Everquest VS Everquest IIFollow

So i just started playing everquest whent it went F2P recently and got a silver membership and fell in love with the game again after not playing it for 8+ years. This also kind of brought back my urge to play EQ2 because that was the first MMO i actually got high level in and started doing raids/end game content in i was also in a great guild (Fires of Heavan on Permafrost). My question is what would you guys recommend sticking with eq? if i do i will probably get a gold subscription or should i go back to eq2 where i last left off working on my epic weapon in rise of kunark and just started doing Veeshans peak on my character? I am on the fence on this and really need someone elses opinion who has had a LOT of experience with both games.

I just came back to EQ1 from EQ2 as well. I got a year sub for EQ2 when they had the triple station cash weekend, so I got a year for $15. I missed the double station cash this time around since none of the Walmart's around me had any cards left, but I plan on getting a year on the next double or triple SC weekend or day.

So if you can wait you can get a year of both for very very cheap.

Play both. If i am not mistaken the station all access is $19.99 and should make both your EQ and EQ2 accounts gold.

Welcome back. I say both the previous posts have it right, since both games are a hybrid F2P model now, there is no reason you can't play both at your leisure (unless your hard drive is getting full). I played eq1 way back in the day, and in the last few years played eq2 as well.

Im sorry how does the station cash work? Are you guys telling me you were able to play EQ1 + EQ2 for a full year for $14.99-19.99 total or was it that a month?

If you buy the walmart 1500 point cards they have 500 extra SC on them making them 2000. 1 Year of gold is basically 12000SC. So if they have a triple station cash weekend one card is worth 6000. So for $30 you can get a year of eq1 or eq2. If its only double station cash you will need to drop $45

ok so basically on the next double station cash weekend go to walmart and spend $45 to get a year subscription to eq1 and eq2. Got it. Thanks.

Both games have their pros and cons. I think one of the things I always liked about EQ2 is there are plenty of quests to do that don't run you to death for a crap reward. The heritage quests were alot of fun also and just seeing stuff 500 years later is kinda neat. ITs alot more casual of a game also. I always felt like the combat and leveling system was similar to WOW maybe not quite as quick though.

Everquest was my favorite which is why I am back.

EQ2 was amazing when it first came out. The graphics were aweome as long as your CPU could handle it. The quests were many and rewards were usually always good. Heritage quests were great assuming you played some EQI and understood what most of the rewards were. Haven't actually played EQ2 for about 2 years since they got rid of the original starting cities (i.e. Qeynos). Now you start in Halas which, even though its a small thing, actually ruined the game for me for whatever reason. Nostalgia is very powerful.

Unfortunately, that is honestly a question you can only answer for yourself, as it boils down to your personal opinion of which game you prefer to play. Nothing against EQ2, but I cannot stand it. That mainly has to do with the fact that EQ2 uses the newer and (in my opinion) inferior yet prevalent paradigm in MMORPGs design that guides you through an "on the rails" type of leveling experience following breadcrumbs to the next "quest hub", etc. And that is totally and solely my *opinion* and *preference* in these type of games. By no means am I saying I'm right (in fact I am probably the outnumbered old fart!). There are numerous other nuances of original EverQuest that I just happen to prefer, too. I'm not being rude or attempting to preach my way of gaming, it's just how I like it.

Also, depending on you financial situation, as others have pointed out, buying whatever they call the "all access pass" now, and playing both of them is an option. Not to mention taking advantage of the Free - to - Play options I believe both games offer, you could dabble and experiment in both to help you decide. :-) I originally had the all access pass when I returned two years ago, but it didn't take me too long or cost too much at all to decide I wanted to play the original game excusively.

I did EQ2 when it came out in November 2004. I got server first 50 in my class and did most of the cool stuff.

Never looked back.

Starting playing EQ again though in January, and I'm addicted hardcore.

I just wanted to add my agreement here. I played the original EQ back when the level cap was 50...was proud to get my DE necro to 45th lev and worked hard to get tailor skills such that I could make 10 slot backpacks..a big deal then :) I left when I got frustrated with an issue on factions that I spent way too much time on. Played a number of others since then. It's been over 10 yrs and I decided to play around again in EQ.

I also find that all he newer MMORPG's are very just way way too easy. It's less like playing a game and more like going through many steps that are clearly layed out for you. Don't get me wrong EQ in it's original form needed to fix problems like the endless camping for less common mobs was a bad thing for sure along with a number of other things I believe they've addressed. To me however it is more of a real game with risk vs reward. Yes, I really have to think do I want to go deep in some nasty place to get that item because if I die my cost is there...I rarely die because I take the time to think it through and plan it out. All my spells aren't just automatically popped on me when I level I have to actually hunt for them. Someone else may complain about these things but to me that is a big part of an adventure game.

Mind you I could still think of a ton of things that could be improved. I have yet to find a true MMORPG that plays like desktop gaming. Many have tried.
