I have a 72 ranger that now I am killing in Ocean view hills, which is the level 75 hotspot. I must of killed 50 mobs by now yet merc has 22% of an AA is this normal ? I say soe needs to hurry up with a double exp weekend because sure would help. I would buy a shared exp potion but it is quite expensive and just to use it for merc and me I think is a waste.

I have noticed as well if I put my exp on normal my merc gains no AA so I have to have it on AA for him to gain any, so guess I have to put 50% AA and 50% normal exp. I have logged out of the game twice and ran two through patches yet still the same results.

How is it at 100% aa xp?

I don't have CoTF so I can't check, but I haven't run a partial AAxp since they changed AAxp a few years back. All on or all off for me (anything else seems spooky as far as predictable results).

There isn't that many merc AA to buy (in the grand scope of the game), and it's one of the only features of the xpac that seems to apply to those under level 90-100, so I wouldn't be surprised if what you are experiencing is "working as intended".

It's probably like Leader AA's are... very slow advancement. You gotta set it and forget it and someday you'll notice you've earned a few.

Yeah hate to split exp 4 ways one normal, one aa, one leadership and with merc. I guess if ever have the miracle of a group that would help.

Don't expect merc AAs to be gained at the same speed as player AAs. Players have the 4000% xp modifier thanks to SOE recognizing that there are 10000 AAs per class.

Well the next double station cash day, I will buy a station card from walmart since it has a bonus with it. A matter fact might just buy three or four cards then used the shared exp potion. I will get the potion wait until double exp then use the shard exp potion on top of that and see how merc aa go then.

XP potions do not affect your Merc. Your AA % setting does not affect your Merc. Merc AA is just really slow.

Merc experience is gained using the experience penalty that they were already taking from the group, instead of just being wasted it now goes towards AA for them. Merc AA seems to be gained faster at lower levels. I two box and use two mercs at all times. My Merc on my 85 Mage got 2 AA's several hours before my Merc on my 90 Bard.

I doubt that's because lower levels gain faster, but because lower levels get a larger relative share of exp in a group. Your 85 mage presumably also gained more bubbles of exp during that time period than your 90 bard. So that's normal expected behavior, I'd think.

I can attest that merc exp is "slow", but as a couple people have pointed out, there aren't nearly so many abilities to buy, so slow isn't a problem.

The daily hotzone quests seem to give good merc xp - and of course they are good player xp too. You might want to try and do those as often as you can, and you can request more than one at a time and complete them together on the same timer. Use "/taskt" to check your timer (only one of the hotzone quests will ever show up btw). At 100 I do the 85, 90 and alternate and get about half a merc AA as well as 15 AA for me. They are easy to do, and well worth the effort. (Unfortunately some of the lower level ones are in zones that take a little longer to get to.)

I actually made a new mage and it is level 46 and merc has 5 aa toon is just one week old: so therefore merc does gain exp faster at lower levels so once I hit 51 going to focus on all the aa I can for awhile and buy the merc ones I can. I will just have to suffer through with my ranger when it relates to his merc gaining aa, I might just try shroud form and see what happens with it and merc aa.

How many levels did your new mage gain in the course of your merc gaining 5 AAs? How many levels will a character gain starting at say level 85 in the time it takes that characters merc to gain 5 AAs? I guess I should have been more clear that I was taking "faster/slower" as a relative concept. Lower level characters gain levels faster than higher level characters because they are able to kill higher relative level mobs faster. Obviously, their mercs will therefore gain AAs faster. But, it's because the characters are gaining a larger relative amount of exp over time.

By the same logic mercs level faster at lower levels too. Somewhat meaningless statement though.

yeah I need to try the shroud thing see how that works out. in one week mage was level 2 now 46 and merc has 5 1/2 aa so making new toon is just the solution for gaining merc aa. I would do the same on my ranger but I don't have to grind to level 72 800 aa and all the gear over again. i will just make it through with mage plus the way they can solo is incredible now I just need a pet focus item, for my level and snare wold be nice as well.
