I thinking more along the lines of the named for the LDoN Hunter Achievement in relation to your spawn hypothesis

But that 30AC aug is admittedly kick butt'. :-)

Uzrinar the Damned...

After a ridiculous number of clears he finally spawned for me at 234,586,1166 at the beginning of a bridge behind the hut with 3 apes.

Since this spot is mentioned nowhere, not even on Magelo, I do think it's likely that any ape can be a PHer but I'm not about to prove it by continuing with this endless camp.

This was a painful camp which I just about gave up on, TBH. I had a gut feeling this Sunday morning, logged in and cleared every ape except for the 3 in the hut who actually killed me due to not paying attention. By the time I rezzed, ported to my GH to rebuff and returned, this shy guy had spawned. He blinds and forces you to feign death so you can't cast even thru the blind till you stand up.

About time! Now for Seedspitter and then done with this zone!

Breeding Grounds:

Quick kills of A vicious Hatching (literally first egg I encountered), Gosik, Iciclane, Nefori, Osator, Velishan. I don't think I had to clear more than 1 PHer for any of them.

Then I figured of the last 5, 2 of them are close together in the Chetari tunnels so I camped the undead dracolith, Zalifur, and the King of the Chetaris, Itkari.

At least 15 clears of Zalifur's PHers and 12 of the King's. I even brought in my enchanter who has NO hunter kills in this zone. No named pops.

What does this mean?

Beats the heck out of me.

Could be the RNG, for sure. But seriously, the first 6 kills were sooooo easy, I had high hopes for the last 5, which have been dashed big time!

I think I can continue to make my case for Hunter named spawns to get scarcer for a player who has completed most of the hunter kills for a zone.

Breeding Grounds, updating my info from above.

I have 2 left, Akyail and Charra. I haven't even tried Akyail. Up to 27 clears of Charra's 2 PHers with no success. Mostly been doing this duo'd with my enchanter since it's easy to get a lot of adds around Charra. She has 5 of 11 completed, so that doesn't seem to help.

As I said in the post just before, the first 6 kills in the zone were very quick, 0-2 clears beforehand. Now I'm down to the last 2 and I'm up to 27 clears for just one of the nameds. I may switch to Akyail for a while, as I'm developing a case of "Charra Fatigue." No binding in this zone so it's annoying to get around.

RNG strikes again? Seems too pat to me. Just for the Rain of Fear Hunter Achievements, I've seen this phenomenon in 5 or so different zones. That's not random, in my book.

Got Charra after 41 clears of 2 PHers each time.

Last named is Akyail, be interesting to see how that goes...

4 clears for this last named, Akyail. Mucho relief, done with Breeding Grounds lol. On to Heart of Fear!

Yeah. this is counter-evidence to the theory behind this thread, except for his predecessor required 41 clears.

Akyail is the only Hunter named in this zone with THREE place-holders (all the rest have only 2) so I'm going to argue the 50% surplus of PHers affected the odds! Smiley: nodSmiley: lol

Heart of Fear has been a mixed bag so far. I was only able to get 2 nameds in the Threshold despite clearing EVERY enraged EVERY round. Which leads me to think they're just generally uncommon. I moved one level deeper into The Rebirth and had less luck, not even getting one to spawn. Out of sheer boredom I zoned into the Epicenter, and after camping all the enraged spawns, which are easiest to access quickly in this central zone, I got them all over the course of a week of very casual play. The last couple were not particularly hard to get altho one has a death touch and the little so-and-so managed to wipe my duo, forcing me to try, try again.

Having completed the Epicenter's monster inventory, I moved back to the earlier zones and was pleased to find one named up in each zone. So now to complete this entire expansion's Hunter Achievement, I need 4 in Threshold and 6 in Rebirth. Let's see how this goes. I am duoing now with my enchanter since dual IV/IVU buffs allows free movement thruout the zones.

Hey there, back from some breaks and diversions, etc.

Just working on some Hunters, and the latest experience made me remember this thread :)

Finished Lceanium a few weeks ago, and have to say, none of the ones I camped (got quite a few just finding them randomly up) took particularly long. Of those I camped, the last two, the yeti in the cave and the spider in the cave, took less than an hour each to spawn. Respawns in there are fast, but still, it's less than 10 spawn cycles (times 3 spawn spots each).

Now have been working on ETWK. Now, I haven't been doing it strictly according to your method (break the names into groups ahead of time, work on one group at a time, etc). Got several who just happened to be up when I checked. The rest from killing PHs for 3-6 names at a time, with the list changing on the fly as I'd get some names, and then throw another PH spot into the mix. I'm now at the end of the list (Oklaric), and have now cleared the PHs 20x3 times, and still no name. Technically, this is by FAR the longest camp for me in this zone (none of the others even approached 10), so that would seem to back up your theory, however, this named spot was on my original set of spots to clear, and has remained as I've cleared all the others. So, it SHOULD have popped quickly at the beginning, since I only had a few names in the zone cleared, but it didn't.

