what makes the bl a better soloist in the 55+ game over the magician?

Being able to slow the mobs, imo.

i'd have to say they really aren't better just a different approach to killing mobs

With a dead draw in the approach and ability of each class, there really is no way to tell who is the "better" soloer. Each class has its ups and downs. Master those and soloing any class is possible.

In my opinion, Slow is the most powerful spell line in the game.

That is why in the last (many) expansions most (nearly all) mobs mitigate it.. and no higher percentage slows have been added in a looooong time.

to the OP:

Can you damage the mobs directly: Mage A, Beastlord B.. heading to A+ if they can melee
Can you heal your pet: Mage A, Beastlord A
Can you heal yourself: Mage F, Beastlord A (I was told that a 70 BST with all the healing AAs and spells can actually heal more than a Druid)
Can you reduce the damage the mob does via slowing: Mage F, Beastlord B+
Mana Regen: I cannot from experience compare Mod Rods and Draw spells to BST Crack.. but BST Crack a group buff that stacks with everything.. so I am going to guess Mage C, Beastlord B-

I am unaware of any way either can split mobs besides pet pulling.. but Mages do get some Summoned only spells (like a charm.. and a mez?). But, really, how many all Summoned camps do you fight in. Ok, The Hole in places.. and where else?

So, while I believe Mages can do more DPS, their inability to slow mobs or heal themselves makes so make solo pulls end in Gate (something a BST cannot do *giggles*).

I actually have a 56 Epiced Mage (and no BST).. I like and advocate the Class. But I am not trying to solo with it, I just use it for extra DPS and to summon things and people.

bl rock for pet pulling.

they summon a low lvl pet (green con) send it, then tell it to return. then if it dies, they use the aa that keeps a pet in reserve, fully buffed, and summon it for the fight.

we actualy use ths on some raids. the new DoD trials (the ones that when you win, you get that new "aa" that is a snare ans stat reduction that get worse with each trial), the first one, we use it to split the last room. BL sends in pet, mob comes out, paladin tags it and pulls to the MT to peel it off the pally. sometimes the BL dies, but is an awesome way to split that room. (the mobs hit like freight trains).

i duo with a BL alot and he does most of the pulling. using a low lvl pet, so i woul dhave to give the BL an A here.

now i am not sure if a mage can do so as well. as they have low lvl pets too. i know a necro can tho, did it last night in the task for the lvl 69 DoD spell, task 1.

How does the BL pet pull against hard hitting mobs?

I thought (from personal experience) that if the pet dies, aggro is transferred to the pet's master. And if the mobs are hitting like freight trains, pet will probably be getting 1-2 rounded.

Just curious

for pet pulling, the rune spells are good - since they limit # of hits, not total damage. I think the high one is like three hits from any mob. generally thats enough to pet pull anything.

If you time the commands properly the pet won't get hit. I do it all the time with my SK.

yeah, i think it is just timing. cause the BL sure gets flatend fast sometimes when doing those raids, but he got the mob single!

A mage can pet pull as you described, Keyera, just as well as a beastlord.

the Calliav line-up? aye. while i don't have them (Ward, Guard, and Protection), i've duo'd with a beast who does and they're nice for keeping a green warder alive through the pull.

Ward is 1 hit/spell
Guard is 2 hit/spell
Protection is 3 hit/spell

(Alla linky)

however, good luck getting the points the Adventure Points to pick them up. anymore, even with an active guild, putting together LDoN groups is like self-dentistry--after 10 minutes, it's painful and pointless.

for the question of Beastlord AA, there's two AA--one is PoP Class, the other OoW.

first AA is Suspended Minion and has two ranks, first rank suspends warder but wipes toys and buffs. second rank keeps buffs and toys. cost: 5 AA first rank 3 AA second rank.

note: anytime you see "Loading Please Wait", or camping out, no matter what rank you have, your warder will poof.

the second AA is Persistant Minion with one rank and it keeps your warder with all buffs and toys while zoning or even camping. cost: 7 AA.

i know Mages and Necros have similar Calliav access, as well as similar AAs for pets but i don't know the AA names, costs, etc. pretty sure they're roughly the same in functionality however.

i've heard shammies also get the pet AA, but i've never stopped to confirm that one.

Technically it's 20 mins (give or take) on no rent items after you zone out. I think pets hang around for 5 mins or so. There was a bug where they would aggro you and attack up reconnect, but I think that's fixed now.

i was under the impression upon zoning/camping my pocketed warder poofed--thanks for the corrected info! i'll give it a go over the weekend and time it.

that's an interesting bug they fixed--talk about giving your /pet back key a work out! =D

Don't forget, a few months ago pets would poof upon zoning. You never used to set pets in PoK. Pet class would have to run to camp and then summon their pets and buff/equip them.

If the group had to zone, the pet was lost.

Having them poof upon camping is not NEARLY as bad as it used to be.

i started my beast after they updated pets vanishing on zoning. however, i'd been playing for a few months when they made it so pets no longer vanished on invis--there was much rejoicing. =D

and agreed, losing pet on camping isn't even an issue anymore with DoDh.

Shammies get pet hold, suspend minion and persistant minion. They don't get the Calliav line, but a HoT and good timing work pretty well.

Think my Calliv is four hits, advantage to BL on that is they get a sow on outside pet pulls, advantage necro(prolly sk too) is you can pet pull while FD and not have to be so precise about timing on pullin pet off cause I mean who cares bout wasted a bone chip or 2.

Edit--even more fun when your pet pulls off FD cause it can sure make it look like you cheatin if you get a good roll on=P

BL and Shm can sow the pet outdoors and shrew (run3) it indoors (only takes one or 2 ldons for the spell at the levels where you're talking about pet hold, etc).

Neko, check your PMs.
