Level 1-5

Arising from the discussion to try a Luclin content based, no defiant alt party, I decided a thread sharing some suggestions/experiences in the content might be helpful --especially since this is content longterm players may have skipped, and anyone else might not have done for years (post-tutorial for sure).

Shar Vahl is your home-city hub. If you are a Vah Shir you have race/class specific newbie armor you can do. There's also tradeskill quests for most of the trades (no one has ever solved the baking one apparently... might not be fully implemented).

The "pit" around Shar Vahl (don't zone out, you go down the side of the bridge towards Shadeweavers, you see "recruits" standing there) is one of the best newbie levelling spots in the game (indoor zone xp boost I think, tons of easy mobs on fast respawns for sure). The scorpions can poison, and the north side of the pit is a bit harder.

Grimling skeletons can drop cloth armor and the usual rusty weapons and such. Cash loot is very limited in this area. By focusing on the mobs that have quest rewards (many of which are sellable such as the padded armor) you can gain guard faction (might not be useful, but oh well) and earn some coin. Since we are using defiant gear as vendor trash, we have a higher-than-era rate of coin accumulation anyways.

Now, most of us aren't playing Vah Shir, but there is still quest options within the city, that use drops from the pit:

Silk Collection uses shadeling silk . Note: the silks are also great for lowbie tailoring.

Dharr's Lure uses 4x shell of a scorpion and nets you an earring you can apparently put in range as well.

This quest using whiptail scorpions gets you random pieces of padded armor . Not great, but good for the era/level.

The beetle stew quest uses 4x rhino beetle claw . I did this quest in the past and got random armor... others report weapons. Lately, (so far) all I have seen is the coin.

another quest from the cook involves giving him 4x worm meat .

Killing the named scorpion Tailfang let's you quest Scorpialis which is pretty nice for those that can acutally use it.

Apparently, you can assist the button girl as well --but I have never done this one.

Note: except button girl, I have done all the quests above in the past. There is a couple I haven't finished lately. Also, there are several quests doable at level 1 in Shadeweavers, but I figured I would save that for a level 6-10 post if I get that far.

Anyone wanting to join us, we are presently dabbling with this on Cazic Thule server, guildtag is <Lunar Mutant Rights Now>.

edit: added the worm meat quest

edit 2: revised the title to 1-25. We need a new thread for the next bracket!

It's been a real long time, but I think part of the Rogue quest line requires baking. will check my Rogue later.

Level 5-10

The natural progression from the Shar Vahl pit is Shadeweaver's Thicket . This zone gets progressively harder as you move west of the city entrance area. The newb yard where all the npc are is fine for strong level 2-4 players. The first real camps of bandits are good towards level 7-9, you'll want to be 10+ if taking on the camps of aliens. However, there is variance among the mob types (example the greyhopper mobs of some types are level 2, others are 10).

Quests using Shadeweavers worth doing*:

Friendship Ring Quest involves picking up groundspawn payala x16. Doable at level 1.

Champion of the Vah Shir ...seem to need faction to start this

Darkened Jawbone *

pick up garbage for a free bag

Ghulam armor * --looks like a lot of needed drops for this armor set

interesting clubs * --drops sound rare

saurek scales for armor *

Talisman of the flame for this neck item *

*is quests I or someone in our Luclin guild hasn't finished yet (so might not be newer posts on it here on alla)

The other side of Shar Vahl is Hollowshade Moor and while there is some lowbie stuff right near the city entrance, it's not as forgiving here. But, if you head straight south there is a handy entrance into Paludal Caverns (more about that below). My druid went this way at level 7, but I could cast camo (invis) on myself.

Paludal Caverns was loved? as a fast levelling spot. It can still work that way, for now let's just talk about level 5-10 going fast in there: If you go in the Hollowshade entrance you have the perfect little cave for a level 10-12 character (depending on class/strength to solo for great xp). In the past I used to temperance and skinspikes here at level 5ish to gain levels fast... or you could just use a tank merc level 5-12. Some of the loot is even worth gold so not bad if playing semi-oldschool. ---I mention this here as it is a fast catch-up spot for anyone wanting to join our little experiment a bit later.

