brief MMORPG surveyFollow

#1 Nov 14 2005 at 8:28 PM Rating: Decent
Hello EQ players.

For those of you that dont know me, I am a long-time MMORPG player, with my current character being a level 72 Galka Summoner in Final Fantasy XI.

In real life, I am a senior at the University of Minnesota. My major is a Bachelor's of Science in Sociology and Statistics. As part of my senior project, I am studying the Social Effects of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (SEMMOG), with a website dedicated to this topic, www.semmog.org.

I have created a BRIEF survey in particular dealing with possible correlations between addictive tendencies and MMORPGs. What I need is your help. I need people to fill out a survey to supply me with adequete data for my study.

the survey is here:
http://www.semmog.org/survey.html

The survey takes less than 1 minute to fill out

I realise filling out surveys isn't exactly the most enthralling or exciting thing in the world to do, but I please ask that you take a minute your time and help me with an integral part of my project which is taking me months to complete.

Thank you.

Not sure where I got this site link (might have been from here). Just thought I'd throw it out there for everyone who just can't get enough of these surveys that seem to be popping up here with ever increasing frequency.

I'm doing a paper on college kids that are addicted to doing thesis papers on the "MMORPG" addicted.

I think I need an intervention

I completed your survey and would like to add some constructive criticism mainly in regards to the formation of your questions.

In question 1 the demographics overlap.
Age 15 and age 20 are completely different worlds socially, mentally, finacially and legally. 30+? Age 31 and age 56 are completely different.

There are also errors in your correlations.

Question 5. The MMOG list is grouped innappropriately and leaves out major games. EQ1 and EQ2 attract different kinds of gamers and EQ for the Playstation is a completely different kind of gamer. EVE Online has more subscribers than half the games you listed. In the other category, there should at least be a field to type in a game name.

Television, CDs, Shopping Malls, Sports Clubs and the million other leisure activities out there do not warn you to not forget about your family and responsibilities. In fact, that kind of warning is nowhere to be found on Earth. Your question will result in a fallacy if you present it in a report. No MMOGs warn you so all MMOGs are irresponsible. It is faulty reasoning.

I am an active member of MMORPG Survey Takers Anonymous; thus, I am abstaining from filling out these surveys. I have to admit, I was tempted to click on this link. However, one simple phone call to my sponser, and I was back on the road to recovery.

Oh, by the way, for the original poster:

Might was to look into self-selection effects as a threat to internal validity.

I'm not an idiot, I just play one on EQ1

Does the current MMORPG you play contain a warning message which states that you should not forget about your family, friends, work, school, etc. because of the game? *

I like that one

I filled out the survey, and I must give you credit for providing at least a brief explanation of your reasoning behind your survey. Most people that come here with surveys don't even bother to explain what they need the data for, and the surveys are usually poorly constructed and tedious.

Props to you, Volcanicleather.
