What would your insta 85 char be?Follow

I've been thinking about what class I would choose when/if this becomes available in EQ. My first thoughts were to try a class that I have never played before, but then had second thoughts. A clueless 85? That would be me in some classes. I have never played a Monk, Bard, Druid or Berserker. Could I create an 85 version, then a new version to run through early levels to learn the class. Not a good idea realistically, as where would one stop the lower version. You certainly wouldn't have learned the 85 game.

Create a class you are familiar with? What's the point? I would find it boring. So what to do? In another thread, I mentioned I have several 65 raid gear equipped toons. I think in the end I will level these and thus will have learned the class at the appropriate levels.

Mileage will vary. In EQII you can instaboost existing characters up as well...

My brother is talking about boosting a ranger to 85 as he likes the class, has fiddled with it several times but never taken it past 75. He refuses to boost any other class he already has over 60 since he could just play that character (but keep in mind none of his old characters approach the gear/skills/level/AA it seems the boost will have). So I could see him changing his stance. He also thinks casters are easier to skill up so less attractive to him.

I haven't given much thought. I know I won't make a druid though! (got two languishing at 55 already lol).

I'll have to think about it. Maybe something I never played (monk, bard) or maybe something I played but not to a high level (mage, chanter, warrior.) We'll see when the time comes.

I'd just make a warrior out of cheapness/lazyness, just because I don't want to buy a ton of spells and memorize them all. And I'd probably just use him to mess around the old world.

As a BL, Mage would be my friend -- be nice to have my own personal pet toy vending machine.

I would make a Mage... as I have worked very hard on mY warrior and do not want to cheat him. But I will make a Mage and or 2.. that will help with AA grinding and getting gear.

Probably my ShadowKnight. I have an 83 mage (my highest toon) only about 1200aa though. Rest of my toons are under 80. I have 4 silver accounts so if its one toon on each account then who knows.

I don't think I would take advantage of this at all. I have several 70+ chars that I would rather push to 85 than create a new class that I am not familiar with. Besides, my EQ time these days is pretty sparse.

EDIT: Very sparse indeed. I just cancelled my gold account. I may be around a bit when the account drops to silver, but RL at the moment is dropping bombs of the nuclear variety on me non stop.

I wouldn't use the feature either. Places like crypt of dalnir are very fun at small levels. The grind 65 to 75 is also a woot.

Back around GoD era... when I was still doing a lot in places like Dulak to get my alts spells and levels, I ran into a guild of all frogloks. 5 individuals, none boxed. They took pity on my dark elf cleric and we had a great afternoon. They had clearly played together alot, and I was completely unnecessary (one of them was a cleric). They were doing a bit of the Mith Marr roleplay if I recall correctly (cleansing pirates and such) and were just a fun bunch.

I'd forgotten about that afternoon until Yenwangweh's comment. Funny the bits of EQ that lurk in the depths of memory.

When my son was young he had several friends who played EQ with him and sometimes they'd all make the same toon and go around noobie zones "swarming" mobs. I remember watching them one time in Field of Bone and thinking that every Sarnak in the zone was going to boogie into Warslik Woods after seeing a pack of iksar monks, all looking the same, swarming every wandering Sarnak they came across!

We did something similar on Vallon...our guild all made human monks out of Freeport and just mobbed everything in sight. we did like 48 hours straight ( well, cept when we fell asleep on keyboards...Smiley: sly ) and even ran into Nek to try to pk ( which, with human vision back in the day, was rough) Ran to BB ( well, took the boat ) and pk'd there....was a total blast..

hmmm, maybe when the mutants get together again we could do this...only with level 85's.... Smiley: sly Smiley: sly Smiley: sly Smiley: sly Smiley: sly

Here is a list of mine won't be Bard, Cleric, Enchanter: debating on Beast Lord, have one but the pet is lacking in it's tanking

ability compared to mage pet. I can haste myself, hate pet, give pet level 100 pet gear, weapons and slow mob down whenever it

does land and pet can barely handle it. I do the same thing on mage at same level and it's pet far outranks the mobs keeps agro

and does not need to be healed as much. Enchanter is not for me because just not lol, Cleric no need with merc, and Bard takes

more work, time, skill than I have or willing to invest in it. Leaves me with the question not sure what my instant level 85 toon would

be if I am given the opportunity. I have a level 88 necromancer, 77 Ranger which both solo pretty well. My mage is 68 seems to

solo well. Not the Warrior type to much down time, depend on to much gear, pally is great vs undead also depend on a lot of gear,

shadow knight is good but also depends on a lot of gear if going to fight or tank current content. Monk is ok but to really do

anything needs a group and makes not the best tank even though some try lol. Shaman have good heals, dots, slows which are all

plus, Berserker decap need I say more :), Rogue, Hide, Sneak, Assassinate, Escape :):) Wizard nuke summons die nuke summons

die repeat lol. Choices, Choices, Choices, Choices why LOL just give me God mode.

BLs mix it up with their warder -- typically I melee with my warder behind the mob for a variety of reasons. If you're trying to pet cleric with a BL, you're missing half the fun and all the action. They're really not coded to play as a traditional pet class.

That is a good concept only problem is getting an add if I am on one mob and pet is on other, usually pet dies and then I am now

fighting two mobs or if pet does survive then merc is out of mana.

Just like raiding/grouping. Stay on the target of the main tank -- at earlier game play, it's easy to let warder offtank, but based on what I've read, new content isn't so friendly to that; which, is typical with any newer content. Ergo, get your warder on your mob or move to its mob, whichever is tactically optimal, burn it down and move on. We've got a tonne of tricks up our sleeves for managing an add or two through AA and spells, but really, as always with BLs, we don't excel at taking out even con or mobs just below us, but the light blue or dark blue a couple levels below us we can mow through.

BL isn't for everyone as there's limited ways to play them that makes them optimal and that optimal isn't to everyone's tastes.

I will most likely make a berserker since they have decapitation: hopefully it will come along with at least 1000 or 1500 aa that way I can get some decent gear see some of the current mobs, content.