Levels 10-25

I will just overview straight xp and some notes on the zones here. None of us doing our little Luclin slow/hard-play experiment have gotten into this content to judge questing opportunities. Some of these zones have minimal to offer that way anyways.

This is the level range you really start to get options in Luclin for what you do. If you are working from Shar Vahl and not using PoK... then travel becomes your limiting factor depending on your patience and skills (i.e., invis and runspeed buffs help).

Shadeweavers Thicket you can still use for most of this level range with decent efficiency. If you are trying to do some of those quests (listed in a previous post in this thread) you'll probably need to spend that much time to actually get all the drops.

Hollowshade Moor is more logical to enter at this point, but you'll still be limited in how far you can hunt here. There is some odd drops in this zone, even off the lower level stuff. If you are doing the Vah Shir racial armor and/or the tradeskill quests you will need drops from here.

You can get to Paludal Caverns from either of the above zones. This feels backwards to many players because we are used to going in via Nexus/Shadowhaven, but this puts you at one of the two high-level (for the zone) bandit camps. You're actually supposed to kill the muckcrawlers, mushrooms and fiends first. Fiends can be a pain if you can't root/snare and can't deal with creeping crud (the nasty dot they cast on you). Those of us playing in era gear will need to group to take the bandit camps on in the higher teens. Anyone taking a solo merc (tank) can probably eat mobs in PC 8-10 levels over their head as long as you let the merc do the work.

Paludal is your access point to Shadowhaven which at some point likely becomes your bind point (at least melee types). From Shadowhaven you have the Nexus which by design is the crossroads of the entire lunar experience. Then you have a choice... do you use the spires to visit old world locations? Also, both Shadowhaven and Nexus connect to the Bazaar.

From the Nexus, you can also get a another good levelling zone for the 15ish-25 (and a bit past) level range: Netherbian Lair . This zone always felt unfinished to me as there is lots of caves with next to nothing in them, but where there is mobs they are very social. A few decent drops in here and some funny named.

Also off Shadowhaven is Echo Caverns . If you have never been there, this is a strange zone in that it has two separate halves. The low side is a good challenge in the low 20s. In my opinion, this zone was someone's labour of love as there is some weird stuff in it (visit the mutants). The hard side of Echo is for much later in your levelling career.

Marus Seru is listed as a 15-45 zone but there is barely anything under level 20 in the zone. Tons of social mobs here, with the right group (or a merc) this can be amazing xp in pockets, at the right camps. Presently a hotzone (so probably still one at least a year from this post) this zone offers the fastest xp for this level range if you can handle it. Tailors love this zone for the hopper hides. If you leave the Recusos alone you have one less mob type to worry about aggroing as you move around. Lightcrawlers like to blind (if you have never fought them before).

Even a brand new free account could join what we are doing in Luclin... with the exception of some augment drops and eventually a cap on AAs (we are sooo far from worrying about that) I don't know that you need to be gold by any stretch.

The more the merrier!

Just started this yesterday....

At first, it was rough. No gear, super weak, but i started gathering items and killing things. Started tailoring...
This is a lot of fun, Especially since im so weak lol

I'm Valkanry, Powerful Dark elf Wizardess of Solusek ro!

I found a few things worthy of mention for casters. It all involves Tailoring.
You know the tattered hopperhide armor you can get? Its not caster useable, but it can be made into caster useable armor using tailoring.

We start with, Tattered Hopperhide Tunic and then add Xakra Kel Shirt it will become a

Shaded Hopperhide Tunic. If its combined with another Xakra Kel tunic it will become Shadowhide Armor Which looks like a fairly decent starting set of armor for a caster!! im so excited to make this!!! \^.^/

I've been doing some rudimentary tailoring myself but it's hampered by my abysmally low INT/WIS scores (65/70 respectively) for a Vah Shir berserker. I did manage to make enough tattered to fill my empty slots and a couple Tailored Large Bags and a Tailored Large Belt Pouch though which gave me a warm glow of pride.

