Pet Woes / SkillupsFollow

I have a baby SK that I'm testing out. So far I like him.

I try to keep my skills maxed as high as they can be per level.

That being said, normally, I would get a C1, conjure up a pet, and then blast him with lifetaps (Alteration), disease clouds (conjuration), and Harm Undead(evocation).

Yesterday, when I was planning on doing a little bit of spell skillups, none of the spells "would take hold."

I **KNOW** that this worked less than a week ago, but since then, there have been 2 patches.

Did the ability to nuke / dot your pet get changed with the last patch???

aye...can't cast detrimental spells in non-combat zones (such as pok) anymore. Kinda blows.

you have to go to another zone.

PoK, PoT, Bazar (outside of arena) etc zones have PvP restricted.

and btw, you can cast spells on a corpse also.

The ability to cast detrimental spells in places like the guild hall or PoK have been removed. So you can no longer get skillups for basically casting spells that did not effect the target in any way. I think it also applies to targets outside these zones, to targets where detrimental spells would normally not do damage (like group members, other PCs or pets).

I believe the thinking is, to get a skillup for a detrimental spell, you should be forced to cast it where it at least has the possibilty of landing and doing damage.

That is bad to hear. There is no way can you keep up in all magic skills fighting. If so, I would not have spent the many hours needed to raise magic skills every few levels for all my alts, it sure wasn't fun! If the alt had no pet I nuked/dotted/healed myself (or the corpse thing), not to mention cast true north a gazillion times. Can you still hit yourself? torn on that one, if I couldn't snare/tash/dot myself, I may almost accept the pet thing, though it has been awhile since I killed myself Smiley: lol

you can still hit your pet or a corpse in city zones, just not 'neutral' zones such as PoK, PoT, The Nexus, GL/GH..etc..still shouldn't be that hard to work on skill up. Additionally only detrimental spells are affected, so skills such as Conjuration, Abjuration, Alteration, and Divination can still be easily trained in these zones.

That, I didn't know. I'll have to use that, my shammy's evocation needs some work. Smiley: sly

I usually train those up in the guild hall at the healing pool. Having the boosted regen is very helpful in keeping my mana up to be able to chain cast the needed spells.

Of course I have to shrink first, otherwise my fat troll sitting on a drogmar takes up most of the room.

OK, I tried training my evocation on a corpse in GD today. I got no skill ups after chain casting DD spells on the corpse for several minutes. As soon as I switched to targeting myself, I was getting skill ups all over the place. So I guess the casting on a corpse trick no longer works.

I'm not sure if practicing casting on Soulbinders still works, but it's worth a shot.

I haven't had a slacker alt in awhile.

Do you mean power levelling because through normal levelling, it is easy to keep skills up.
