Hi

Im returning to EQ after not playing for 3 years this christmas but I just want to know whats a good Race/Class to start up again alone because most of my friend to all of them have ethier quit or went to Eq2.

So if you have any suggestions on this question feel free to shoot them my way

P.S

Anything other suggestions on a PC that would be good for the updates now...be able to run it lag free

Thanks

Froglok Necro

I second froglok necro; they're evil, eat bugs, are amphibious, and they hop! Smiley: smile

that said, what do you think you'd enjoy playing? tank? melee dps? do you like to nuke? heal? etc.....try what you think you'd like; if it doesn't work out, reroll.

race isnt really the biggest issue but class is huge.

Necro
Beastlord
any if the true caster classes.

would be my choices in tha torder.

The beauty of a necro is they are the least gear dependant class in the game and you will be starting from scratch.

The worst thing you can do is play a tank. They are the most gear dependant and worst soloers which means you will struggle at every phase of the game and level slower.

I personaly have to disagree with some here in that I have had no prob soloing my Paladin. Admididly I am only a lv 50 but at 47 I could solo into the hole. carry a few potions, clairity ,heal, haste and gate. and it works great I know someone is going to say something about cost of armor and potions It is really no more expensive than the research and bone and aggets and......... of caster. yes a nec is a faster solo to lv and being faster will be able to be more carefree. but I prefer Melee and love it when I am tanking and I save someone life with ToH :) just my two cents

I still say necro for soloing. I can't think of another class that gets more...corpse sumon, rez, pet, dots, nukes, snare, root, feign death, levitate, fixed duration invis, can make your own mana like a fiend, etc. Plus if you need to go afk for a few mins, just FD.

It's a great class and defiently the most powerful solo. When my shaman was 65, I hooked up with a 70 necro in pov. He pulled the mob, dotted it and by the time I slowed and maloed it the mob was at 20%.

As far as race it doesn't really matter too much except for Iksar. Iksar get a 20% xp penelity but they get a higher base regen and slightly higher ac. I chose an iksar so I now play the most hated race/class in the game which is fine by me, I can kill most anything and not worry about faction hits. ;-)

Im a big fan of the following

_________
Paladins
ShadowKnights
Bards
Warriors
BEASTLORDS

I want to try
_________
Cleric
Druid

Ive never really been good with casters but then again I tryed to get into magic with ShadowKnights and Beastlords and bards kinda but yeah I just need a tip on a PC that can run it and a good class that I can use as a main to get up high enough where I can start my shadowknight, Bard, Paladin, Beastlord as alts.

this is going to be a task for me because Ive help all my friends when I needed help starting my alts and stuff they would give me armours and weapons and free PL but Im looking forward to the work im going to have to do when I get everquest up and running

PS

Would a Beastlord be good to start a main with?

I recommend rolling a beastlord or necro, both are good at soloing. Necros are the most powerful soloers IMO and beastlords got more to offer group-wise.

I say necro's are better in groups.Mana feed and at higher levels mindwhack, always good when the healer is at FM =p

Play what you want to play. /nod

My first toon ever was a paladin (and I still claim him as my main) but in the time it took me to level him to 65 I have leveled 3 other characters up between 60-70. Gear is always an issue and left me standing on the sidelines a few times.

I wouldn't suggest to anyone to start a tank as their first toon - but if that's what you really want to play - do it! In the end you'll have more fun playing even if it does take you longer to level. If you go with a tank class, you might want to try a SK or Paladin instead of a Warrior as they do have some soloing ability.

There's no real reason to make a final decision either - try a few different classes - race doesn't matter. Level to your 20s or so and you'll have a good idea of what you like - than roll another to try.

Vah Shir Beastlord would be my pick.

Edit: welcome back.

1st toon. Vahshir Beastlord
2nd toon. DarkElf Shadowknight or Froglok Paladin
3rd toon. Iksar Necromancer

Wizard and Ranger have been my favorite classes so far. It's so YOU dependent though, just go for it and have fun. Smiley: wink

I would put as much or more consideration into what server you start up on as that could make much difference in finding
players to group with.

yeah and that I need a server where friendly people are common.

and a server good for ethier beastlord or shadowknight or paladin :)
#19 Nov 07 2005 at 12:51 AM Rating: Decent
All servers have good people and bad too - but mostly good.

For someone just starting out again at lower levels I'd recommend Povar, Stromm or Maelin Starpyre. Good populations on all for lower level players.

also remember where you are based country wise. For example Antonius Bayle has a majority european based population so if you in Australia or US ways it can be rather quiet in the evenings.

What I did was create a 'test toon' and had a look at some servers who's names appealed and see what it was like. In the end I did settle for a 'euro' server as it had more players around when I was awake.

Bah choose one toon you can live with then come to FV and ignore no drop crap.... oh and I would say make it a Necro...erm no frog they really shouldnt be necros Ykesha got drunk after takin back Grobb and that was a mistake that he now has to live with... iksar not bad choice take ya a lil longer to get to AA only point but hell if you necro that means take you like 50 days instead of 40 =P anyother class specially if you not played it afore you lookin at least double that timeframe.

Ifn ya do go godclass good site

Don't forget there is more to the game than just soloing. If you like groups and like being needed choose a cleric shaman or warrior/sk/pally those are in high demand for groups and can be used solo with the use of the healing potions and the ability to BW past 50% now a days. EQ isn't online so you can sit all alone and solo low risk mobs. But if you liketo solo necro beastie or a shammy will do well.
#23 Nov 13 2005 at 12:23 AM Rating: Decent
i agree with netos.necros/shammys/bards(tho not as easy to play as the other 2) are easy to lvl tanks well, own.if ur in it for the grind go tank(think for a sec what do guilds boast about how many necros that can solo they have or how many 13k+ tanks they have).of course its gonna take u awhile before u can start rawrin and sayin HAHA JOO SUXORZ at other tanks but its more rewarding.i say this just cuz i got my brd up in the 50s so quik it was just boring to play um anymore so i made other toons.now if u want a fun sumbish make a mnk.....for some reason they play the same I HAVE MORE BETTA GEAR DAN JOO HAHA game wars play but the added thing of pulling.anyway where was i......o ya who ordered the fries????o and do whatever u want cuz in the end having a toon u get bored with defeats the purpose of playing a game
