Got my new computer, all ready to play...but as I try to download Everquest it says I cannot connect to direct x and as a result after I download the game I get the d3x9_30.dll error...

Anyone have an idea why I cannot download the direct x runtime download. I am on windows 7 and it says I have direct x 11 updated?

Any help would be helpful...I did the search of the error on here and it lead me to the link for the runtime, but it won't let me download it...

thanks in advance.

According to the EQ Forums, you want to have DX9 installed.

According to this, DX 10/11 isn't backwards compatible with 9 so just having DX 11 won't do it for you.

I have no direct experience here, just pasting what I found.

The fix is simple as I have had to do it on all three of my computers for EQ, two with dx10 and one with an older dx9 version. I expect that the same procedure will work for DX11.

Just download the " d3dx9_30.dll" file alone... from the Microsoft site or DLL-files.com (the latter site worked for me) and move/extract that one file to your Everquest folder.

There is no need to download or change/use to an older dx9 driver version when playing EQ though that would also work also.

The game only searches for that dll file to enable the video card to EQ, no matter which newer version of DX you are running. As said above, most of the newer versions of Direct X driver s/ware did not come with that backdated dll file included with it.

Good luck.

Alot of the DirectX packages include other non-microsoft software, and still won't necessarily include the d3dx9_30.dll. I found a good archive of 9 somewhere that included _24 to _43 versions of d3dx9, and just copied the file to all the EQ directories I needed. DLL-files used to work, but haven't tried it for a long time. If you do use any untrusted source, always scan the files for viri / spyware before using / installing.

None of the old direct from Microsoft links work any more, and if they do, they redirect to a newer version that doesn't include the _30 file.

Placing the file in the EQ directory, then backing it up will keep a copy for future needs / crashes.

Did you get it to work Yenwangweh?

I rolled a new monk today in honor of your former corpses all over the moon. I even left one (corpse) in the tunnel to Paineel (there was a razorback fish there... red con and I thought... I can do it! I didn't...).

Then I left one in the Warrens, right by the zone in as well. It's funny, I've levelled other classes into the 40s without a single death and this monk had 2 in the first 2 hours.
