I've stopped taking surveys like this. There are other, more professional ways to ask someone to take a survey, other than just "It's fun."

It's not fun. It's boring to take surveys. I'll do it if someone can convice me that it's for a good cause, but mostly, I won't be bothered by it.

More information please. If this is for a college class, what class? What kind of info are you trying to obtain? blah, blah, blah.........

Convince us it's above board and worthwhile.

That sucks.

I'm a computer science major and I can't answer the survey because it might alter your results.

Let me guess at a possible reason for the survey. You are trying to prove your hypothesis that people who play MMORPG's are more depresesed/introverted/closed off that people who don't play MMORPG's.

If you want people in a public forum to take your survey, you shouldn't be secretive about the reasons.

you know, if you're worried about bias creeping in to your results... you should have spent more time considering the wording of your questions, because your questions suck.

also:

The readership of alla is not representative of EQ players as a whole. Thus, bias.

People are more likely to answer this survey if they are well-adjusted than if they have social problems caused by EQ, thus, response bias.

Oh. I forgot to point out that 90% of the answers you're getting are gonna be made up.

I guess people aren't looking for details, just some credentials. If you do indeed click on the link you can see what institution is requiring this, who the surveyor is and the name of the survey...all before answering any questions.

Most folks have learned to NOT click on links left on a forum board by someone with 2 posts simply because they say "it's fun".

Why so mysterious?

Well I finally clicked the link - but gave up when I couldn't figure out the answer to question number 2.

I actually decided to click the link, and Groogle's right, your questions suck.

Your survey is pathetic and biased. I cannot even take it as I am 41. Therefore you have an instant bias against older people that play games.

Edited for typo.

Now that I have stated I cannot take this survey, due to my age being over what it asks, I answered every question in the exact opposite manner in which I felt. Therefore your results are guaranteed to be skewed.

WTF you got against people over 40. I hope your can explain this to your professors, why you discount anyone over 40. I hope you can explain to your professors the bias produced by ticked off "old" people who answered your survey pretending to be 18 and giving random answers. But hey, as poorly thought out as the questions were, random is ok, sort of going with the flow of the questions.

She/he is probably so lonely they cant concieve of folks over 40 wanting to play an online game.

Dusting off the old MSW degree and trying to remember research questions, the survey had a good answer response, but the questions are mostly negativly phrased. A better designed survey would also ask questions in a positive frame to compare a respondent's answer. At least that's what I would have done.

Well quite some years back I worked in market research so as an 'expert' on surveys let me clarify a few points you might what to share with other 'psych major' students who plan to do surveys:

1- Always introduce yourself and say who you are and what you want from people.

2- NEVER present a survey as something it is not. Do not say (taking this case as example) it's for fun when you are actually gathering the data entered by others, that's called misleading and a big NO NO in reseach and live in general.

Infact the intro page of your survey states: "....of the study is to understand if there is a correlation between people's emotions and online gaming...." which means that you not being able to inform us what this is about is total rubbish.

3- Explaining what a survey is about will not influence the results. What influences the results is the way the questions are asked, or when doing face2face or via phone leading a respondent to a certain answer.

4- I will email Faculty Supervisor and Assistant director informing them of this post of yours and hoping they will instruct their students on how to properly and in a polite way ask people to participate in a survey. Reason for this is that I heard one of my underage guild members talk about this, and as a kid he didn't even bother to read the rules and disclaimer because you said it was "fun". If you would have posted this as a "survey-research into internet addiction and loneliness" he would not have bothered even looking at it, as such your data is now flawed and not a representation of the age group you are doing this survey with.

Alla, I hope you will make sure this post stays were it is so the faculty can check themselves.

EDIT: I decided to take this survey (not answering any questions) just to see what you are asking. Man oh man is this a leading survey. You can read my email if you ask Mr Waite or Ms Kaplan.
You have to do some serious reseach on how to conduct a survey.
