Returning Player - Feerott Statue Zoning in questionFollow

#1 May 24 2013 at 8:34 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all.

I am just returned after a long break. Tis good to be back.

I plan to start the HoT progression starting with the first quest where I go to Feerott Dream zone and talk to a Froglok and loot a book off a dead frog party and then return the book to the frog.;...

Question is when I click the statue in the old world Feerott where exactly in Feerott Dream will I land? Is it a safe area or am I in the middle of 17 level 80 something mobs?

After clicking the statue in the old Feerrott zone, your zi point to the new Feerrott zone is roughly the same position where the statue in old Feerrott was....

If in old Feerrott the zi would be at the west bank of the river west of Cazic Thule zone line at the extreme southern border of the map.

Good luck.

Best you invis before clicking the statue but the zi is safe unless someone brings a train.

EDIT-Mar 20th 2014 : When clicking on the Oggok Portal stone in POK (southernmost wall, portal stone east of "The Overthere" portal stone) you now have a choice to go to the low level "Feerrott" or the high level "Feerrott-Dream" version...And you will enter the zone at the POK stone in the north of either Feerrott version.

If the Feerrott Dream version: Most NPC merchants etc were moved to a safe area at the POK stone where you now zone in.

Yes, it's a relatively safe area.

Welcome back and good question! You're a cautious guy and that's fine! Being invis'd before entering any such higher-level zone is always a wise precaution. But be forewarned there are some undead zombie and ghost type critters who will see thru regular invisibility. But none of them normally lurk around the port-in spot, unless they've been trained there, which I don't see happening very often at all.

Good luck!

Well I zoned in okay but cant get to the NPC frog to get the quest. I invis'ed and ran up the river to the bridge and an undead gorilla kilt my healer Merc with 2 swats - then I engaged it and we were about even until a few of his buddies decided to help him and I got kilt too.

Is there a safe way to get to the NPC? Rupkerr is his name and this is the questlink:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5125

I would like to complete this this weekend for the double xp!

Thanks,
ZAP!

Not a guaranteed safe route especially as it is a hotzone atm (and double xp weekend at the time of this post) and many camps of mobs may be disturbed from players xping, dropping aggro on overpulls etc.

What I'd do is stack ivu and invis (if possible) and follow the river to the bridge...Just outside aggro range of the mobs in the river and moving at a steady pace if possible. At the bridge then head due west for the camp of npc's where Rupkerr is. If you overshoot the camp too much north or south , there are sometimes named, undead and or see invis mobs that you can run into.

If you cant stack ivu just use normal invis, it is more often makeable without incident and more so as you get a feel for the terrain.

Edit :Yes, If you overshoot too much north from bridge to camp, you run into the gorillas that you were attacked by. While a Lizardman camp is just south of the bridge (some mobs near the lizardman camp see thru invis iirc) so you need to clear aggro range of that lizardman camp before heading due west then keeping clear of the gorillas north of the route you take to Rupkerr.

Good luck.

As a rule ordinary invis is enough to get to the froggie quest NPC. Just invis up, head north along the west side of the river (but stay the hell OFF the river as undead mobs swim in it and WILL agro) and watch your map. When you get about 2/3 of the way north to the level of Rupkerr's camp, head diagonally west. You'll pass spiders and lizards but none see thru invis. The undead gorillas are way north so if you encounter any of them you've clearly gone off-track.

Actually I don't think anything in the southwest quadrant of the zone sees thru invis so if make a bead and run diagonally from the zone-in (crossing the river as far south as you can to avoid the undead swimmers) to Rupkerr's location you should be fine.

Running safely through dangerous zones is part of the fun and challenge of EQ but no reason you should ever be dying in this zone unless you get trained or lag out and run directly into see-invis mobs by accident.

Well I made it to Rupkerr and got the quest thanks to y'alls advice. I made it back to zone in area where I was going to hug the South zone wall and then North to the Expedition Crew. I SoE'd and Camoed and headed across the river to go around the lizard fort to the South zone wall but got aggroed by a couple of ghosts in the river and then after I tried to Vinelash snare 'em a Tae Ew Wizard started nuking me.

So with 3 mobs on me I beat feet for the HoT zone.

I am level 86 and should be able to complete this quest but heck I cant even get close to the expedition crew.

