I'm soloing an elf wizard and I need to get one of these for a quest but it's made by players and they have to be a gnome. How can I acquire this item? Thanks in advance.

If you're Silver or Gold, then /join general and ask in there, by /general your_question or /list to see the number and use /# your_question.

If you're Bronze I don't think you can join channels other than the the newbie channel which the game auto-joins you.

You can travel to the bazaar and see if any are for sale there, but that's unlikely since it's not a highly sought after item. Even as a Bronze member you can buy from other players in the bazaar, you just can't sell.

I'm free to play (I wish I was gold but unfortunately I am also free of cash) and checked the bazaar but no quill. So I guess this means that Scratch actually did break my staff. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at that one. I suppose I'll go with laugh. Thanks for your help.

Also Yther Ore is a great name. Very ingenious.

Might try asking in the Newbie channel, or hang out in the Guild Lobby and use /ooc to ask. Sometimes people have f2p box accounts and have toons in the newbie channel sometimes. Out of Character (/ooc) in the Guild Lobby will probably be better. Most people are afk there, but the few that aren't and alot of them are tradeskillers.

It's not as good as /general with 300-400 people in it, but better than nothing.

Thanks.

I can be useful to tell us here what server you are on. Someone here may have a tinkerer who can help.

I got the Staff of Elemental Flux last night. I did not know it was a continuation of the Staff of Temperate Flux quest until I looked up what quest the gentleman above was doing that involved the Geerlok Automated Quill. A note should be made on the Staff of Temperate Flux page listing the quest for the Staff of Elemental Flux as a related quest. Might there be a third staff quest that I'm missing?

The server I'm on is called Vox. This is the first time I've played an online RPG and was just trying EQ out since it was free and a friend of mine played it back in the day and I would watch him and so I already knew a little about the game so just signed up and defaulted my way into the Gloomingdeep. Then I got a little hooked on the game (surprise surprise) and kept at it. It was about 25th level I started wishing I would've went with the Firiona Vie rpg server instead, but fate arranges otherwise.

If anyone can help me to get the Geerlock Quill that would be great, but it's really no big deal- I got a sweet serrated Defiant Dagger* off a drachnid silklurker a couple of nights ago; bear in mind I'm not trying to get someone to give me the item, but only was wondering how to complete the quest which called for the gnome-player-crafted item. It's more about me just getting information about the game, and how certain things operate in the game itself.

*side question: are weapon type augments at all usable by casters? I was going to try to jazz up this serrated dagger with augments but when I went to the melee aug vendors they said I couldn't purchase their wares which were only for melee classes. Is this universal (only melee class can weapon aug) or is it just at the vendors, and wizard can find weapon augs in the field?

Sorry, can't help with the Geerlok automated Quill. When I read about the followup staff quest, I just "requisitioned" it from my Necro. He obtained it pre 2006 when research was needed for some spells. I cannot remember how I obtained it, but it was likely from the bazaar.

No. Priests and Casters get augs also, just not from the melee augment vendors. See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1374389224301557237&post=1&replyto=1374389224301557237&p=1 which is slot 4 augs with a proc. Many of them are useable by priests / casters.

Since after several levels, most priests and casters (not all), tend to quit meleeing for the most part, they don't really go after proc augs, but prefer stat and mana augs. This is not always the case, especially if not a kiter or Root+DoTter and soloing / moloing. Here's a list of all slot 4 only augs for a Wiz 25level or lower: http://eqitems.13th-floor.org/itemsearch.php?searchtype=friendly&class=2048&race=-1&deity=-1&charlevel=25&type=11&slot=8192&attr_1=augtype&attr_cmp_1=%3D&attr_val_1=8&attr_2=-1&attr_cmp_2=%3E%3D&attr_val_2=&attr_3=-1&attr_cmp_3=%3E%3D&attr_val_3=&attr_4=-1&attr_cmp_4=%3E%3D&attr_val_4=&aug_1=-1&aug_2=-1&aug_3=-1&magic=-1&nodrop=-1&norent=-1&loregroup=-1&attuneable=-1&artifactflag=-1&submit=Search

Also, later on, at higher levels, instead of melee procs, you'll want procs that work off of casting spells rather than swinging a weapon.

And just to be clear, Silver is also Free-to-Play like Bronze but with limitations raised, like 1000 AAs instead of 250 is it for Bronze. It only costs 500 Station cash (SC) or $5.00 uS to buy 500 SC to buy Silver upgrade. Even as Bronze, if you haven't spent any SC, you should have 500 just for starting a new account.

I think the AAs and channels make it well worth the 500 SC to upgrade, if you haven't already. And the whole point was that you may have already due to your level and need for the AA cap to rise.

you could buy the items that can create the item and then ask for any high lvl tinkers around.

