Female playing females here....except for a male chanter that sells KEI to help me make my fortune. But I inherited him from someone.

I prefer to play females because I love the male toons. I don't look at myself when I play. I look at who I'm talking to/playing with. And, when a seksei kitty is hitting on me, I want it to be male :P

male playing male toons. When I play, I am usually in first person view, so I'm not looking at my own rearend lol so it doesn't really matter, but seeing as I am a male irl, I play male toons, I really wouldn't know how to act like a fem anyway....And honestly, it doesn't really matter whether you are a male playing female or vice versa, as long as you are having fun and are truthful about your real gender and not leading others on to believe you are something else, cuz then you are just a scammer or whatever...But hey, to each its own... I found this thread very entertaining and got some good laughs out of it....kudos to the one that started it =)

I myself am a female that plays a female in game....and from time to time my husband gets me to play his character to get it a few levels when he doesn’t want to play (human/pally). I have to say it’s very strange even though I play in first person view, so im not seeing myself as a guy, to play a male.
Where getting gear is concerned with playing a cute female race. Well I haven’t really gotten much till recently and that wasn’t because people were giving it to me because my sex. I was given it from people that I have been friends with either for a while or just of late.
I personally think that players have wised up from just giving gear to "some pretty face" in the game because there are some many because plenty of races yield cute females. Not to mention (the reason for this post) you can hardly tell if the person is male or female till you get to know them....and sometimes not even then.

In all of the cross dressing descussions I've seen I think the most common reason for a male to play a female is that they don't want to look at a male butt in their face. That would make the assumption that the person plays EQ in 3rd person. In a world of 1st person shooters, who really plays EQ in 3rd person? In all of the screenshots you've seen, how many are in 3rd person?

Sorry, I'm not buying it. ;-) Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that your some closet flaming dragqueen who never misses a chance to dress up in his wife's silk pantys and a tutu and flaunt your stuff at the local Fantasy Fest but.....

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Hey, I'm only joking around. =D

Btw, male in rl and male in eq.

If you have any fecking clue about first person shooter you would know that hardly anyone plays with such a low fov as eq provides. I was the swedish nationteam captain in Unreal Tournament and I played first person shooter 5+ hours per day for about 5 years. When I started EQ I really really wanted to play first person, since that gives you the most realistic feeling imo.. Its like playin car racing games.. Who wants 3rd person view there? Thats like driving a radioremotecontrolled car and not at all like driving for real.. But after playing only a few minutes I realised it was impossible to play eq in first person since the fov is like playing counterstrike zoomed in with a scope. Also, the benefits from playing in 3rd person are to big to overlook.

i play both.
i'm male, but my main is female, most frequnitly plays toon is female, but there are a couple of guys in there as well.
the difference is from what i've read here is that i don't, nor ever have, pretended to acctually BE female.
i think it all started because i wanted a shaman.. and wanted a vah shir, and simply wasn't impressed by the male kitty model. so i made a female. since then most of the toons i make end up female for no better reason than my main is.
i've had a few guy try and hit on me, some more smooth, some as subtle as a southpark character. but once i figure out they are acctually trying to flirt instead of just making friendly conversation i make sure they understand i'm not a girl. i met a couple of people who made girl toons to flirt their way into free stuff, and it irritated me - so i made sure no one ever thought i was guilty of that.
but to each their own.

( yes, i know this is an old old post, but i'm bored while my trader is trying to sell stuff in baz.)

I'm a guy. My two mains are a guy and a girl... male halfling ranger, and female drakkin cleric. I play Lamdori more, so I voted "Guy playing as a girl."

I get hit on a lot. It's funny and creepy at the same time. I just tell them I'm a guy in real life... it normally causes them to back off.

I chose female drakkin in the first place, because the males look like overly-tattooed drug addicts who have lived in a trailer park their whole life.

*EDIT* ARGH... I fell for a necropost. Didn't realize until I read snailish's topic... I fail.

Guy playing all male characters.

My roleplay roots are in tabletop D&D, so I was always uncomfortable with males on the other side of the table who would try to roleplay fairy princesses or something. When I started playing EQ, I reasoned that there was no way I'd be playing a female - just never saw much point to it, plus I felt it would make any roleplaying I did a lot more difficult.

Nothing against shims though in the game - pretty much a non-issue for me. I'm more concerned about getting groups and finding time to play, especially the latter.

Speaking of cross-dressed, I thought I'd mention that my male ogre shaman, in his black chainmail, kinda looks like he's a 300 pound bald man wearing a torn-up black miniskirt, lol. Never liked that about the ogre chainmail graphic. Looks much more feminine than male casters in robes - who actually kinda look regal and important in the casters robes to me.

Male playing a male as my main. I do have some female toons though. I just like the way they look. Especially the dark elf females. Mmmmmm. I tried to roleplay it for a while, but just couldnt keep up the girly talk. Was ok, till I started getting /tells from guys wanting to get more graphic. Hehe, their reactions were fun when I told them I was a grungy male Marine in my boxers scratching my rear end. Their reaction was even better when I told them I could get into it, and asked them what they were wearing. I think I got put on my /ignore lists that way.

Female playing all female players, with the exception of my 'acquired' SK, who is a male gnome. Everyone knows it's me playing him, so there is no secrecy involved, but I still find it a bit disconcerting. I cannot ever envision purposely making a male character.

And yeah, boys who play girls do kinda creep me out a little, although I've not met a male player yet (with more than one toon) who didn't play females.

Female playing female here. I don't look at myself when I play, so that is not a factor in gender choice.

I must say though, that the few times I have played my male friend's alt, or the male mule my ex made on my account, I DID get treated differently. Both men and women talked to me differently when I was playing the male toon, even though my conversation, humor - everything were the same as when I play a female. I found that to be rather interesting.

I don't get hit on nearly as much now than 6 years ago when I was first starting out, which is also interesting. Times have changed I guess.

Female playing all females here. Altho I have made and levelled male toons on my husbands account to the mid 50's. He had a female cleric before we were married but she was only low 50's so I got him to let me sac her down for EE's and remake as a male which I promptly levelled up for him. It just felt weird to me hanging out with my *female* husband, LOL. And yes, the difference in the way people talk to you pending sex of toon is noticable. With the exception of frogs and ikkys... which apparently people just assume are male. Havent grouped enough on my ogre yet to see how she'll be treated but I imagine people will assume she is also a guy *shrug*. Been playing too long went for utility and not looks when i rerolled my sk. And I'll have to say, altho not much to look at, ogress makes a much more badda$$ sk than a delf, LOL. If I get tired of being big and fugly I just gulp an illusion pot. Oh and hay yeah, SOE, it's time for some *Gender Bending Illusion Potions*! ROFL
