Daily Skill Caps - Do They Still Exist?Follow

I seem to recall waaaaaay back in the day, skills had a daily cap. Like, say, Fishing, if you'd never picked up a pole and at lvl 65 decided to skill up, you couldn't hit the 200 hard cap because at some point, you'd receive a message "you have advanced this skill as far as you can for the day" (or something very similar at any rate).

Is that still in effect? And, yes, I know about level caps on skills, I'm talking about how much you can skill up in a day on things like Fishing.

Likewise. The only artificial cap I've ever known of was having to zone after receiving five points in a language skill. I don't know if that even still applies these days.

I swear I remember reading that that bug was fixed some years ago.

Back in like, 2004-6, I could swear I remember fishing on the South Qeynos docks and getting a message "you can no longer advance this skill for the day" or something similar.

The reason I ask, I'm certain I've hit this, just, without the warning message. Over 300 casts and I've not moved from 110 to 111 in fishing -- at 220 tried zoning and then zoning back with no joy. Logged out and giving it 24 hours. If I throw my line tomorrow and get a skill up, I'm going with a phantom soft cap. :-)

For the record, I'm above the level cap on skill so that's not it.

I am 100% certain that you can go from 0-100 skill in a language in one sitting without zoning. I do it all the time as I have a language fetish.

I've never heard of that either. I can confirm that this does not exist today. I skilled up brewing (cause that's apparently a requirement for paladins) to like 250 in just a couple hours a few weeks back. Also, several months ago, I was trying (in vain as it turns out) to get the combat skill achievements up, and ran around whacking undead in HoS with my fist, and had no problem maxing that skill (like 400 points or so) over a not so long period of time. So if there is a daily skill cap, it's set so high as to be meaningless.

I doubt there is any such thing today. I've maxed out many skills from 1 to max in one play session, and that's always less than a day.

Didn't exist in 2000-2002 timeframe, either (when I leveled up my main). I think it's people's way of rationalizing the frustrating randomness of the RNG.

I have never heard of (or seen) daily caps on anything in EQ. Maybe you are confusing it with another game?

Exactly what I thought as I was reading through the thread. What game though...?

Well, I guess it's RNG fickleness -- 300 casts, logged out until tonight, logged in, hit 30 skill ups in an hour and now nothing more.

Anyway, appears I WAS confusing games -- LOTRO had (been forever since I played don't know if it's stil the case now) a cap:

"There is a ~10-level-per-day cap, with an apparent max level of 200. The cap appears to reset about midnight Eastern (-4 GMT). There should be many more fish types to be added to the charts, along with titles, maybe even deeds, once people get high enough levels."

I've been playing EQ since 2004, never heard of a daily limit. Only limit on skill ups was due to character class level not going up.
