Will my PC work without lag?Follow

#1 Nov 13 2005 at 2:51 PM Rating: Decent
Hey,
I was wondering how much lag would i have with this computer:

Pentium III - 860mhz
128mb Geforce FX5200 PCI
512mb Ram
20gb hard drive
broadband internet

Will I have a lot of lag with the new graphic "technology?"

You will have lots of lag.

Need more RAM and a faster processor.

How bad would the lag be? Will it just lag alittle in certain areas or will it lag constantly?

Might be playable with all options turned down, and clip at 0% etc.

Some zones are always more laggy than others.

It shouldn't be that bad.

My spare comp which I occasionally two box with is similar.
AMD 900 Athalon
VisionTec G2Ultra 64Mb
512Mb PC133
10Gb HDD
DSL

PoK and the Bazaar are pretty laggy but once in other zones I run fine with settings at low-medium and about 70% far clip plane.

Nohk is right, you will benefit from some upgrades.
I would recommend in order of preference CPU then RAM.

I disagree with this statement.

The highest CPU upgrade he could do is a 1.1(ish)GhZ P3...to get a P4, he'd have to buy a new MB, and new RAM...at that point he's upgrading the whole thing.

You'll see a HUGE increase in bumping up to 1GB of ram (or more), you won't see much in just increasing your processor speed a couple hundred Mhz

I would also suggest upgrading to an AGP video card IF YOU HAVE THE SLOT. you'll see MUCH better performance over a PCI card.

hmm...the funny theing is, my PC is maxed to the LIMIT! haha, so i cant really upgrade it anymore, i guess it is time for a new computer lol, but i still want to know lag issuse becuase its going to take me awhile to save up for a decent one.

You'll just have to stay out of PoK or turn the clip plane down so much that you don't see chars untill you are right on them. Thoug on my laptop that is similarly specd to your comp the neew rat and bat models throw it a loop but your vid card is way better so you should be fine. I have a 5200 in my second comp and it does fine so you vid card should be ok with lower settings.

Ewww yeah theat's not even a PCIexpress video card. More ram is all you can do. I'd be very surprised if you had a MB with a Pentium 3 processor that had a 512mb ram limit. Try crucial.com and run their memory advisor tool. Most of the time it will run accurately and give good ram upgrade advice.

I've done RZtW, Grummus and so on on a p3 800. Mostly need /spelleffects off and just live without the "purty" colors.

Turn sound off and get 1gig of mem and you might get away with lag only in crowded zones

it also depends on the operating system.

older windows take less ram to use. xp is a pig. xp i think runs almost 250 ram alone, only leaving 250 or so for eq (with 500 ram) so also depends on operating system.

if you stay in old zones, and look down in PoK you will be "ok" got to RSS or any DoD zone your fooked ;-P

turn off shaders and clip plane down.
