Scrached EQ CD...Follow

I had to format my hard drive and start over. I went to reinstall EQ (from the Evolution pack), but CD 1 is scratched and will die halfway through loading. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

PS - At least I have EQ loaded on another PC...no withdrawals. LOL!

copy the directory from you working PC to the recently formatted one.

You don't NEED to install off the CD...doing a straight directory copy works just fine.

Or if you have broadband you can download the patcher from SOEs mainsite and then patch the entire game, although copying the directory from your other PC would be allot faster

You can get the patcher here. Try just downloading that one file to C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest and running it. I'm guessing it would download the whole game (for a few hours) then you'll just have to put in your keys.

Cool and thank you! I'll try the copying over first and if that doesn't work, I'll go with the patcher. I wasn't sure if copying the directory over was going to work...but since it sounds like it will work, I'll go from there.

Thank you!!!

Copying the directory will work, although the first time you start up the game I would uncheck the "play automatically" bubble and click on advanced and check all the expansions and do a complete file check.

Also not sure why you would need to re-enter the keys....those are only on Sony's end. When you enter them they tie that key to your account in their records and label you as "with" that expansion. Never need the keys again after that, for anything, EXCEPT, perhaps the ONLY thing that they might be helpful for is if you have some dispute with Sony on whether you have an expansion, since no hacker would have your CD in his hand.

Just to pile on.. copying will work, I have 4 copies on various machines on my home network. Just added a new one last night, and it worked fine.

You just need to make your own shortcut to "everquest.exe".

Remember Directx9.0c and latest display drivers.

Also, if the machines do not have the exact same video card run setup (I think it will make you, actually.. last night was a match so I don't remember).

Yup, run the video card setup. You actually could delete the .ini files (which I've had to do when copying directories between machines) and just let the patcher redownload them.

You won't have to re-enter your keys as they are tied to an account, not a PC.

If you do that, you will lose all bazaar prices, ui setup, hotkeys, spell sets, and so on and so on. when I copied between two vastly different pc's, it fixed my video card and all that option stuff automagically (I know because the first thing I did was go in to fix it, and it already had new info).

That's very true and a good point. However, since he reformatted his PC and trying to install from CD, I doubt this is as much of a concern.

To be specific, you could only delete the EQDefaults.ini, and any UI_Character_Server.UI files you run across. Leaving all others will keep your bazaar prices and hotkeys/friends lists intact, if that is what you desire to do.

Just a quick update...

I copied over the directory last night and it worked like a charm. Since both computers have the same type of video card, I didn't even have to do any adjustments.

Thanks for all the help!!!
