Excellent comments! That thing about how boss mobs would debuff your buffs in order is why Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring that dropped in WW was so in-demand. The buff it provided was minor but being insta-click made it invaluable for raiders. I remember there were raiding guilds which made owning this, or something similar (and there weren't many) a requirement to join. A friend of mine camped the goblin fort for 3 days before he got his drop because he couldn't join one of the premiere raiding guilds until he had it.
Bracer of the Hidden was another one.

Agreed about Mischief. Is there ONE player who was ever happy about THIS change? The challenge was getting TO the zone but that was FUN. There's really nothing comparable in EQ anymore. I knew players who would BIND in PoMischief and retain their bind there FOREVER just to avoid having to make that awesomely terrifying run through NToV another time! The only thing close was the Plane of Fear "break", trying to get to the North wall alive and then camp out to clear any persistent aggro.
The people who whined and got it changed were probably happy. Or, more likely, once it was changed, they just didn't go (some people just don't like to see other people have access to stuff they can't get). I remember in the middle of NToV raids, half the raid force clicking on the castle and going to PoM before we had cleared the zone ("I'm just going to bind!").

Wow now that's really cool and I never heard that before. Anyone else remember this? That would be a fun role to play. I wonder if you could spawn as Emperor Crushbone or D'Vinn and really give players a shock!
Project M That was the "event" that preceded (and helped justify) the Discord server. Because it wasn't like EQ's PvP was critically acclaimed (that was DAoC's schtick back then). If I remember right, you actually got xp for killing n00bs as a mob. You only spawned as newbie mobs though, from what I recall. Like skellies in LOIO/FoB and such.
Did you know that early in EQ's life, it was riddled with "perches"? These were spots in various zones where you could attack and kill mobs but they couldn't fight back or get to you. There was one in (old) Freeport on the crosswalk across the entrance to West FP. If you stood on the little catwalk above the entry arch, you could attack guards and they'd run back and forth until they died. I remember watching wizards nuking guards down, untouched. There was one inside the stone bridge in North Karana too. Many people used it to kill Watchman Dexlin. Since he was on a different faction from the guards (and from what I was told, occasionally dropped the boots he gave the quest for), they wouldn't assist him.
Here's something some might not know, regarding progress. In the years since defiant armor was introduced, there are mobs that are no longer nearly as frightening as they once were, even at their intended level. One that comes to mind is Queen Velazul Di'Zok. As a warrior in one of the few guilds at the time who could do Chardok Royals successfully (consistently), I remember her AE (
Flamesong of Ro) essentially requiring a zerg strat. Back then, getting well over 200 in any resist was somewhat rare and since that AE essentially subtracts 100 from your FR before the resist check is done, it was brutal. Also remember, at that time, the best tanks in the game buffed to about 7k hp (and I was not even close to being among the best tanks in the game. I was only level 54!!!). I died for my Ancient Blade (and quickly!). Nowadays, she's a pushover because her AE barely hits people in today's gear, even at her level. Another example is Trakanon. I remember much of the (non-tanks in) guild farming the Tower of Frozen Shadow for Gnomeskin armor just to have a chance against his Poison Breath. I did Trak a few days ago on my 65 wizard and saw a lot of 'You resist the Poison Breath spell!' and she's in defiant with some period pieces (Grieg range, XTC shield, etc).