Anyway, all just interesting data points. Now that I remembered this thread, when I start my next zone, I'll do the whole break into groups and just clear those groups thing, and report back.

Welcome back, Tatank!

Just saw an alert about your necropost! Smiley: lol

Also just re-read the whole thread cuz I had forgotten a lot of it. Boy, some of us can be very verbose. Smiley: bah

I'm still working on Hunter here and there, in Call of the Forsaken at this time. I haven't seen this phenomenon as much lately but mainly because I'm not clearing PHers in quite as structured a manner.

I was working on one room in the castle in Neriak: Fourth Gate. Cleared the PHers for Arch Lich Lyra about 15 times and no luck. I thought I was clearing for her and also for Archon Kela, because they appear to be in the same room on the map but I was misreading it. Archon's spawn spot is one floor above that room. Smiley: banghead

In any case, since the zone is bindable I bound there and ported out to PoK. I did NOT clear the Phers before exiting since that would make no sense if I didn't plan to wait for respawns.

I gated back the next day and she was standing in one of her spawn spots.

Anecdotal evidence? Maybe. Maybe not. NOBODY goes into that zone anymore. All the time I spent over 3 days camping the hunter nameds and I never saw even one other player. Could someone have passed thru overnight, cleared her PHers and then left and not checked back on her popping, thus leaving her for me to luckily find the next day? Possibly.

More likely, there is some odd mechanism which sometimes causes nameds to spawn unexpectedly. I've seen this time and time again over my 20+ years of play.

It's almost like RL UFOs.... Smiley: glare

My guess... somebody came through. Hard to believe not a single player might wander through from time to time. Especially since there are collectibles in there. That's the most likely reason someone came through.

I just logged in to update my recent post..... after camping for a while in ETWK this morning, I log in tonight, and there's my last namer sitting right there! So that zone is done (minus HA namers, but that's a separate achievement).

Unlike you, I do often clears the PHs right before I log, especially when it's a zone which doesn't get much traffic. And, as you can see, it benefited me today. Twice actually, since this morning, I got the next to last namer I needed in that zone, who was up when I logged in, because I cleared the PH last night ;)

Neriak Fourth Gate. Ten nameds for the hunter achievement. I left the Entrancer for last. She has FOUR placeholders located in 2 different rooms. I had to clear all 4 about 13 times to get her to spawn. That means I had to kill over 50 placeholders to get this one to spawn. Every one of the 9 previous required no more than 5 times, and at least 3 of them only took one clear to spawn.

If you're game, or anyone is, to refute my theory, and assuming you haven't done Hunter for this zone, give it a try. Either start with her and see if she spawns quickly or let her go to last and see if your experience is similar to mine.

I had no particular reason to let her go to last. Since the zone is bindable I was following my strat of binding at 3 different spots near 3 nameds at a time. 3x3=9, leaving the 1 named still to kill. Totally random that it was the Entrancer.

Tower of Rot went smooth as silk. I did the nameds one by one since zone isn't bindable. No named was particularly tough. One spawns in an instance and I was worried about that since some players mentioned doing it 15-25 times before they got the named to pop. Well, I followed the advice of one player in the mission thread as to how to shortcut the mission to get right to the point where named "has a chance" to spawn and, sure enough, she did spawn. 15 minutes start to finish and now I'm done with Tower of Rot. This zone refutes my contention in this thread altho that's far from definitive. This zone could just be an exception. The +76% increased spawn rate for Independence Day holiday week may be a big factor as well.

Reward is a decent 32-slot bag, which ain't bad reward at all for slaughtering 10 mobs. If I had known that going in I'd have run it for my whole group.

This is an intriguing question.... I'd love to see stats on how long a zone remains unvisited by players. Surely the devs have the data but doubt they'd ever release it, probably because of the work it would require to generate and distribute the info for user consumption .Even with ground collectibles, though, I bet there are older obscure zones that can go days between player visits.

Depends how you define "older". I would not put CotF (N4G) into that category.

And there are no collectibles before RoF.

If you want to call anything pre-collectibles "older", I'd mostly go along with that, with the exception of VoA and HoT. Doesn't matter when I go through any of those (HoT, VoA, RoF, CotF), there are always other players around. Maybe not in every zone, but somewhere in the expac, and since I'm not on much anyway, that tells me all of those zones likely get at least some daily traffic.

I'm doing Cazic-Thule right now which is an original world zone, although it was upgraded at some point so now it shows up here as "2.0."

This zone has a crazy 52 named mobs for the hunter achievement, which has to be the most in the game for any hunter task and is just plain nutz! Butcherblock Mountains requires---count 'em---ONE---that's ONE mob! Both achievements earn you 10 points.

