...In the Luclin era:

Edit: thread started as a mid 20's discussion...

-where would you hunt? (Unrest, Upper Guk, Marus Seru, Dawnshroud all seem to be the Phinigel server choices)

-what quests and/or drops would you go for (or have already done) and be able to get yourself or in an at-level group?

-if baz was your candyland, what would you buy? (or even if you were poor broke, but could save up to splurge on one thing, what would that be?)

Curious of opinion on these, with all our modern game knowledge looking back at that era, with the twists that apply to progression servers. Example: some formerly rare stuff is being farmed like mad in instances, so the Phinigel economy looks different.

Note: I picked mid 20s as that is where I am. Lots of req level gear kicks in at 51 and 55 it seems, so I think it changes there. Feel free to mention that stuff too.

and if you want a refresher on some old threads: here and and here have some good stuff.

Traveling without sow across multiple zones caused me a great deal of anxiety and grief - Jboot MQ or go to OOT and beg for help with the AC. You really must have sow up at all times - especially in Luclin because cross-zone mob traffic is particularly heavy and unpredictable. Is Hadden perma-camped? Get the EB clicky. I'd not damage Guk faction until you have FBSS and mask. You can get a free haste quiver by killing the halfling in Katta Castellum and a free proc'ing 1hs from a quest between TS and Sanctus Seru.

I still think the ramp in Overthere for rogue in the 20's is best. If you're kos at the OT outpost have someone bind you under the rowboat along the shore. Assuming you looted a mask in LGuk then proceed with collecting braids for the port hammer. CoM at 30 if you can get a group at the entry area - bind near the entrance. CoM is excellent experience to 45.

Binding in zones where you grind experience saves a lot of time.

Weapons? Whatever you can afford. Haste belt? Armor? Banded?

If Luclin is available, then so is Velious. So for armor, I'd pick up a set of Ry'gorrs for a rogue character. Probably tie you over for most of your leveling. At least in terms of visible armor slots.

I loved Sol A and Najena in the 20s and 30s. Overthere used to be the popular spot, though. Not sure whats popular on Phinny.

Most of the Phinny Playerbase follows the same leveling track:

Newbie area born in, GFay and some insist on FoB. Ironically, Shar Vahl pit isn't always used.

Crushbone, though Paludal has really lessened this, South Ro crocs and orc highway used to be busy

Unrest

Upper Guk, Dawnshroud has taken a piece of this for sure

City of Mist

Velketors' Labyrinth, Lower Guk, Old Sebilis

Greig's End

Note that if it is older dungeon with ZEM, it's probably where the population is. Outdoor zones can be very underutilised, but with the XP rate favoring grouping so much and travel still being relatively limited...

"you are a mid level 20s Rogue on progression"

There, I said it. Now what happens?

(Sorry, couldn't resist :)

Just went back to my druid on Phinigel, only level 20, and I was surprised Kunark zones mostly empty. In the day levelling in zones like LOIO, FM, Overthere, etc. was a blast. Tons of mobs, lots of room for kiting (as a druid), decent drops, etc.

Re Luclin, Velks is a superb zone for fast-paced groups once you reach the right level. Non-stop killing as long as your puller doesn't wipe y'all with an overly greedy pull!

Early 40s weapon pondering...

And wondering about some old (2003) wisdom:

...why do you want a faster weapon for a rogue?...faster weapon=more aggro=less BS......delay isn't important for rogues... damage however is a big deal...a 14 damage poker is awesome...and i can only think of a few weapons with better damage for a rogue then this... and only 1 of them is not no drop...

Stone Bladed Edge
Rabid Chokidai Fang
Sebilite Croaking Dirk

Seem to be the chat channel suggestions for tradable.

Blood Point doesn't proc yet, but seems like it would be nice with the healing augs from vendor for solo messing around?

Serrated Bone Dirk I am wondering what dexterity number is needed to get some consistent proccing? In contrast, Journeyman's Walking Stick seems to proc a lot more (though really only situational use when caster heavy group lacks debuffer).

Wavecrasher seems like another situational toy.

Then there is the melee augments: Anatase aka DoT , Wulfenite aka DD with stun (resisted a lot it seems) , Erythrite aka HoT , and Dioptase aka direct heal .

I'm thinking level 30 & 40 DD on my grouping daggers, but am interested in what combos (including weapons available Luclin era on progression I have not listed) and philosphy other more experienced rogues and melee would suggest.
