Suspending a MercFollow

When I Suspend my healer merc I have just noticed that the merc's timer gets reset down to about 15 seconds or so, no matter how much time I had on the clock. Has it always been doing this? I had always assumed that the countdown on the merc hire timer froze when it was Suspended.

I've been playing without a merc lately (aggro-kiting), and unsuspending a healer from time to time for buffs, and I suddenly realised I was having to pay 30pp every single time I Unsuspended.

Hi,
Something must be wrong. As the timer stops when a merc is suspended. I would try logging out of EQ completely then reload patcher and do a complete file check and see if it solves the issue.
If not then I would either report a bug or petition as a last resort.

Good luck.

Edit: One long shot is to check the clock time and date on your computer. On one occasion my clock was incorrect and my Necro swiftdots refresh time was totally off until I corrected the issue.

OK, glad to hear it's a bug (I guess). Hopefully it will right itself next time I fire the game up.

Sadly it is not a bug.I was told it is set that way so the merc owners can not unsuspend a merc to get buffs, then suspend them...Mine has been doin this for ages

Your right,

I just logged in a character and unsuspended his merc and it had a few secs counting down...doubt its just coincidence.

Can't believe I didn't notice this......all these years lol.

It's been this way since I returned in October. I found a thread on the EQ boards about it. If you have more than 10(11, 12?) minutes left on your timer, it sets it to 15 seconds, or something like that, when you suspend.

Definitely not a bug, it's there on purpose.

Note that if you just keep the merc out, it doesn't affect you at all (except you get less XP).

PS - my take on it? Truthfully, merc fees are so low anyway, I just unsuspend for buffs, and re-suspend. 30pp per ~30 minutes (the shortest duration buff I get from my merc) is pretty much nothing. And that's in the 80s. At lower levels, it's even less.

Yeah my take on it is that if I didn't notice before it shouldn't be an issue now..

Though when I am on my SK or any melee alt that is tanking, I unsuspend and suspend mercs a lot more often to refresh the "Rampart/Armor of Vie" mitigation spells which dissapears after a set amount of damage...Sometimes every 5-6 mins or less depending on what I am doing.

Oh well, will just have to accept it as part of the cost of having cleric buffs available like a pocket cleric alt.

I checked my other accounts and it's the same there. Oh well, guess we are all resigned to this fact of life. And I guess you guys are right, it's not a huge amount of money to be laying down every so often.

Ah, Hexeez, I hadn't thought about the Vie spells wearing off from melee. I don't run into it, playing casters. Yes, that would rack up the plat costs more quickly.

If you unsuspend merc and re suspend quickly you do have timer re set. So keep it around for a while. If you have a journeyman merc and put merc on passive they will waive their fee and you wont be charged. (Usually, once in a while you get bugged and it will charge.)

Would a passive merc eat your experience, I wonder.

Yes, if the merc is in your group when you get the experience message, it takes a share of your xp.
