I am considering a six month membership only because it is cheaper than paying every month and I fear if they close eq down all the money for a twelve month membership would go along with it.

My question is do I recieve more station cash or loyalty points for six or twelve month membership or are they the same.

As far as I know its still 500 Station Cash per month for a gold account with a "monthly recurring subscription" only, and a maximum of 120 Loyalty Tokens per week while subscribed as a gold account..

The velocity of loyalty tokens would decline if the gold status of the account is interrupted but would gradually go back up to 120 per week after you resub the account as gold.

Good luck.

I also think they would have to issue partial refunds for extended subs (6mo, 12mo) if Sony shut down EQ with such subs outstanding. They'd probably try to offer swap out deals for surviving Sony game subs, but this would have to be optional.

Otherwise even if they did not you could complain to your credit card company about not receiving the entirety of what you paid for and get a refund there.

If they havent closed EQ down back in what 05? when WoW came out and EQ lost how many subs I seriously doubt they will close b/c of EQnext or something. The are going to ride this donkey till it drops.

It's a sample size of one but, when City of Heroes folded, outstanding subscriptions were given refunds rather than being forced to accept credit for other NCSoft games.

In truth I think there'd be legal consequences to NOT issuing refunds. While a company the size of Sony could ignore the legal threats of one irate customer I think some eager ambulance-chaser somewhere would see class action lawsuit potential in Sony burning thousands of subscribers as they fold their tents.

Actually I don't even see a chance of it happening. These companies can be cutthroat but I doubt they'd do something so blatantly offensive and in violation of credit card processing rules as well as probably laws against fraud.

So WHAT ME WORRY? Nah...Smiley: clown

True imo,
I started EQ in 2005 and the game was supposedly on its death bed as WOW was in full swing and there was a noticeable drop off in players during those years. But it survived quite well, despite the lower population. I'd even be bold enough to say that I find there is a slow but steady influx of returning players and F2P/Silver coming into the game the last few years, while veterans always quit the habit for real life reasons etc.

I do not worry about EQ closing down at all...and feel that other SOE games would bite the dust before EQ.

No doubt, I'll be riding this donkey till the end also.

Considering Eqmac is just now about to shut down and they haven't had more than a handful of subscribers for several years. I figure with EQ as long as people continue to buy SC, pay subscriptions, and play they will keep the servers up. Before the game would shut down I figure you will see a message about no longer adding content to the game.

Eqmac went over a decade locked at POP. I think it shuts down Nov 18th?

They could stop developing EQ now and probably still have 3-5 of the existing servers with decent pops 5 years from now... probably tens years to dwindle to a single server. EQmac absolutely showed that a single server can live on fumes for 10 years. So that's 20 more years if they gave up today.

If they have the foresight to launch a progression cycle (rumoured that this spring is next prog server) and/or tackle the emu people by offering a locked server (open to silver with the purchase of a $5 unlocker) they would have a steady flow of playerbase there. By merging/turning the "done" progression server into a regular live server at the right point (either a population/activity ratio or just a few expacs back of current) they would slightly prop up live pops as some would stay vs. the others that would redo progression on a new offering.

Cant extrapolate from EQMac. Yeah they kept it going for years with minimal maintenance but they still had the other servers to generate income for overall maintenance. You can be sure that if they stopped issuing expansions and then stopped supporting the regular game it would NOT take as many years as EQMac survived before we'd see the end of EQ.

I doubt an emu server would be a big profit-maker much as I'd like to see one. The people who developed the emu servers "of which we don't speak here" <cough> <cough> invested huge amounts of uncompensated time to revive the old code and models to REALLY emulate the original 1999-2000 EQ experience. This is not close to what Sony does with its progression servers. Yeah, they're still fun and a nice "blast from the past" but it's not the original past by any means.

Ultimately we can kick this around all we want for fun but nobody knows when the end of EQ will come. But it's naïve to think EQNext isn't likely to hasten it. Somehow I just don't see an EQ1/EQ2 co-existence being extended to yet a third incarnation of the world of Norrath.

I agree with you, but I personally figure and hope that we have at least another 2 or 3 years before the possibility of ending EQ becomes something more real. It's part of why I've started playing again, I often get a little bored with the game, but I love it, and will miss it when it is inevitably gone. I just could never get into the other MMOs I play/have played like EVE(never again) and WoW(probably starting to play again in the new year) like I have with EQ.

I've heard the "EQ is dead.. or will be in 2 years" bit for so many years... I think the first time that started was back when DAOC was launched. Now most people don't even know what DAOC stands for and EQ is still going strong.

I don't think you have to worry one bit about losing money on a long term subscription.
