Morning all,

Having recently pillaged an account from EBAY (see thread entitled "My Confession"), I was curious on how eq windows works.

I have one copy of Everquest and 2 accounts. Do I need a second copy of everquest to run the 2nd account?

Do I even need eq windows with the new mouse that seems to make switching between screens fairly easy???

Do you need to be a rocket scientist to install and configure eqwindows or can a normal guy do it?

I am interested in using my newly acquired account to Powerlevel my 54 chanter. Thanks in advance for your help.

No offense, but Smiley: oyvey.

I don't like seeing threads like these being acceptable on these boards.

I've found that EQWindows is less necessary now that the game used the windows mouse.

I've actually seen that two instances actually run better without EQWindows than with now.

There are two ways you can do it...

Copy your Everquest program directory and call it EverquestB or something. Launch EQGame.exe from one directory, and EQGame.exe from the other. This way all of your characters .ini files will be seperate.

You can also run both copies of the game out of the same directory, but I don't like this approach as much.

Hope this makes sense, I'm a little [a lot] spacey today

When I am using elne's computer to run both accounts I launch the patch screen from one icon on the screen.

Eq windows is not to bad over all However with the addition of he system mouse just starting up two copies is feasable. Best and most reliable way is to just buy another computer. I have two for my monk and my shammy. I'm not sure what your system specs of your computer are but you need a sizeablr amount of resources to do it on one comp.

Nohk,

A year ago I would have agreed with you. Back then I was a purist and though I really never cared whether someone "cheated" with everquest or not, I felt that I never would.

Since then, times have changed in my opinion. With the majority of the high-end game basically out of reach for the casual player, I have decided to try "high-end" account. I play a few hours a week and at level 54, finding a great group on a constant basis is difficult. Sure, there are pick up groups but the quality of players seem to have declined somewhat over the years. The really good players with lots of time have numerous toons @ level 70 and are more interested in raiding and such.

The toons I see at my level are mostly 2 boxed anyway. When in Rome...

I bought this account out of curiosity. I need to learn how to use before I engage in any group activity. This could take weeks.

There are no excuses for cheating.

You think its cheating to buy an account?

I'd have to say there is nothing really wrong with shelling out real money to get ahead a bit. Now if you are making it a career i'd say that's just plain wrong. I don't trust buying other accounts but if you want to buy one who are we to say no it's not fair when the whole of us can go and buy one too. It's not cheating since you aren't getting something for nothing like entering a code or using a 3rd party proggie to allow you to wield 2 2handers. I can understand that he wanted to buy the char. I've been playing causally for many years now and am only level 63. I've never been on a real raid i own only bazarr gear so i'm by no means uber. Sure i two box but i raised that toon form 1 to where it is now just like my main. If i hadn't done that i'd be a bit richer.

Bub, iirc you didn't buy the acocunt out of curiosity, but because you were ********** Smiley: tongue

as to cheating? Nohk, please define, what is cheating in EQ? I am sure you will find it a tad more difficult than you expected... and maybe you were "cheating" some stage too ;)

PS: I don't think what Bub did was right, but hey.

I think another thing that has happened is the fact that plat is so readily available from PP sellers that the economy is grossly inflated. Things are selling regularly for 50K , 80K up to 150K. I believe this is a direct result of people buying PP from Mogs / Mysupersales and injecting huge amounts of cash into the game.

Some of the prices are absolutely ludicrous and the only ones who can afford them are the plat buyers.

It makes me sick sometimes to see my bank only have 5k and it took me forever and a day to get. I remember back in 2002 when the FBSS was the really cool haste item to have. It was 3k all the time. It took me an entire summer to aquire the cash to get that sucker but i got it and was sooooo happy. Now i look at some of the items and say hmmm that sucks

Same thing happened to my travelers boots. Saved a bunch of plat, sneaked through SolA, and purchased my FAT travelers boots (clicky 20 min SOW). Now there basically useless and are no trade.

I 2-box a shaman and a necro. And I didn't take the easy way out and buy an account, I leveled all my characters myself. I too frown upon people that buy accounts. Nothing like your group running through Butcherblock and the 67 high elf cleric geting lost. /rolls eyes

I'm glad to see that your going to take a couple of weeks to get to learn your character, you should have a real winner there.

No soup for YOU!!!
....er, I mean no 2-box advice for YOU!!!

Purchasing plat, gear or characters is really 'cheating' only by being a violation of the Sony EULA. That being said, I personally find it lame and inexcusable, but that is personal opinion only. If you pay RL cash for game property, I feel you are supporting a parasitic economy that does nothing more than damage the game's integrity and enjoyability for all. You're keeping the farmers and the pay for plat sites in business, and they most CERTAINLY cheat in EQ. They make money that way. They get caught, their accounts are cancelled, but they have quite a few accounts and they keep the plat well hidden on other 'mule' accounts, so it's a losing battle that Sony only half-heartedly pursues anyway.

It doesn't really matter how much you play. You're taking a shortcut to get what others work hard for, so don't expect a great deal of sympathy or constructive advice here. I'll also quickly call BS on the allegation that 3/4 of the folks that read these forums would do this. I certainly don't. Probably a good idea for a poll, now that I think of it. Most likely it's already been done though. :)

Sorry if I offend anyone, but I'm just very tired of the many abusers and exploiters in this game, and saying "everybody does it" doesn't seem like a justification to me.

time=money=lots of stuff

sadly there are folks that can spend 22 hours a day playing this game. it's sorta of like real life the "old" money people don't like the "new money" people. Win the lottery and your life seems to go down the drain as i've observed by watching shows on the powerball folk. So buying an account is sorta like winning the lottery. IN the end you still have nothing. You have no love for that character and nothing to say hey look what i did. My hihgest character is 63 and i havea few 50's chars i've had more fun in this game than anyother game i've ever played you don't need to be lvl 70 with millions of plat to have fun.

No offence taken, warchief.

A poll sounds like a good idea. I think you would be surprised on how many do. But I did assume that 3/4 of the population 2-boxed which was wrong on my part.

That's not what you assumed.

You said I alienated 3/4's of the posting population on this board because I don't like cheating, and they do. That has nothing to do with 2-boxing.

Fact is you broke Sonys EULA which is cheating.

Fact is now you think it's ok to flaunt it.

I, like many other people here, do not condone cheating.

End of.

Big deal he bought an account where is it stated you can't buy an account? It is stated you can't sell an account minor interuptation of of the ELUA but thats what it says. Now I don't see you complaining about the people that are telling him to copy the eq directory which is in the EULA and say it can only be copied for backups. Now since your a big avocat of EULA when was the last time you read one form Microsoft and any software program you installed??
