Anyone remember the cloth map that came with the original game? I had my copy pinned to the wall for months since it was the only map I had access to back then. It's long gone now. Anyone know if the map is stored on the Internet anywhere?

I seem to remember it showed a couple of zones which weren't live then and were actually never added to the game. In particular I remember a forest (or woods?) which was supposed to be located between Butcher and Faydark. I remember vaguely that the original intent was to add these zones but Verant decided to go the different route with expansion of adding entire continents. Hence, Kunark, then Velious then Luclin.

Reminds me a bit of Veksar, which the story goes, was supposed to be part of Kunark but wasn't completed in time for release. So Veksar got back-burned for years and then released afterwards as part of a patch. But these early zones have never been added to the game.

Or am I dreaming all this? ;)

You're correct about the map having areas unseen in the game (at the time). Some of them were uncreated zones and some were more just physical features in existing zones. I believe many of them have been added in through the last couple expansions.

As I recall, Veksar was supposed to be included in the Kunark release (it has an entry in the Prima guide that came out with Kunark) but it (A) had pathing issues and (B) was an underwater zone like Kedge and the developers noticed that Kedge wasn't popular. I'd bet the pathing issues related to its underwater status as well and Z-axis movement in the mobs. Anyway, it was scrapped entirely and the "new" Veksar was made from scratch.

I'm pretty darn sure some of the areas were presented as zones and have never been added. Hence I'd love to see the actual map!

It is right here on this website.

I had the map too but don't know what happened to it. The above one might be the one that came with Velious but it was the same art style as the original.

I still have my original EQ disc from 1999.

Same here. Those were some fun times trying to navigate Norrath with that crappy map. LOL!

The game was truly magical trying to run from Qeynos to Freeport as a level 9 monk with nothing but your trusty cloth map.

I don't have the original, but I have the kunark one... It's great, I'm looking at it right now and I'm noticing quite a few zones that weren't in at the time (And still aren't today) :

Antonica:
Winters Deep (Near misty thicket)
lake neruss (I think that's what it says... It's hard to read - near neriak)
"The nest" - near entrance to halas
The hatchland (Near everfrost)
The northlands (Ditto)
the deadhills (Near feerrott)
Greenblood river (Ditto)
broken skull rock
buried sea
rujarkian hills

Odus:
the grand plaeau
the vasty deep
the barren coast

faydwer:
hills of shade
ranthok's ridge
the loping plains
waywander lake
elizerain lake
dragonscale hills

kunark:
the broken teeth
lake of dismay

It's a shame they never added some of those... They all sound so cool.

Some of those ARE in today, like Loping Plains and Hills of Shade. But they sure don't have the zone connections they would have had from the cloth map!

You're right about the challenges of running from zone to zone guided just by that map! That's why EQAtlas was such a godsend at the time.

I know this is a very old thread, but in regards to the original cloth map (the one showing only Antonica, Faydwer, and Odus) that came with EQ das OG...does anyone have one that they would be willing to part with? It's the only map I don't have that I want...and it's going to look great with the prints I have by Keith Parkinson of the original EQ art, RoK, and SoV, and the cloth maps to match. If ya have one you're willing to part with, let me know. I'm more than willing to pay. I needs it for my collection. So...let me know. Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I remember buying 2 EQ DvDs back in 2004 and found the cloth maps in the boxes. I think I still have them and the player's manual... I did notice some UI changes between the game and the booklet.
