The first thing that popped into my head as I was reading the gnome mountain description? R.E. Howard's novella Red Nails. Premise of his book being three factions trapped in domed city. Other things featured in the book? Conan's corded, rippling neck muscles, a rather hot warrior princess and a very ticked off wurm.

The original 1936 serialized story was republished by Gnome Press in 1952.

^Hilarious.

------

short version of the gnome story:

Gnome Memorial Mountain is a lost zone from TBS... like the Kedge and such "preserve them habitats"

In this case, the story goes "oops Bloodmoon orcs snuck in and ate all the gnomes". So it's an empty gnome city/tomb full of clockworks and possibly orcs?

That's my attempt at brief, not sure how accurate Smiley: nod

EverQuest 20th: Preserving the Past Content

Explore Gnome Memorial Mountain for the first time on EverQuest's 20th Anniversary on March 16, 2019! Gnome Memorial Mountain is a new open world zone full of quests, collections, and raids for players level 95 and higher. Just recently, the massive domed habitat has breached the surface of the sea, and gnomes have been diligently working on transport to help Norrathians reach this unexplored domain.

per Prathun Developer
Gnome Memorial Mountain is not time-limited. It will stick around after the 20th Anniversary events have ended.

So, as we're updating this content on this site, I've noticed it's all been tagged as TBL. Within EQ, all of the achievements are under SoF expansion. Should we continue tagging on Allah as TBL since that is the era of release? Just want to make sure, it was confusing to me. :)

When looking at zones under expansions I group the zones by geographical location unless it's a zone that was released with an expansion. Items, quests, npc's I group by the expansion they were released in.

EQ would be the 77th biggest economy in the world, according to that link, right between Russia and Bulgaria, so it says.

So Russia has the 76th biggest economy in the world? Yet we treat her as a superpower and dangerous enemy? I get it some of that is due to possession of nuclear weapons. But there has to be something askew about how they rank economies. Otherwise if Norrath went "rogue state" we'd all be in serious trouble!

This isn't the only place I've seen such data. I remember one chart that had tiny Belgium ahead of Russia.

LOL, 77th.

That's the problem with "I saw an article somewhere"

Do a search. I looked up the wiki for largest economies by GDP. They have charts from three sources, so you don't have to take just one data point. IMF, World Bank, and UN. Russia is 11th, 12th, or 13th.

BTW, Belgium is ranked 25th on all three, with roughly 1/3 of the GDP of Russia.

Seriously, is it time for journalists to be rounded up and shamed publicly? They're useless.

Thing is, I bet 90% of Russia's economy is "under the table." So even 77th place or 13th place, if you add in all the black market and grey market production, they rise up a lot higher.

I mean how in heck can they calculate the size of national economies? Surely it has to be based on data supplied by those countries and frankly that kind of data is considered of strategic value. Somehow I doubt China and Russia let us review all their accounting ledgers, and if they do I doubt we're seeing the "real" ones.

Keep in mind that the research paper was written in 2001. I should think that the world economy rankings have shifted a bit since then, not to mention EverQuest's economy. Certainly, EverQuest's player base isn't as high as it was back then.

Interesting to hear that Holly Longdale thinks that the Advanced Looting System is terrible. I wonder what changes they'll make?

Yeah I hate the looting system. I learn it, then don't use it for awhile (when I solo/box) and then forget everything I learned.

It causes drama on progression because of mixed viewpoints on need/greed.

They should have just put a "I would take that" option.

Any no drop you can pass on (if you have the pop-up notification --not even sure you can disable that one).

Other situations would be covered by the master looter option.

As well, the much longer corpse rot has created a much easier loot rights economy. So that may be a trigger issue for them now?

Funny how much discussion of reversing Freeport. I just went through Freeport with my new character on a TLP server (I always move to Butcher/GFay with every new toon, those are my fave noobie zones) and I remarked to myself how incredibly complex the work was to revamp Freeport yet I did prefer the old Freeport and so did everyone else, I think, since almost nobody was hanging out in the new Freeport. What a foolish decision to revamp Freeport and whenever devs talk about the immense work involved in making a change that current players keep asking for, I wonder how much could be accomplished if they had packaged all the programming hours from the Freeport revamp and could make that skilled block of time available now.
