Guild RegistrationFollow

I am posting under a different name, so that if any members of my guild read this, they won't be offended.

I am the officer of a family style guild, and we have a website dedicated to raids, upcoming events, links, etc.

However, only about 20% of guild members have ever created an account, meaning, they do not see everything we are putting into this, they never post on our forums, etc.

Do any guild leaders / officers have any ideas on how to "force" registration? The MOTD isn't doing it.

The other officers and myself understand that this IS a family guild, so fewer restrictions should be imposed upon the members, but there is a growing suspicion that we are being used as a stepping stone to "greater things," and the concensus is beginning to become of the mindset that, "If you don't care enough to create a login and post on your own guild site every once in a while, then perhaps this isn't the guild for you."

Any suggestions? The other officers and I have brainstormed about what would make people come, register, and post, but in the meantime, I am beginning to have the same feeling, that the other members only seem to really care when there is something "in it for them."

I am a guild leader of a Family guild as well that has had many of the same issues. I have noticed over the last 3-4 years that most guildies dont visit the guild website.....or for that matter even read the MoTD. 1 thing we have been doign that has riased intrest in the website is to hold a weekly / bi-weekly lottery for good drops , crystals and Plat from time to time. The only way to enter the lotto is on the Fourms. Rolls for lotto items take place in the game so the guildies who dont visit the website see what they are missing. We have been doing this for 2-3 months now and traffic to the site has increased and I see more posts from people who never posted in the past.

The lottery idea seems to work for us, at least they stay in contact that way. Our officers drop members who don't log in to the guild website at least once in 30 days and do something productive. Guild hall meeting every two weeks at two different days/times to keep members on track seems to help as well.

Most guilds have merit points of course, but we set a point minimum to get in on the lottery. Lottery is posted in MOTD.

I know of other guilds that have a policy of not letting members back in if the move on/quit/or are dropped from guild, but that seems a bit harsh to me, for a family guild.

In my experience, the major difference between the family guild and raiding guild is raid/event attendance requirements. In a raiding guild, raid attendance is a must or you're dropped. In a family guild we stress the social aspects to a higher degree. But in each type the members have to meet the requirements.

If they don't register, check the forum, read the MOTD or attend guild events, how can the possibly be considered a guild member?

You mentioned that your website is dedicated to raids also. If this is true maybe you have dkp. I would prohibit anyone from earning dkp until they are registered. If they dont have the time to register you dont have the time to track their dkp.

Gonna disagree witht he raffle thing. It sounds like your guildies are already trained to expect something for doing what they should be doing. I think it is about time to teach people how it should really work and restrict guild services (maybe even including membership) until they register, Then you will find out who really wants to be there and who is just there for the help til something better comes along.

If you are more of a family guild then a raiding guild then to be honest you have to expect people to move on once they decide they want to progress. In some cases like tank classes raiding is almost a must if you want to tank certain zones. It would be pretty hard to tank RSS with bazaar bought gear w/o tons of aa.

The bottom line is family guilds really dont cre about their website and for raiding guilds its a must. It kinda sounds like your in the middle and really dont know which type of guild you want to be. Once that decision is made the rest will solve itself.