Dude thanks again just let me say to all, this stuff is really helpful. I'm doing my own researching as well into things; don't want to seem to be asking a deluge of questions- questions you've probably answered a thousand times before. Let me ask another quick question on weapon augments because I was doing some reading last night and started scratching my head (again).

The article I was reading was saying that to use augments, you must first find the "birdbath" sealer, open it like a sewing kit (or whatever combine container) and put the item and augment in, and seal, and this is how you do it. But I haven't done this even one time. I have simply found an augment on a drop*, went "Oh cool, augment" then I just take it out of my backpack and plugged it right into the slot and it looks to me that this works- the item stats would boost up with the augment, and it looks to me sure enough that this works and I use no augment pool station. So my augments are working, yes? Even though I didn't use the birdbath? Even when I pull an aug out of my pack, the augment text on my items that can take the aug turn yellow to let me know I can put the aug in that slot. I thought this was all clearly how it's done- but when I read about the birdbath I started thinking twice and wanted to check if I am doing this right. Suffice it to say all my augs appear to be working fine.

But there are some augs that will not go in the slot. I have some augs that won't go into a slot even though it is the slot they are made for- I get a "this will produce an unusable item" type message. I keep trying to put my Adventure's Stone aug in an item but it will never go in; also my Kiki Recipe Book I tried to aug a few times but it doesn't seem to want to take an aug (of the appropriate slot) <- maybe these are the augs that need the birdbath?

I really have no idea what any of that means. I know what the AAs are, I just figured them out last week- and I just figured out Tribute yesterday. This is how bad it really is: I just found and opened my "gifts" from when I first started my account. I am opening my starting gifts at 55th level. Got some SWEET Intricate Defiant gloves, pntaloons and boots so not complaining at all. I was actually hunting for Ornate Defiant pantaloons when I stumbled upon the /claim command and used it and was like "What is this stuff?!" had like 10 potions of adventure and 3 bottles of double XP.

Honestly it wasn't until about 45th level that I stopped destroying every augment I picked up. Because I thought they were items only useful on certain quests because that's what my experience with NO DROP items was- something dropped that is only useful if specifically being sought. Then one night I was camping and right clicking objects in my pack and noticed one of the NO DROP saying something peculiar- augmentation. And it had stats. Augmentation. I thought about it for a few seconds until the words "Oh no... " escaped my lips.

Yeah this was my original idea and that's pretty much why I came here to ask about it all. Because I was thinking, the only way I'll be able to do this is to get the items then walk around the zones shouting "any gnomes who can craft Geerlok Autos?" and I thought that surely there must be a better way and I'm going to have to just go ask on some forum before walking around shouting through zones which cannot possibly be looked on well by the other gamers. I'm pretty sure there have been occasions in the past where I pissed off some people without even knowing what I was doing so was trying to cover the bases here with this question about the Pen.

Make sure to check the aug level before you put it in a slot. An item turning yellow means that it is NOT giving you any of the stats on it due to some part of it being too high for your level. Anything you are wearing now that is yellow should have the augment removed.

You are correct that you no longer need the birdbath and can put augs in directly.

By the way; to remove an aug all you need is to have a distiller appropriate to your aug in your inventory and then click on the aug. You will get a message asking if you want to remove it.

Station Cash is a Sony currency used to buy stuff from in-game marketplaces (type /marketplace in the command line to see it). You can buy Station Cash with real Cash or turn in game cards for Station Cash or turn them in for game time (and some extra Station Cash if from specific vendors like Wal-Mart).

See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/Station_Cash for more details and links.

There are three levels of accounts. The first two, Bronze and Silver are Free-to-Play level, while the third, Gold, is a recurring monthly fee. Each level offers different things. See https://www.everquest.com/free/ for the differences and the FAQ which is linked there at https://www.everquest.com/faq

Just for creating an account (Bronze level) you get 500 Station Cash as a gift. Older accounts are grand-fathered in as Silver, but since Bronze are given 500 SC, you can use that 500 SC to buy the account wide upgrade to Silver, offering more character slots per server, more inventory slots, and all the other goodies, including ability to /join channels.

See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Items_Augmentation for details about augments. Note that the bird bath is no longer used. Reading the wiki page will explain how to do it now, as does clicking on a bird bath. The simple answer is to augment something, you put the augment on your cursor then click the appropriate aug slot on the item display then confirm you want it inserted. One of the list aug types must match the clicked aug slot type.

Kiting is technique, where you Snare the intended targets, run around, generally in a large circle, stop when you have enough time to cast a nuke, then take off again until it refreshes or you have enough time to cast a different nuke.

Maybe it was a limited time thing or linked to my other accounts via the email or something. Don't know for sure, just assumed everyone got it. All my accounts are Silver now, and only the one was Bronze and never Gold, unless it got upgraded without me knowing sometime.

It was probably a limited time thing though, as I remember it being there after a few days when I first checked.
