Real Estate... looking for good ideas!Follow

Okay, I'm looking for some advice here. I've been hesitant to invest a lot of time and effort learning the ins and outs of EQ real estate. It seems to be needlessly complex, particularly with respect to how to store items in houses, closets, vaults... man, real confusing. I do have a 3-room home and a modest guild hall. Basically I threw a lot of crap in the house, just about filled it up and now find myself carrying around 36-slot bags all full of more crap, and wishing I could put it all somewhere. I say "crap" affectionately: It's mostly gear I wanna eventually sell in the Bazaar or tradeskill items I'm reluctant to dump on a vendor because it seems every new xpac turns a formerly almost useless mat into great demand again. Why sell a mat for 1cp when it might be of use some day, eh?

Long story short: I want some tips on how best to maximize storage in real estate. I heard someone in chat one time mention how she had multiple housesfor storing her mat inventories for each of the 8 tradeskills. But then I read in the wiki here you can only own 3 plots, and presumably you need one plot per house. (Right? I don't see any plots with multiple houses.) On the other hand, I could buy a guild plot which would enable all my alts in the same guild to each have a home and if I set permissions correctly (I think) any member could access any of the home's inventories. Effectively allowing me to have a "home" for each tradeskill into which my alts could dump loot out of their bags into the right "tradeskill home".

I'm also looking for a way to inventory items stored in houses, closets and vaults. I don't think "/outputfile inventory" includes that info. How about stuff stored in the guild hall's guild bank? Any way to generate a list of that other than by hand?

/outputfile realestate

The above command evidently generates a text file of everything in your real estate.

/outputfile guild just gives you a list of guild members presently online.

/outputfile guildbank works for stuff in the guild bank as long as you're IN the guild hall.

check the houses before you buy....property too...they both have different storage size...then buy the biggest crate from the bartender in the neighborhood round house in neighborhoods. You are right you can have up to three pieces of property with houses but you can also have a guild hall too... with bank and ton of storage...but they cost real $$$. Also just have the property and the one house.. do not decorate that takes up storage space.

Okay, Vinney please explain the crates to me. I tried one out but it seems after placing it, it just consumes the storage space for the whole property. In other words my houses have a limit of 500 items, including 300 of "any type". Whether I put an item into the house or the crate it consumes 1 of those limits. So what's the advantage?

It's also ironic that an alt can ultimately hold more items than an entire house---heck, than 3 houses! 3 houses can store effectively 900 of "any" items. There are 38 bag slots in an alt, counting toon, bank and shared bank. If you invest in big capacity bags, especially the 40-slot bags for trade skill items, you can easily break 1000 items on one toon. Plus it's so much more convenient to have 1000 items on one alt than 900 items spread across 3 properties.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems it's better to use an alt than real estate, if your interest is pure storage. Or am I missing something?

First off to tell how much room you have you right click an item placed on property or house or house itself and under items tab show the amount: The categories are Yard xxx/ 120…house xxx/500***Vault xxx/300 and Crate: xxx / 500 ( the numbers are the highest for each category)
The difference on items is if it is “Placeable” or not (any type of item):
Property: Storage Capacity max is 120 spaces. Others are 105 and 90
Houses: Storage Capacity here you have to read under “Lore” tab example “can hold 500 items. 300 of which can be any type of items”. Is best. And of course daily upkeep is higher. You want the one with the highest “any type of item”
Crate: Estate Storage Crate is largest = 500 items (Placeable items)
Anytime you place an item it takes up space ….including crate = 1space. Anything put in crate does not add to house or property but has to be a “Placeable” item. Anything placed in Shed (property) or Closet (House) still takes up an individual space in said area. Remember anything that is not marked Placeable can only be put in storage. Closet in House and will take up a space from the House.
Now example my crafting house. Outside is decorated because property can only hold Placeable items. House inside has the crafting tables and the rest is storage all crafting material falls under “Any Type of item) and shows marked in item tab when I right click an item.
Stacked items count as one space and if you notice a craft item can only be placed in closet and this takes up a space also registering on total house items. Example 277/300 vault and 289/500….if I take out an item from vault 276 the total items from house drops to 288.
So crafted items store in Closet and takes up space
Weapons (Placeable) can be stored in crate and only takes up the crate space

The difference having the crafting items on hand in same area as crafting stations.... where as an alt you have to withdraw the items needed and bring to crafting area.

