What are you going to Heroic?Follow

Heroic is coming for real (insta 85's) and the window for the one-time freebie isn't that long. I'm a gold sub at the moment (not sure if they put restrictions on the freebie based on accounts?) but I am not going to waste the "gift" as it were... though I'm not sure I will play it either.

I know I will make mine on a regular server (not FV or zek).

I'm partly tempted to boost Banner (my 27 troll Sk that I was roleplaying a while back) but then again the fun of him was everything being silly hard in old content. So that might be losing the plot...

One thought is recreating my necro that I moved to FV (now level 77). I know how to play it reasonably well. Most of the other classes I have played a lot I have no interest in picking back up (enchanter) or I have high enough characters (beast, ranger) that it would be a waste of the freebie. My FV necro has gear I can never replace (even as an 85), but I just haven't "felt it" in respects to playing on FV in a couple of years.

My brother was trying to talk me into going rogue (which I have played to 30-55 half a dozen times, but never for any sustained depth of play) but I'm not convinced he'll actually come back and play for more than two logins, so that seems like a potential waste... since I don't see solo/molo rogue at 85 being the most fun/viable for me.

Monk (not frog) keeps crossing my mind too. I have played that a bit up to 65, but would have a lot to learn.

Erudite shadowknight.

I'd suggest possibly the rarest combo in the game.

Although here's a case where kicking off at level 85 is a detriment. I've never played an erudite from level 1 and it would be interesting to experience the noobie world for an evil erudite. I guess I could always start off at level 1 and then elect to boost to 85 using the Heroic option once I get tired of leveling. If they allow it to work that way.

I'd probably heroic a pure melee class, either warrior or monk.

I have a warrior level 80...a monk at level 71 a bst at level 74... so i dont think i need a new tank etc... however I have never leveled a pure caster class.... I have a cleric/chanter in there 60's but I never leveled a mage or necro or wizard...so I am going to go with one of those.

Froglok Warrior or Paladin...already have a frog rogue and wiz...I would think one of those would be the rarest of combo's....Smiley: sly

Someone posting from test has said that it does allow the existing character boost (sorry, forget where I read that to cite source).

Female of certain combos (especially if you discount baz mules) has to be the rarest... Erudite Sk is most likely #1, Froglok Sk, Rogue, Necro, Vah Shir Rogue, Dwarf Rogue. I see more female trolls and ogres nowadays than I ever did in the past though. I've rolled quite a few female Iksars so they don't seem rare to me... maybe they are too though.

I remember trying to research "rare combos" before... rogue, paladin got mentioned a lot. Possibly because they are not ideal in traditional/typical box setups and didn't solo great in the past. I feel that bards are getting rare outside of the dedicated raider set.

Edit: Yen is just trying to get me to boost-85 a froglok on Cazic Thule server... that's how I read this Smiley: sly

Not gold, and don't plan on being again for some time, as I started on test and rather liking it there. Played more there the last month or so than the last 2+ years on live servers, and was Gold for over a year of that 2 years. I think it's restricted to Gold, but if not, I may choose something on a live server. Just not sure, as most of my toons are 70+ that I enjoy playing, and even a few I don't enjoy as mains, like my Cleric box.

Maybe a bard, since I got lots of 40s or lower bards, and really like playing them, but tend to use them for traders, since they get run speed so low to avoid getting perma-stuck in a PoK / bind boot out of the Bazaar. PoK at least you can find a SoW most times. Booted to an empty bind spot is a pita, and if it happens to be Kelethin Soulbinder, even worse being up on the platforms and a long way from the bank, or lift, or PoK book (relatively speaking).

Magician maybe. They don't kite, and they seem awesome, I just never could get into grinding one the few times I've started one.

/shrug I don't know. In a schultzy voice, "I know nothing!"

Finally I can roll the pocket Ranger I always wanted to compliment my main crew but could never find the time commitment to actually do.

Now its just to learn the class in isolation so I don't embarrass myself grouping him later on.Smiley: grin

I think Halfling rangers are pretty rare too. Halfling is a popular race and ranger is a popular class, no doubt, but they added rangers as a playable class for haflings years later and you just don't see many of them. It's purely anecdotal but I just did a /who all in game for erudite sk's and for Halfling rangers and both came up the same: zero. By contrast, ogre sks and wood elf rangers ran off the chat window "too many to be displayed."

It would be interesting to do a statistical analysis of all race/class combos using /who all on various servers at various times. While it wouldn't be absolutely definitive, because of anonymous and role-playing toons, I think a big enough sample size would provide solid and accurate results. Might want to try to avoid the Bazaar since I wouldn't want to count mules in this analysis but then you can't use /who all and you'd have to run around to a selection of zones to get your sample. More work, for sure.

As far as I know that would be the only way to do such an analysis, short of seeing if Sony would be kind enough to access their records and provide totals.

Now gender would be much harder to determine. The /who command doesn't screen on gender so you'd have to do a supplemental analysis visiting those same zones and taking a visual head count.

