Weapon / Augment Suggestions for 60 BardFollow

#1 Sep 01 2013 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
As the title suggests, I am a soon to be 60 bard in desperate need of upgrading my weps . I am currently using a Flawed Defiant Brawl Stick and a Treantwood Staff.

What weapons are available to me (dont want to go through bazaar necessarily, only have a 4k budget) via quest or mob drop that would give me a substantial increase in damage (aside from bard epic, which I plan on getting but don't expect anytime soon).

Thanks for your guidance.

buy new defiant weapons, save your money.

just buy some a level 60 can use, they're PRETTY cheap.

I'm with Lucky at that level; Just get whatever is cheap in the bazaar, and the best is probably going to be the level 59-70 defiant weapons, although you may some slightly better twinkish ones, but usually for alot due to the tribute value on them. See slot 4 augs with a proc for a list of augs at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=125034153214545642&page=1&howmany=50#msg1250362049258415906 -- The melee vendor augs are probably still good, but the stun effect is only upto level 55. Some of the DoN ones you can start getting now work upto 65 or 70 level mobs. If you're more into hunting / questing some to save money, or spend some time on, there's many good ones, and unique for the level ones in that list. The Goru'kar Mesa lifetap one from Tremochian (sp? the named Tree) should be pretty doable by 60, although his Aura DS is pretty nasty. I've tried the rune proc aug from The Devastation or whatever zone that is in PoR a few times, but without any luck, but that's a higher level zone too, but maybe something you'll want to work on later. It's highly sought after by Pal and Shd.

If you get some others to help (Seems a bit rough to molo at 60), you might try the Sweeping the Steppes: Gnolls shared task for a few nice bane weapon choices for the level, if you're so broke, you can't afford the defiant in the bazaar, or just want something a little better DPS wise, and plan on staying in the Steppes or other places with Gnolls. See quest at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3878

Eventhough general can be annoying, it's often good to leave to up to keep an eye out for people raiding older content you can get to and looting the rot weapons. PoP and Luclin zones are great at 60, depending on the zone and where the mob is.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just get what you can easily / cheap and go with it, until 65 when a whole bunch of alternatives, including epic 1.5 become available.

And since you said dmg and not ratio, ratio of dmg / dly is what you want the highest of for melee DPS. You have 14/26 = 0.53846 and 20/36 = 0.55556. Most elaborate defiant weapons will be better. kama at level 60 = 14/19 = 0.7368 or Cutlass at 60 = 17/24 = 0.7083, both considerably better. Even the Gnollbiter from the Sweeping the Steppes: Gnolls quests is better at 16/20 = 0.80 or 16+3/20 = 19/20 = 0.95 for Gnolls, is a ton better.

There are alot more similar to the defiant.

At 65, they start breaking the 1.0 ratio.

What about the skyfire aug Yther?

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=49963 albeit is a rare drop, but he might get some exp still there right?

And it'd be free.

Plus Rune augs cause a lot of aggro, something a bard doesn't want.

There are some cheap augmentations sold in all the old home towns. They are labeled as melee augmentations if you look for them with FIND. I think some of them do a heal proc, some do a dot, and some do a direct damage.

IF you are going to stop and get AA at a certain level, you might get value out of going for a particular weapon.

I like using Vein Sap Pearl and Vein Sap Mineral at level 65-70 on my dual-wielders. (Haven't played a 1-weapon melee in years, but would probably still lifetap aug it).

My 65 monk with Dedgerex's Flintforged Cudgel and another weapon I can't remember was insanely good with those augs. My little ranger was aiming towards the cudgel and Steel Hilted Flint Dagger (sorry not a bard option) combined with those augs.

My monk was using the combo to solo (no merc) and really saw an advantage to the lifetap procs. With a tank merc, the lifetap augs seem to provide a nice healback vs. the aggro gained from all the nasty (Fun) proccing. With the tank merc, I was far less worried about having the best ratio presently available for the level... whatever already proccing weapons I lifetap augged were good enough.

The lifetap augs are available with Dragons of Norrath crystals (ebon and radiant) which are available multiple ways including doing the missions they originally were implemented with. Only buy them in baz if super-cheap as they are not costly from the loyalty vendor in PoK.

I also agree with the advice to just use the melee procs from the vendors in home cities.

Defiant weapons haven't generally impressed me beyond being good stats providers for non melee types. If you don't want to spend $ then I suggest levelling up in The Serpent's Spine as there are lots of drops. You could also pursue quest weapons (be warned some are big timesinks) such as Axe of the Royal Guard . There is also the hero's journey questline with Conquering the Steppes which one of the rewards is Intricate Consigned Katana .

It depends on what they're doing. I meant to mention that about the stuns too. The skyfire aug is in the list. I just don't personally like skyfire 'cause of the dispelling chromadrakes. Bards might be able to stand being buffless better than I can though, and one of the epic fights is there, iirc. I only mention it, 'cause it's one of those pita to get augs, that some people like to go after.

I'm with snailish and prefer lifetaps for the most part, unless tanking or needing something special for some reason. Tend to like stuns that land, just 'cause of casters and gaters, but the hate is a pain, and I get rid of them on non-tankers as soon as the I'm fighting mobs above the stun level, if it's not an innate weapon proc.

I blame just waking up and it being early in the morning for lack luster response :P
