA.

Now in terms of the Job Specific Armor, you only get +80 mp, but it looks kick @$$ and 16 less mp prolly wont make much of a difference unless of course your a munchkin.
