I infer he's talking about the decline in customer service since Daybreak took over EQ and since ZAM decided to move to the West Coast. Just guessing, now!

That plus the way people power level, box and refuse to play with others. I hear and see it daily people moaning, complaining no one else to play with. So go out ruin another game (S) you pricks. I wish it upon EQ to be shut down....

Yes this is scary..

My servers Bazaar trader population is maybe ~20% lower than usual, but it always did slow during summer holidays.

However, the amount of people in general chat during weeknights has dropped off even more noticeably, sometimes below 100 on the server when as recently as one or two years ago it would have averaged 200-250 during that time of the night...

I fear that when those at max level run out of new content then I feel EQ may suffer even more unless the upcoming campaigns offer enough content to keep them happy and busy..

Then what about our raid community. They need enough new and challenging content also otherwise they will suffer also..question is will the campaigns release give them enough raid content or any at all?

When I started playing EQ in 2005, some were saying the same thing about the demise of EQ. But this time it seems like a real downward spiral...

Part of this is due to the two new progression servers. A lot of regulars have for the time being switched to playing there and that cut backs population on the existing servers. Progression server popularity wanes gradually, and accelerating, as time passes.

One big mistake they did make with TDS is to make most of the new zones locked. This blocks casual players from accessing interesting new content. Even though I did the work to progress for all my toons I'd vote for unlocking them all now, as this would encourage casuals to play more, and maybe even buy TDS belatedly. They usually unlock old content anyway but typically they wait for the next xpac to be released. I'd recommend unlocking NOW.

The consensus being the drop in population on regular servers is due to migration to the new prog. servers?

That makes sense.

Yes, Progression servers makes sense for the drop off in general on my server...completely forgot about them and how popular they are when they are new and fresh..like now.

Yeah, that makes total sense. I also agree that once the "new and shiny" wears off, most of those folks will go back to playing their regular characters on their regular servers most of the time.

This is exactly where a lot of people have gone to. The minimum amount of people I see in the popular zones (Felwithe, Faydark, Neriak, Guk, etc.) is anywhere from 50-150 people, and this is during the day time. I agree, that with some, the nostalgia will eventually wear off and they'll move back to their respective live servers, but there are a lot of people who missed the "old school" way of EQ. Not that I'm saying it's 100% accurate in how the game was when it first started, but I can say from personal experience, it's been really fun playing on Ragefire, especially when your main toon(s) are finished with pretty much everything.

Even though I'm a "classicist" (LOVE the original game) I haven't stepped onto either new progression server. Several reasons. One, I'm committed to completing some long quest arcs in TDS and still working on those. Two, I just don't have the time to burn to add yet more gameplay to my leisure time schedule. Three, I know it won't come close to being the "real" classic experience, particularly compared to P1999, where I already leveled 2 toons to 50. Four, I'm a tad concerned about the horror stories I've heard about armies of boxed mages dominating entire zones. Five, The same pattern that eventually pushed me off P1999: I work hard to level up but find as I get close to 50 that there's nothing much left to experience or acquire, and the only way to continue to advance is to commit a crazy amount of time to endless repetitive raids of Plane of Fear, Plane of Hate and named dragon hunts. Been there, done that. Plane of Fear is exciting the first time a level-suitable guild breaks in. Maybe even the second and third time. But by the fourth time, it's just a tedious grind clearing high-HP trash mobs for hours.

You can go back and visit classic EQ but you can't ever "really go back" to experience that sense of wonder arising from your first time playing EQ back in the day. We all just know too much now! Smiley: frown
