Ok. Got another "What's up with that??"

Quite often, probably at least a couple of times a day, I am either zoning or camping and find myself looking at the server screen when I shouldn't be. If I camp I expect to see the screen with all my toons as it waits for me to choose who to play next. If I am zoning, I expect to end up in the zone I tried to enter. Instead, I see the server screen and when I click to play on that server I see a box come up telling me I still have a toon active in the game and I can't play more than one at a time.

This used to happen every rare once in a while, but in the last few months it is getting more and more common. So common they now have a chat room specifically to handle those of us with stuck toons. I've done the "bug report" in the game several times.

Does anyone know what the heck is behind this and do they have ANY clue what to do about it? It really sucks when I have played my main to close to the time to leave for work and then try to switch to trader, only to find what should have taken me 2 minutes turns into 15......

They have had the stuckcharacter chatroom for a long time.

Next time you start EQ do a full file scan.

Actually, you dont have a stuck character problem. You have a crash to server selcet while zoning problem. Have had this happen to me in the past and it is usually NOT an EQ problem, but something with your computer itself. Do a full file scan to be sure however. After that, I would say the problem is most likely something with memory, something with your vid card, or a windows issue. When I had this happening a lot I just reloaded Windows xp and most of the issues went away.

If there is major lag, short interuption of service form ISP, slow Computer, bad timing, or you are on a modem the game gets confused and drops you to either the server select screen or even to the character login screen. I belive your computer has to respond to a server side poll in 30-45 sec or it will mark you LD. So If you start to zone or camp just after a poll request without sending a reply you could be marked LD

I find after I switch characters and/or accounts several times this happens to me. Generally I will rerun patcher or have to anyway.

Also if I leave my trader up for several hours, then switch characters a few times, it happens. When I log off trader now, I usually reboot the game from patcher to play.

well, I don't THINK I have a memory problem.

Did a full scan while I'm waiting for patch to finish.

Also ran spybot and adaware. Don't run these regularly because EQ is the ONLY thing I do with this computer. I have another sitting beside it for all my email/web browsing/etc needs.

Also cleaned up the registry (which had way more extra crap in it than I thought would be there, but nothing malicious.

I could see it being video card (Nvidia GeForce2). Using driver version 4.5.2.3 cause the one EQ suggested I use when DoDH came out didn't work properly so I rolled back....

I agree with Dot that this may be the problem. I have had this exact same problem, on several different computers, since I started playing EQ a little over a year ago.

I think it is related to your video card and/or driver, but this is a complete guess. I only say this because I have had my driver go out and had to restart EQ (although I was actually still in-game, but could not see anything). This driver issue has only ever occured after lengthy periods with my trader logged on.

I had this happen all the time. Right when they started doing patches related to DoD (way back with the war and all the events leading up to expansion release). It got worse as DoD's release got closer. It would happen more and more often. This only happened during zoning. After I updated my NVidia drivers to the most current (September '05). It fixed this problem. It happen again after another patch and I updated to the NVidia's Oct '05 drivers. I no longer have an issue with this since then.
