I have an old crappy laptop. I had turned off all the spell and weapon particle effects long ago. Recently my Bard got epic 1.0. Try as I might, I cannot find the settings to turn the effect back on. does anyone know a link that explains all the the effects settings and what they actually do?

Hello,
The particle settings are accessible in game in the options > display tab section..

This is an an old link but the info should be still relevant re the particle settings : http://www.monkly-business.net/forums/showthread.php?t=33925

Note that sometimes you need to zone after making a change to see it take effect. Player tab - Near Clip = Near - Density: Low - On for: Me

To see fires and other environmental lights / particles (helps with certain events, raids, and quests): Env tab - Near Clip = Near - Density: High

These two by themselves keep spell effects off if you have them off, but still show My epic and environmental particles.

What does near clip mean? what is the difference when you set it to near, medium, far, or farthest?

The closer to zero% you set the clip plane, the less the game will draw things at a distance. At 0% the distance is about a 50 foot radius around you. At 100% it draws everything in the zone (in theory).

The closer to zero you set it, the less your computer has to work. Use a closer clip plane if your GPU is old.
