How well do you know EQ?Follow

I was thinking today that while I have been playing EQ since December of 2001, I really don't know all that much about this game. I estimate that I am likely playing with between 5-10% knowledge of everything available to me. Up until Gates of Discord, I basically played only two chars, a Paladin and a Necromancer. I raided often.

GoD killed our guild and I ended up morphing to my current style of play. I love the 1-70 part of the game so I have many, many chars in those levels. I have many heroic chars, but again my knowledge of the intricacies is very limited. I simply don't need the in depth knowledge considering my style of play.

I love questing and have done almost all of the quests lower level chars can do. I don't consider this as knowledge of the game as these quests are very well detailed here on ZAM so I have no need to memorize the mechanics.

Inspired by the level 1 twink thread here, I have started to see how far I can get a level 1 Gnome Warrior with only tradeable items. I have no chars over 87 and with my very old laptop, I do not have an option to box. So far I have the little guy at 614HP. I am currently camping the Hierophant's Cloak in Old Sebilis, but having no luck at all spawning it. I have spawned multiple other named, but not the hierophant. I don't know if there is a particular trick to this spawn, but will keep trying. This mission was what caused me to realize how much of EQ I didn't know about. I have had to research each slot to try for drops. Every day my knowledge creeps higher.

Are you using a Blade of Carnage? Helmet of Rallos Zek? old school tradeable jewelry?

I have not yet acquired the Blade of Carnage nor the Helm of Ralos Zek. I am using old school rings on fingers and Orc Fang earrings. I will link his Magelo profile when Magelo is working for me. Something seems to be fudged over there at the moment.

I like your question.

I have played a lot of the 1-65 content with some really odd gaps.

-I had a bad experience in a raiding guild pretty early on and haven't done much of that outside of epic 1.0 stuff with casual guilds. My job/schedule tends to make that not viable either. I've gone back and done a fair bit of hunting in some of the Velious raid zones though as I noticed places like Sleeper's Tomb needed updates here at Allakhazam. Soloing a grey raid zone certainly not the same experience though vs. doing it in era.
-I actually had done very little of classic outside of a few zones until Vulak TLP. Some parts of it I love (Najena) but overall it's not my favourite. First 5 years I played nearly all my characters were dark elves and my guild(s) and server really stuck to Luclin-PoP and current content... I saw Norrath through a narrow lens as a result.
-I have done tons of newbie and home city quests
-I have done a lot of Kunark, Luclin, LoY and TSS. When LdoN was new I played a lot. Odd bits of Velious and PoP, dribbles of OoW and not so much of other stuff. Luclin up to 55ish is probably my most complete older expac for actually using the zones and quests. TSS would be my most done and favourite expac now, and I don't particularly like Drakkin.

Class wise I have most classes multiple times in the 20-55 range. Only a few 60+.

-I spent most of my first years in game playing a chanter main (badly in hindsight) and ranger alt. Though I actually spent my first few months in this game as a human rogue.
-My middle years were spent doing a self-progression bst in kunark/luclin only and an enchanter in a progression guild to 55 (even got epic).
-Shortly after TSS launch I came back and decided to play necro for the first time. My highest played main is 77 necro. I have a heroic necro... a TLP necro in the 70s on the dead Vulak server and I am a slow...slow... leveling necro again on Phinny. Aside from the Lunar Mutants druid thing and a few months of "Banner the SK" I haven't really played other classes much the last few years. It's funny as I love alts. My current playtime and server choice really hurts the alt thing though.

I've actually been more active following the Allakhazam boards over the last 10 years than my consistency in EQ itself. For example I played a WoW monk to max level (not hard at all...) while still paying attention here. I probably have a good slice of obscure knowledge from here that doesn't directly match up with my in-game play experiences. For example early era paladin quests are kind of cool... and I have never done them nor played a paladin past level 5.

If this game was entirely "knowable" I'd be long gone. What I LOVE about it, or one of the things, is its breadth and depth of content. And the fact that many aspects are NOT well-documented. Like for example I'm working on HUnter achievements right now and I found a named I needed up on track in Fear Itself. It appeared to be in the basement of one of the pyramids. The pyramid had a plainly visible side entrance to the upper floors but no obvious way to get to the basement. I could "see" thru the walls, see the basement and even see my named (!) but no idea HOW to get there. I asked in chat and got some supporting comments but no specific advice. This site and others I Googled had some info on the zone and the mobs but nothing specific. Then I stumbled on a vaguish comment about a fake wall in an online post about a DIFFERENT mob who also spawns in the basement of that pyramid. Sure enough that led me to discover a fake wall that would otherwise be darn hard to find, short of testing every wall in the entire pyramid.

If this has been a WoW named, there'd be 10 sources with detailed walk-thrus, including screenshots, about how to get to that named. The difference is EQ has more content and is far less-documented. That can be a bad thing for new players but frankly it's one of the features that keeps ME coming back.
