Killed Talendor for the third time last night, still no Torn, burnt book. I once spent 10+ hours in Howling Stones trying for a Brittle Bone for the Iksar Necromancer Skullcap quest. My entire EQ "career" has been like this. A friend has had just the opposite luck. She came into Howling Stones that time and got the piece on her first kill. Two weeks ago, killed Talendor and got the book for her Pally. Insert primal scream here! Smiley: lol And it goes on and on.

I have been stalking Narra Tanith for more than a year now. My Druid has long outgrown the Silverish Scimitar I have been looking for, but it's now an obsession.... I have yet to see her even once.

Anyone else have this kind of luck or lack thereof?

Yes, I've been there on the Talendor and Severilous hunt for the book, it took me weeks to finaly get one, I even went as far as making a team of level 50s to kill Nagafen, which didn't get to kill him because it turns out that there are people who perma camp him for some reason. But anyways my luck on this game is weird, sometimes I get items I'm looking for immediately, other times I take weeks or a month to get something to drop, and then there are moments where I get so desperate that I just throw platinum at people for an MQ.

One of my luckiest moments was when one of those MQs went wrong. I was doing the warrior epic and I needed to get a spiroc wingblade, which I was very unhappy about, since I have an irrational fear of death touching mobs. So I just said "***** it I'm going to MQ it!", and started asking in general chat for it.

Eventually a Druid took my offer and we headed off to Freeport to do the turn in. Once we arrived she turned in her part, but ended up getting the reward, some jerk must've haded in one piece and not the other earlier that day. I payed her since she lost her item, and then we went our separate ways. A few moments later she sends me a tell saying that her husband is farming Plane of Sky. I told her that I didn't have any keys, but she told me that they could summon me through a bonfire. I had no idea of what that was at the time, and I'm still not sure of how fellowships work, but I went with it anyway. and they summoned me up to spiroc island and got my blade.

After that they asked me if they could help with anything else, and I told them that I needed a ball of everliving golem from another DTing mob in the Plane of Fear, and they said "ok let's check out if the golems are up!", and they were! even the shade of Cazic Thule was up. The first golem we killed dropped the ball and a Soul Leech which went to a shadowknight friend of theirs who was also doing his epic 1.0, he ended up joining us after that, and I just ended up going through the whole warrior epic with these really nice people I just met, and to top it off some guy offered to power level my warrior and bring me up to speed with the game, but I had to decline since I'm living the silver life.

So yeah, luck just goes up and down!

Generally I have cycles. However, the bad luck seems predominant. I had 3 0s out of 1000 in one day, but never more than 1 1000 in a day or probably even a week.

More often it seems like it things you really want or need that get the bad luck, and stuff that doesn't really matter to you, but may be nice none-the-less are when you have the good luck. It's like the game knows when you want / need something, and screws with you. You don't need it but some one else may, and you'll get very lucky.

EDIT: To be clear, I did win one of the 0's 'cause no one else rolled, so it wasn't completely bad luck.

Sunday I decided to get the OoW quest breastplate for my warrior since it has a still-useful-after-all-these-years clicky. The quest requires a drop from the boss of Anguish (which I've had in the bank for years) plus 3 Ceremonial Dragorn Candles, which drop in Anguish or MPG. Not wanting to run a group and set up a raid, I ran my warrior to MPG since at 100 he should be able to waste the zone. The candles drop off a few Dragorn mobs. Allakhazam originally classified them as "common" drops... then to Uncommon after some posters complained "common" was unrealistic.

Second dragorn I kill I get a candle. So I'm thinking this ain't bad I'll be in and out of here in 15 minutes.

3 hours and 100s of dragorn corpses later... no more candles.

While I know logically it's all in the random number generator, superstitiously I do sometimes believe that the devs program this on purpose to get you "hooked" into a multi-hour camp because of the quick reward that started the session. Same principle why they sweeten the drop rates when they introduce a new zone, to get players to go there, and then reduce it once the zone becomes populated.

Try camping Heratius Grolden in Tenebrous Mountains, part of the Loyalist Shield quest. I got the task in 2004, since then I've camped the castle dozens of times with nothing to show for it. Also, it's placeholder is on a different timer than the mobs around it, 2 or 3 times longer adding ennui to the suffering. On the bright side, if and when it ever does spawn, the vampyre ashes are a guaranteed drop unlike those dang epic dragons.
