Quick questions re. bards and instruments. For which parts of the song cycle do I need to have an instrument equipped in order to get the full instrument amplified effect for the entire duration of the song?

i.e. if this is the cycle:

1) Hit hotbutton: /cast 1
2) Cast delay (during which you can miss a note)
3) Song starts - effect starts
4) Song ends - effect ends

Do I need the instrument equipped:

a) Only at the point of hitting hotbutton to cast?
b) Until the song starts?
c) Until the song ends?

Many thanks.

P.S. Bandoliers make barding much easier I imagine. I can only begin to imagine the pain of constantly swapping instruments manually.

WTF! Are you coming back to EQ? :)

I don't see many bards who actually play an instrument (apart from the occasional drum for resists - I think), to be honest. Assailant can probably fill you in on this, or Groggle.

You need to equip the instrument before the song starts. For example:
You might be chant kiting with drums equipped and for added damage you add the one minute dot Angstlich's Assonance which uses a brass instrument. It's ok to start casting Angstlich's Assonance and then switch to brass as long as you get the instrument in before you finish casting. You can then switch back to drums and Angstlich's Assonance will give the full brass mod damage each tick till song ends.

Probably because most of the bards you play with have their epic Smiley: wink

Kind of back to EQ, but very very casually.

Heh, yes, I guess epic 2 helps out a wee little :)

Great to have you back. What's the name of your little mangina?

I see, so in theory, I could have the instrument equipped for a split second only, as long as that split second coincided with the cast finishing? Excellent.

Runs off (very quickly) to experiment with hotkeys.

Yea the instrument only needs to be equiped a couple seconds. Equip it while casting and change it right after the song starts.

I believe it only has to be equipped for the split second the song fires at.

but it would be easy to test with selos. start it without a drum equipped, equip it right before selos goes off... do you go drum speed or not? tahdah, answer

wouldn't it be even esier to test with stats/resist songs? driving a selo speed needs full concentration :]

Is it also true that the target I hit with a song, is the target I have at the end of the cast, rather than at the start of the cast?

If I understand your question correctly (and with my appaling bard knowledge): if you target a mob to - let's say - mez and start your mez song, it will hit that mob. Even if you decide to pick another target while the song is being cast, it will still hit the original target.

Goalkeeper is correct. but beware of a reoccouring bug where your weapon procs a targeted effect when you are attacking a different mob and the bug will cause you to switch the song landing target to that mob. if I make sense...
