I had this problem a few years back, couldn't find it in tech forums where I had posted it.
What do I need to do to get the maps to be available. They are showing read only in properties, I unclick it save change and exit. No maps! Have this problem on my machine which has widows xp and elnes machine which uses windows 8.

It maybe that you're not logged in as an Administrator when you make the changes. I don't remember a quick way to do it in windows, but I often make a command prompt and run it as administrator to make sure my changes stick. The other advice should work though.

Also "Maps" folder might be in a few places check (C:)/ ProgramData/EverQuest/Maps .....or ..... (C:)/ ProgramData/Sony Online Entertainmenta/Installed Games/....might have a file there? and if in both copy/paste into both.