The Shadowhide stuff looks sort of nifty and I might make an attempt at "upgrading" my tattered slots. I'll have to see how much of a pain it is to get the temp pieces to drop.

As a reminder to new people, although a perfect world would have everyone grouping together and living and loving, the reality is that our schedules are all different and someone starting now is around 12 levels off from the average member. So we encourage people to make use of mercenaries to get up into the average level band if you're worried about being left out. You're welcome not to, of course, but don't want anyone thinking they can't.

Off track a little, last night a few of us were by the Shadeweaver bandit/poacher camp and there were zero spawns. Not that Nuisances were spawned, there were just literally no mobs at the camp. It was like that earlier in the evening as well when I ran by but I just thought maybe someone ran through and cleared it. We wound up just going to Paludal Caverns so it was no great deal but it was weird. Is there a legitimate in game reason for that?

I've often thought the same thing. The first time I found EC was based off leveling advice for young Beastlords from Paul Lynch's site. I liked it so much I just started leveling all my twenty-something toons there. It's also a good spot to get comfortable with your skills and really work on training good mechanic habits. At least for me. :-D

Man I wish I could but I've only got two pcs both on Vox. I was just building up a second pc necromancer at 11th level; I would've made him on the CT server had I known beforehand. Also I know zero about guilds and groupings and such, so. Oh well. But the info in the thread, A+ as usual snailish.

As free2play I only have two pcs allowed. But I'm going to delete and restart the necromancer on CT, guess I'll have to do 11 levels over again but the environment will be different so no big deal. Is anyone else doing necromancer?

You know just a side note but I wish the male modeling didn't all look like warrior builds. It's like you can't play a non-female caster without looking like a warrior in a bad undercover disguise like in Conan the Barbarian when muscle bound Conan infiltrates the Thulsa Doom cult in his hippie robes.

Anyway alright there will be a necro dark elf named Lilyblack on the moon; I'll see if I can't figure out all this guild tag grouping mumbo jumbo.

Ooo Another Dark elf! :)

I'm not in guild yet either, but im a wizard at lvl 7. I should be able to make some caster armor soon with shade silk. Hoping to find people on and get an invite later.

Get to shar vahl and get in the pit, theres some quests for armor thats worthwhile for a caster to do.
Tons of monsters in the pit too! easy to lvl to 5 or so, slows down a bit after that. Can get crappy weapons from the grimling skeletons.
My trusty staff has served me well so far Smiley: laugh

We're doing good at catching people even if playtimes are off a bit.

Currently, if you zone into Shadeweaver's Thicket you have a good chance of catching someone. The lunar action is on Cazic Thule server (in honor of Shisu really).

I play Denth in the earlier evening est when I am on.

It's not too late to join. Our guild currently has openings for _____whatever you want to play_____.

Just remember, what we are all about is not-defiant, living on the moon. We aren't getting ready to raid Ethernere rofl.

Good news, Yesterday there was a server reset. After reset, Shadeweavers was finally back to normal.

There is also a patch today, but im pretty sure that shadeweaver's will still be back to normal. Thank goodness! Finally, theres lots of spawns and stuff running around there. It feels lively again. I'm certain it was bugged before.

Also, It would be great to get shadeweavers switched over to Shak Dratha instead of Gor Taku. Without the shak dratha, theres like no way to get any shade silk for crafting. I think it involves killing the guardsmen at the camp, I killed the gor taku ones yesterday and im hoping it switches over today. But Perhaps, the warlord must be killed to switch over the faction --- Warlord

Good news about Shadeweavers! The spawn issue was very annoying. I wanted more shadeling silks for cords for bags.

A couple of us were at or scratching 20 by the end of last night, having camped the bandits in PC. Luckily, the higher people get, the wider the leveling band and we'll hopefully have fewer instances where people are shut out due to level. I think we collected a couple bits of armor for those who need them, too. Nothing special, just the bronze brigadine stuff but better than tattered leather.

Broons, are you able to communicate in guild chat? You were mighty silent last night. Wasn't sure if that was by choice, technical issue or you were just AFK all night.

