There's one coment from them on EQ's Facebook page confirming this problem and that they're "working" on it.

More details and an ETA for uptime would be nice!

Great start for daybreak. Maybe it should be called gamebreak. Maybe a disgruntled employee wiped the servers and the next time you can log in everyone is a level one. and glooming deep is in a constant state of crashing. hehe. who knows?

Hope it's up soon ... wife has a hair appointment and I was looking forward to some nice relaxing play time ;-/ Been down now for about three hours, I was logging in as it crashed.

All SOE/DGC games are down for me. The launchpads keep crashing too assuming they're trying to connect to the server and fail. :((

Start of a 3 day weekend......Think they should of really thought about ramifications with mass layoffs of old employees....I guess I have life all wrong....you have to be stupid and not apply logic to be an executive or president both in corporations and politics.

Servers down due to DDoS attacks

SOE is undergoing Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS) attacks by Lizard Squad. For the time being all servers are down and are expected to be for several hours.
#8 Feb 14 2015 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
SOE.com seems to be back up ... as are the EQ message boards but I still cannot log in for some reason. Does it just take longer to bring the games back online or? I don't know much about DDoS attacks (if that's what happened) but would that account for the websites being back online yet the games still being offline?

Thanks in advance.

Trying Shadowrun online ... Let me know how DoAC is these days? Haven't played that in ages.

Not surprising that Lizard Squad would make a DDOS attack on Valentines Day. A day that celebrates romantic relationships must be especially frustrating to that group.

Hmmmm Layoff a lot of people and suddenly game unusable.

It could be an odd coincidence but I think there is a strong possiblitty that someone wasn't too happy about losing his or her job has given a parting gift.

I had some odd crash issues starting Thursday night, I expect this may be a trend for a while. To all the EQ people that have been recently released... You will be greatly missed and your efforts to make EQ awesome are greatly appreciated.

I had no crash issues prior to this. In fact I've been running several accounts smoothly as silk. Reports are of a DDOS attack and that could come from several sources. Can't discount disgruntled employees, however, especially as they'd have the insider knowledge to really exploit it.

Yeah, soe.com WAS back, but now it's gone again.

Managed to log into the game by bypassing the launchpad, and things were okay for maybe 10 minutes, but now vendor windows won't come up, merc won't follow, can't zone...seems like the ddos kids have worked around whatever workaround soe came up with.

And it is a ddos:

I was doing some research into DDoS (a lot of you probably already know who Lizard Squad is). I didn't. Well, I was reading some comments on Finest Squad's Facebook page and someone commented that Lizard Squad was planning an attack on PSN on the 14th of this month (posted 4 days ago), asking them to help. So...why can't this **** be prevented?

These instructions will create a shortcut that will open EverQuest bypassing the patcher and taking you straight to the EverQuest login screen. Also you can input anything for a username login which will automatically get inserted for you as your Username at the EverQuest login screen:

First browse to your EverQuest directory.
Right click "eqgame.exe".
Create a shortcut of "eqgame.exe" and send it to your Desktop
The icon will be named "Shortcut to eqgame". Rename your shortcut to EverQuest or if you want something more specific: "EverQuest - NoPatch \\ Toon1". (the \\Toon1 will be addressed shortly)
Right click shortcut, and select "Properties"
In the properties window, you should be on the Shortcut tab. In the target field you should see the path that leads to your eqgame.ext within quotations. Click on this field and add the following text after eqgame.exe: patchme /login:YourUserName
Click Apply, click OK.

As an example, your target field text should now resemble something like this:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme /login:Toon1UserName

Note: The /login: information is completely optional. If you want to manually enter in your Usernames then just don't enter the login info. ["C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme] is perfectly fine as well and will work fine.
Note2: Replace Toon1UserName with anything that you want to appear within the username field of the EverQuest login screen. Reminder, for EQ the username is not case sensitive but the password is.
Note3: If your target field text includes quotations like the example above, be sure to add the patchme /login: information outside of those quotations. My version of Windows 7 does not have the path in quotations, if this is the case then disregard this, you do not need quotations.
Note4: If you want to use only one shortcut and operate different accounts from that one shortcut after you exit EQ it will always remember the last Username you used to login. If your main character is Toon1 and the last time you exited EQ you had entered the infor for Toon3, the next time you start up EQ from that shortcut it will automatically have the username of Toon3 entered if you did not use /login:Toon1UserName.

Using this method, you can set up instances of EQ specific to a single character. Having two shortcuts labeled \\ Toon1 and \\ Toon 2 along with their usernames entered into the target field all you would have to do now is enter their passwords and login. This really cuts down time for people who play multiple accounts or numerous instances. Having multiple shorcuts will help you manage different accounts.

Alternatively, if you do not want to have a bunch of EQ shortcuts cluttering up your desktop, have the login target name be just a single character like " , ". Now you only have to backspace one character and type in your desired Username instead of the entire usename itself. Try it out!

Because until the attack is happening, there's no way to know from what IP addresses the malicious traffic will be coming.

Even if you get logged in (which I did), the lag is too severe making the game unplayable atm.

No, it's not disgruntled, ex-employees, it's Lizard Squad.

Game not playable at the moment.

No, it's not disgruntled, ex-employees, it's Lizard Squad.

And if you will miss the people that continued to try to ruin this game, as in the likes of David Georgeson that allowed the creation of EQ2 and now an abortion that will never be released in EQ Next, you are sorely misinformed. Maybe Daybreak will allow EQ to flourish and stop trying to be it's own competitor.

BTW, get a haircut David. Try to look like an adult on your next job interview. And I wouldn't mention that EQN thing.