I'm going to plan to do all this work after I retire and have a lot more free time in about 20 years.

PS

"OFFLINE ACCESS", interesting how many of those come up. I just did a who all for high elf paladins and got 17, but 16 of those are level 1 or 2 "OFFLINE ACCESS", which of course means Bazaar mules. And the 17th was a level 85 paladin who was also IN the Bazaar. LOL. It's 810am eastern time here on FV so probably NOT a good time to be doing such analysis.

Believe it or not, I have Erudite SK on Stromm...erm...Luclin now. She even has a GM granted title, Defender of Love, which, I thought rather amusing considering the class/race...

Not a bad combo, not a great combo. It's like she does a little bit of everything, but none of it well.

I have no idea what I'm going to make. BL is just such a natural fit for me that other classes feel awkward, especially parent classes, so, odds are I'll go hybrid but not sure what class.

Anyone who remembers the old Aude Sapere may well remember Inlee, my female Erudite SK, who was my main. She got up to level 72? 73? before I quit the game for a long while. I did enjoy playing someone so unique and took the time to get both my Greenmist and the one clicky Erudite SK-only sword off Nortlav in the Hole. Erudites have terrible starting stats for a melee though, being crippled in Stamina, Strength and Agility (base 65!).

I have a halfling ranger too, though she only got to level 42 or so. Never even got to use her Tolan's bracer I camped for so long.

Anyway, if I was doing a heroic on a second account, I'd probably go enchanter just for the pocket buffs. On my main account, I have no idea. Maybe my beastlord? I've never gotten one past out of the 30-40's when the pet falls behind in levels.

Man, totally forgot about a ranger and a chanter...the buffs would be sooo cool to have....and never got a ranger past like 10 cause they were boring to me, but could see how they rock later ( like a lot of classes )....

I think the free level 85s will be great for the game, and I personally will roll one on each of my accounts (and will be returning after a year away, so kudos to Sony).

The LOL part comes in where, on my three accounts, my highest chars are level 87, 85, and 85. So the new heroics will be the same level as my mains!

And that's for chars rolled in 2000, 2002, and 2006! Lord, I'm slow :)

Aye. I had a heckuva time distributing her starting stats to make her worthwhile -- of course, that was, like you, back in the day before the tutorial etc.

Total blast to play, rarely fizzled, but she just didn't do anything well or good -- tanking, off-tanking, etc all just mediocre and that's NOT what's needed in a knight class.

The good news is that at HIGH level starting stats are all utterly and completely irrelevant.

It would be rather cool for a raiding guild's main tank to be a female erudite shadowknight! Talk about your "Equal Opportunity" employers!!

Well using Magello EQ looking at each race and class combo.. the lowest class/race combos are Gnome Paladins with only 160... followed by Haflings Paladins at 169 and then Euridite Paladins at 183...... Then... we go...Human Rogue at 226/Froglok Rogue at 244 and Froglok Necro at 247..

So Using this as a possible average we can probablly conclude that in the game these race/class combos are the rarest... Female versions being even more rare with some.

Yeah I thought about using Magelo. But that database is absolutely not a good sample. So many players don't make Magelo profiles, for obvious reasons. Magelo might give you an excellent relative population of raiders and really "serious" players---and I use "serious" here cautiously since I'm sure MANY dedicated and otherwise quite committed players don't bother to do Magelo, nor want to spend the extra money for the service.

I have no idea why Sony wouldn't provide the stats, other than the usual corporate inertia and lack of desire to start devoting employee time and costs to satisfying the first of a potentially endless series of customer inquiries of this sort.

A Magelo sampling would only be reliable if one could make the case that players who raid generally "roll" the same class/race/gender as non-raiders and I don't see how that case could be made convincingly. While some players end up raiding with a toon they originally created for casual fun, many raiders design toons expressedly to max out their raid potential and that would skew any such general analysis.

My stats background from college is starting to show, alas...

I have to agree. If there was a way to filter characters logged into zones (not baz) over say the last 6 month period, that would give a decent picture. I'll start a different thread here to attempt to get the Allakhazam's skewed view on it. Smiley: wink

Its like a Census... its not meant to be 100% accurate.. it just takes a small portion of the population and postulates what the average would be and then gives a number. I would say its going to be as accurate a model you can get with the SOE player site down and never coming back.

Well, technically it's NOT like a census. It's "like" a random sampling except it's not really random since it only samples EQ players who visit allakhazam AND who voluntary provide the requested info. That's not random since the sample has selection criteria which probably skew the results.

A census is actually NOT a random sampling at all. A census ideally IS an attempt to count every single member of the population. Sure, if the pop is big enough it never succeeds but it tries.

Not to get too academic here but I minored in statistics for my math degree and we should be precise about such things! :)

We had neighbors who moved from Kentucky to Boston for about a year. By the time the year was up and they were heading back home, we could just barely start understanding their "English" pretty consistently. I'm sure they thought the same thing about our English. LOL. They were sure the politest people we ever met. I kinda miss being called "sir" every other sentence! :)