I have 23 of the 52 killed after considerable time in the zone. Apparently some of the nameds are especially rare and I do think I'm reaching that point. I've cleared both the underwater areas and the mosquito tunnels at least 12 times and not seen one of the 6 or so nameds that inhabit those regions spawn yet. I'm a patient hunter (sorta) but not sure I have the patience for this level of challenge.

I think I should find an ideal zone for hunter achievement and do the ultimate test: take both of my druids and basically perform the kills in reverse order and keep track of how many clears I have to do for each named. Yes, one test won't be definitive but it'll be a good start. I still am supportive of the my original contention stated at the top of this thread but I will concede it's variable and not always in effect and, indeed, it may depend on the zone.

I'm going to assume most mobs are all just tied to the RNG with an equal chance to show.

I've been doing the hunter achievements since they included them in-game and have HoT through CoV (T1 only) 100% complete. I just started working this year on LoY, skipped LDoN, and am doing GoD through UF with the introduction of those earlier this year. I sit in the zones for about 10 hours, Monday through Friday with my alt ranger and mage, while grouped with my main crew for credit.

It's slow going, but everything eventually spawns given the time and the right PHs. I've tried to come up with a handful of spawn theories, but nothing holds true. I camp out at night, note the rares that are up on track and then when I camp in the next day, see what names are up and which are down. Most of the time, it's the same rares I logged out with. On the rare occasion the rare list has changed in my tracking window, I chalk it up to someone came into the zone for something and killed a rare on their way. Every once and a while some lower level players will show up for a lesson burn, or to camp one particular mob. There's even been a few 100+ players coming for a few rares for their own hunter.

On a side note, thanks Gidono for adding all the new hunter tasks to the site. I'm trying to grab screenshots, map locations, spells, and loot as I make my way through, but I predict it will take a good 6+ months for me to get around to uploading them all.

For anyone else out there doing hunters, good luck--I find it fun!

Switched to Seeds of Destruction. This was back when an expansion was an expansion! Awe-inspiring zones! Kaesora Hatchery is tiny and the 5 nameds are close together so banged those out quickly. Was hoping that would be an auspicious sign for the whole expansion. Went to the Kaesora Library and things looking good as I got 9 of the 10 nameds pretty quickly. Now I'm working on Aquadominus Selestian and let's see how long this takes. No particular reason for leaving this one last. The zone is easy to navigate so I was clearing all the placeholders in one fell swoop.

Incredible zone, though. Really mind-blogging. Between clears I wander it just to admire the architecture and the design and I find my mouth hanging open IRL! They just don't make zones or expansions like this one anymore. I think I'm going to stick with SoD until I get whatever bag is the reward for doing all the hunter achievements!

One mob left in Kaesora Library... the unforgettably named Aquadominus Selestian.

Now I have cleared known PHers about two dozen times. In fact, the last 12 or so times I've cleared the ENTIRE large circular room and that's probably 50 mobs, just on the oft-chance that the PHer spawned and wandered off and I keep missing it. I mean this is real carnage. Corpses everywhere! I'd lament "Ohhhh the Humanity!" but they're---um---lizards.

NO luck. Very annoying.

The previous 9 nameds for the Hunter Achievement in this zone... well, they tumbled like dominoes. I doubt I cleared more than 4 PHers for any of them. There's no particular reason Aquadoc should be especially rare. It's not a particularly out of the way mob and it seems to have multiple spawn points. I've been clearing it along with about 6 other PHers, after I got lucky and found the first 3 nameds up almost immediately upon entering the zone.

Is it the RNG.... or.... could it be something much more.... SINISTER!? Smiley: sly

Finally got Aquadominus Selestian to spawn. Required about 30 clears of PHers, the last 15 or so of the entire floor, approximately 50 mobs at a time. So I probably had to kill over 1000 mobs to get this named to spawn.

The previous 9 nameds for the Hunter achievement, I estimate I had to kill about 25-30 mobs TOTAL to get all 9 to spawn. I was fortunate to have 3 of them "up" the first time I zoned in.

Working on Korafax next. 10 named mobs for the hunter achievement.

Recently finished off Cazic-Thule Hunter, a ridiculous count of 52 nameds.

I will say this zone probably did not support my contention here. The very last named did take quite a while, but it was a fish, a barbed scale piranha, in the first underwater area headed to the mosquito tunnels and I cleared those fish every time I went there, from the very beginning. Meaning this mob was tough to spawn from the very beginning, since I spent about a month, on and off, pursuing this Achievement.

Based on previous experiences though, I still contend there is some kind of relationship between Hunter named spawn frequency and how close a player is to completing the Achievement. It may not be apparent in every zone but I think it's there. Just read my earlier experiences as described above for evidence.
