Hey all,

Seems EQ was able to revive my old account. I logged on and didn't even begin to know how to play this character. Any suggestions on where to spend all the AA points they refunded me? Also seem that my merchant character wasn't high enough of a level to recover so I am broke. Seems I should go somewhere to practice my songs and reset my hot keys for soloing and groups. Any ideas of a forgiving zone that I could get some experience without risking myself and others too badly. I don't even remember how I setup my macro keys so going to be doing a lot of stopping of game play to play with the interface until I get it all sorted out. Ok, last question, I did play with a Merc on a newdie free account before I knew this account could be revived. I had money to pay the Merc. At my new level with no PP can I hire a Merc of not? Any suggestions on how I should proceed will be appreciated. Thanks

Read the returning player thread. It's a bit cluttered, but lots of good stuff in there. Also see the other sticky with the useful threads.

As an old account you may have some loyalty built up. See Alerynril in plane of knowledge as bag of platinum can be a good leg up.

As an old account you probably also have veteran's rewards. Yellow text upon logging in will prompt you. Remember that only a select number of characters get the veteran's awards (a bunch of silly to useful bonus AA is a way of thinking of them).

Also check /claim as you may have useful things sitting there. If you don't... you will if you buy an expac.

As well, press V to bring up your AA window. If you are subscribing to the game you can "autogrant enable" which will catch you up in all the AA the devs think you should have earned at a given level. Makes sense to do this before spending an unspent surplus of AA (in my mind) even if you decide to shut it off and grind out future AA the hard way.

Welcome back.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a bunch of AA points to spend. I think they refunded some for AA's they deleted while I was gone (plus some loyalty bonus AA's). I wish my memory was better but it has been close to 10 years. I started reading the returning player thread but some of the stuff seems out dated and I figured I would play a bit and then see what questions it would answer once they came up. The thing I noticed that is most difficult is not only trying to remember what I used to do with the character but also then how to do it. You have to learn what hot keys you need then how to make the hot keys. Not to mention setting up a new interface since that was on a now dead computer. So a big learning curve upon returning after so long. Especially since it seems that they have added more new zones then even used to exist back when I played. It seems the world at least has doubled. So a lot to learn with no real foundation. Especially since I don't want to get into a group at level 70 and pull newbie stunts through ignorance and wipe the group.
I am learning a lot by searching the forums here and am getting closer to feeling comfortable about jumping in. An idea I will pass along to anyone in the same situation I am in, I started a bard before I was told about reviving my old account. I have learned a heck of a lot playing him through the tutorial section and doing the quests there and I would recommend that. It was fun, challenging and a safe way to get your feet wet. The whole new Merc situation totally changes the way I remember playing and should be experience before the higher levels. I am using the low level toon to work out all the new interfaces and hot keys I want to try. Then I will just have to play with all the old songs on my level 70 that I seem to have forgotten I had (I had forgotten how many there are, and at one point I knew what they all did).
I was on the Morrelle Thule (sp?) server which I guess they merged and my guy is now on the Erollisi Marr - The Nameless server. Again I appreciate the advice, especially about waiting to spend the AA's. Also would appreciate any other suggestions that anyone that has done what I am doing has. Thanks
