Ok so I'm a returning player I stoles playing just after planes of power came out. I don't think I ever made a beast lord but I am enjoying the class, I'm a ogre and so far I'm doing the hotzones and have made it to lvl 45. The thing that is bugging me is I'm in the purple gear and I want something new. Any tips for getting better gear would be appreciated! Ohh and when I get to the higher levels what weapon set should I be using? I'm 2Hand Blunt at the moment.

Gearwise its quickest to purchase the "defiant" gear for your level in the Bazaar (where it should be much cheaper than on any npc merchant). On my server it goes in the 50-250pp per piece range except the chest pieces which may sell for 200-1000+ pp range for your level defiant gear..
I have a lvl 80 Beastlord alt which was my first character in EQ and for me, duel wielding is best for overall Beast dps and holding aggro especially if you are doing a lot of the tanking. So I would max your "hand to hand" skills and "1hand blunt" with that in mind.
Nowadays, unless your plat rich you could suffice with the cheap defiant weapons until the higher levels (80+) where you would need better upgrades to advance your character. They are commonly sold dirt cheap (ie under 20 plat on my server).

They have PRESTIGE gear for lower levels? That's very surprising to me.

84 beastlord here, I was lazy and stopped training hand to hand in 30s. I just use one hand blunt. The 80 beasty is right do hand to hand and one hand blunt.
Are you wearing crude defiant armor it looks purple ish? You can buy prismatic dye in bazaar. Then click on dye button. You can change the color of your
slot, each slot takes one dye. At 60 buy https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=83971 . Kill your current pet then summon Khati Sha (60) pet. 15 pet powa !
Always buy your new pet when you can. At 65 or 66 you should be able to buy https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=83984 20 pet powa !