Some of the Tae Ew Lizards (or other mobs) near the Pyramids in the south see thru invis iirc.. When I did the Rupkerr's 1st quest I went to the North East area of the zone via the same bridge you pass before heading west to Rupkerr's camp. That route north of the bridge is also safer than the Pyramid area in the south imho.

This link shows the area you need to get to for Rupkerr's first quest : http://hot.eqresource.com/anexpeditiongoneawry.php

Using the bridge and heading N.East may not be the only route but it worked for me the six or seven times that I've did it on my main, alts and helping friends etc.

Hope this helps.

EDIT-Mar 20th 2014 : With the release of heroic characters, most NPC vendors etc were moved to the new safe area by the POK stone in the north of the zone.

Thanks again.

Well after reading your last post I took your advice and ran to the bridge and headed NE and found the spot. I saw a group there single pulling ghosts. I saw the frog corpses and tried to loot a few of them. I got aggro and had to fight a ghost. Man they have a trillion hit points and after 10 minutes of perilous fighting I had him down to 25% when I get aggro from another one. So I had to /root /origin - There's alot of them ghosts up there to kill and that's before you even loot the journal and have to fight off the lizard patrolman that pops.

I dunno, I really don't see how this quest can be soloed at 86. Kinda frustrating for a solo player.

You wont do it solo at 86 unless you can crowd control. Even with a merc it would be hard. However you can always ooc for a group and or help in zone.

The "solo tasks" are marked solo so that one person can request the task from the quest/taskgiver. But as indicated above, many still require a group to realistically hope to complete.

Some of the "solo tasks" (this included) are class dependent for success if solo/moloing it. While some are virtually impossible to solo no matter the class-unless uber geared.

You may need to get some help to clear the area of undead to get access to the mobs you need to loot for the journal.

Good luck.

Zap, I'm know I'm blind, but did you mention what server you are on? Info like that may induce someone to volunteer to help, if they can.

Zap, you said progression is why your doing the 1st pre task but the 3 pre-tasks are not needed by every body just the group tasks for HOT progression.
unless the goal is to beable to request the group mission and then find a group? or unless your duing the pre tasks for the dream notes.

You have been assigned the task 'An Expedition Gone Awry'.

Search the froglok corpses for proof that you have found the missing expeditionary force 0/1 (The Feerrott)

Loot a Tattered Expedition Journal from a froglok corpse (has a five minute respawn timer). If you have difficulty targetting it, use "/target a_froglok" and then "/open" their corpse.

most bodies are empty - its a / rand you need to be able to clear to keep looting for the next try.
GOOD luCK

the kill (spiders, wolves , lizardmen) quests are eaiser to find groups to get them done if your looking for faction

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5130
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5131
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5132

Faction is needed to see all the Rk2 spells levels 89 and 90 on the RK 2 spell merchant.

ZapolloKreed,

Dont know if you got through. If you didn't as yet and you rather the solo/molo playstyle vs grouping..Dont give up !

Try levelling to lvl 88 - wherever you get the best XP - before doing any tasks in Feerott while purchasing the dream fragments in the bazaar as you level. Which you use to buy rk2 spells from the merchant in Feerrott (near Rupkerr) as soon as you reach the appropriate level. Kaylynn Staerns(sp) is her name iirc. You dont need any faction till the 89 spells, as said above. So you should already have your 86 rk2 spells imo. Then at 88 with a your new ranks of key aas filled, go and do the questing in Feerrott.

I'm guessing that you are a Druid, which is a class I do not know too well but 3 levels of HOT spells,AA's,stat cap increases etc should make a difference. You could even consider purchasing a tank merc for situational use, and try a change of tactic where you do the healing and burn the mob down from the comfort of your mount while the tank takes aggro and adds his dps. As I think your low on dps if ten minute fights. Which could increase the chance for adds in that part of the task..

I dont know how well the tank mercs hold up at 86-88 or how their confidence works re adds as I only have cleric mercs, but maybe someone who has experience with them could say.

This is only if you rather do it solo w/merc.

Good luck and hope you get through.

Correction: Hope you got through.

Good advice, Hexeez, with this caveat: A non-Gold merc (A5?) might not be worth it, you'll dump most of your mana healing it. If you are Gold, and can get a J1 tank merc, that might be doable.

Obviously, a good start on healing AA's will help a lot as well.

Good luck!

Tat

Thanks Tat,

Good point, I completely overlooked the Apprentice mercs.

Took it for granted that ZapolloKreed is gold and has access to Journeyman mercs but I may be wrong indeed.