Yes, very good news about Shadeweaver's!! It looks like I'm going to be stuck there for quite a while. I'm doing the Quests and the drop rates are Abysmal. I don't know how many Poacher's Mystro has killed, but he dreams about them now. Am trying to complete Champion of the Vah Shir. Time sink? But yes!!

I also "forgot" To get Vah Shir Pottery Progression. I don't know why there is a question mark in front of the quest, but I did complete it years ago. Maybe it has become broken over the years, time will tell. I intend to start it as soon as I can get back into the game after today's patch. Still kicking myself over missing this quest. It may have saved me some plat skilling up pottery which I did to avoid failures on very difficult to obtain drops.

Game on Lunar misfits!!!!!

No, no technical difficulties. I'm pretty much just focused on getting a robe tailored up so I was just hunting shades and getting the feel of the place. Trying to get acquainted with the roads and paths, and the city itself there. Basically with the Wizard I was just getting to the "okay, now I know my way around some stomping grounds, I've got a feel for the class and how it works, I'm feeling like I've got a foundation" and now it's like I'm on the moon or something. Literally and metaphorically. Bear in mind I turn off PC names because it affects my camera view in combat so I'm not sure who is who when someone goes running by- though now I recognize Mystro when I see a shining catman swooping across the hills. And the dark elf I recognize. Because the names of the pcs are different than the board names I'm usually not sure who I'm talking to. Add to this that I'm not really the most talkative person in real life, mix in that it's difficult for me to talk and play at the same time.

Now, also as I've never really worked with any groups before, I presume my purpose here is to respond when someone says "need a necromancer/corpse spell/etc." or ? As of now I'm 10th so not sure that's going to do much for anyone.

Right now I'm looking for shade silk to tailor me up a robe but I couldn't find any Shak Dratha but one and got a silk swatch tailored up but need one more and a good tailoring result and I'll be robed up. They were so sparse I only found the one, and another which was red con and made the mistake of turning around as he was chasing me off and got whacked. And after I promised myself I wouldn't do that, but I was so focused on getting that silk I let it get in the way. I would've made it out had I not done the same stupid thing I always do- stop and turn around to see if they're still after me instead of just faceforward run to the gate.

Anyway that's pretty much the scoop.

I'm having similar issues with making a tunic/chest piece of armor at all total.

The lesser shades might drop a Xakra Kel Tunic, then i can make it into a usable tunic. Or we get the shade silk monsters spawning.
its so funny i cant get a tunic Smiley: lol

it sucks with the shaded armor though, if you fail you lose everything. I got lucky and made Shaded hopperhide gloves(they have black graphic, looks cool). Then i got another pair of Xakra kel gloves, and tried the combine to upgrade and failed. Losing everything Smiley: mad
Tried to make boots too and also failed the first combine :(. I believe the trivial is 36, and my skill is currently 30. Making templates is too expensive for skill ups, and a lot of the easy ones are trivial already. Making this armor is really tough with the rarity of the drops, so failing the combines really sucks >.<!
Nevermind getting the needle claws, but i was server first to the merchant and bought them all Smiley: laugh i still have 8 Claw needles. DId you know they get used up in the combine? grrrr

Oh man I'm dreading the moment of clicking that combine button. So far my wizard has been borderline miraculous in pulling off results when it mattered. Hopefully that carries over here. But I'm dreading it. I was decked out in the special temporary armor last night- except for the tunic which I couldn't get dropped- and it looked pretty cool. I was like "well, guess I'm never logging out" but then was disconnected *poof!*

Which reminds me. I just remembered the sewing needle. The one that took me forever to craft as wizard. I'm going to have to make one of those damn things again aren't I?

I'm just hoping for some of the shade silk dropping aliens; saw nothing but the other guys last night- almost started attacking them out of principle but didn't. I read in another thread someone saying the Shak Dratha replace the Gor Taku and vice versa, so to get one to spawn you have to kill the other- but I'm not sure if it's true and am not sure if I want to be aware of faction here or not.