So basically you can store 500+500=1000 items in a real estate property, as long as 500 of them are placeable so they can go into the crate?

Problem is most people won't own 500 placeable items...

Actually only 300 non-placeable items ....Property 120 (placeable) / crate 500 (placeable) / House 500 but (300 non-placeable can be stored in closet)

It's the placeable/non-placeable bits that can be a pain. Best practice is that anything that is placeable, you should place inside your house. I like to decorate my walls with the horde of various weapons I've used over my character's life. I also put a couple tables down (cause it looks better than tossing stuff on the floor, and place other random but placeable stuff there. Everything else goes into the closet (and you should always get the max closet size for just this reason). So old armor sets and other random stuff that I want to hang on to gets tossed into the closet.

Of course, my primary objective is old stuff that I just don't want to toss. If you're looking for trade skill storage, that's somewhat a different issue. Probably is much better to just create an alt and buy tradeskill storage bags and go that route IMO.

Oh. Let me also add that having the vet award summon banker makes managing your stuff in/out of your property vastly easier.

Here's what I did.

First, get the "loyalty point" houses if you have the points (I assume Sippin does :). You can have three houses per char, and I have 9 houses total, spread across three chars. I also have a guild hall, that I mainly just use for the bank.

I have all my alts in my guild, and after every session, I put all tradeskill related items in the guild bank. The awesome part about doing this is, everything in there autostacks as you add it. Once in a while, I pull out full stacks to store in a house.

For the houses, I put only certain types of items in each house (defiant gear, tradeskill items, spells that droppped, foraged items, etc).
/outputfile realestate works well, but with this system, I rarely need even that.

And, yes, for the items you want to store, which are placeable, place them, to save other slots for items which can't be placed (which is most things, unfortunately). If you just want to save time, and don't care about looks, you don't even have to "place" the items. Open the house item interface window, and highlight the item in your bag, then click the "shed" icon in the house window. The item goes right there, and is considered "placed", and you don't have to worry about playing with the mouse to place it and store it.

Tat

PS - forgot to mention, have every char that you actively play carry at least one 32-slot (or bigger) tradeskill mats bag. Makes life much easier.

Why the loyalty point houses? From what I see they have the same storage capacity as the biggest houses available for plat.

Mostly cause I don't have anything else to spend loyalty points on. Bad assumption on my part that other long-time players are in the same situation.

I'm usually bumping against the loyalty cap as well (cause I usually forget about it for months at a time). Unless you're one of those players who constantly makes new alts, there's generally not enough stuff to spend loyalty on. When I remember, I'll often just grab a bag of plat or something, just to keep off the cap. So for players like me, anything I can use loyalty for is worth doing.

I get it and I have the same problem. Usually I blow it on bags of plat. So I see the idea of buying houses that way. Too bad they don't sell BIG BAGS for loyalty crowns!

I would totally love this. But I suppose they don't want to cut into their station cash business.

I use the Golden Tickets to get Glowing Black Drums for alts. Keep a set of the tradeable Lore items from the Casino to block you from winning them, and it only takes a few tries.

Anyone remember when they first introduced bags of plat it was a LOT more, more like 200kpp per bag. It was a GREAT deal. Then Sony announced they were going to nerf the amount in the next patch. I spent down all my loyalty crowns on all my toons and stockpiled something like 8milpp. A friend of mine procrastinated, never got around to doing it before the patch and really regretted it afterwards.

I also remember them being a lot cheaper at the loyalty vendor at first. Somewhere around 110 Crowns for the Bag Of Platinum, compared to over 430 crowns nowadays.

Those were the days..
