Hey everyone, I was wondering what way you found that doing the fairy monster mission in nek forest the easiest?

I have found that you should run straight to the chest, if you get agro run up wall and hide to lose agro. Then destroy chest, pass out loot. Then loot the dust. Then just kille every rat that is in your way on the way to the shrine. Having no added rats while at first shrine kill the shrine. When the protector pops, all concentrate on him, take him down, then continue the shrine. Rinse, repeat till all three are down.

Other people tell me killing rats is worthless. Yea its worthless, but it gets rid of them so you dont have to worry about deaths and can concentrate on shrines and i feel it goes faster this way.

Anyone else?

There is another thread lower down about this mission, never killed rats, or the protector in any of the missions we did.

Key things you need to make sure of, most of them common sense:
Do not dot a shrine after 30%.
Do not finish off a shrine if anyone is dead.
Do not zone with dust if anyone is dead or near dead.

It also helps while someone is killing a shrine to lure the mobs away from them, just keep announcing what percentage of hp the shrine is at, so those luring mobs don't die at the wrong time.

The up the wall thing to loose agro also works in all parts of the zone, sort of running against the edge, sometimes, not always, but enough that it is useful sometimes. I don't know why it fails or works, might be the angle, but I have run to the edge and been able to use hide.

There's a much, much easier way to do this.

We've identified each shrine with a name: "cave" shrine is the one by the cave entrance. "Ent" shrine is the shrine you can see when you zone in. "Grove" shrine is the one in the middle, in the back of the grove bewtwwn the ent shrine and the cave.

If you have 4 or more people: Send at least one person to each shrine, while the wisps are up and before you loot the chest. The wisp's aggro range is smaller than the rats and it is MUCH easier to get to the shrines then. In a 6 person group, the ideal is 2 people to ent shrine, 2 to grove shrine, and 1 to cave shrine. The last person goes to the chest. When everyone is in position, that person beats on the chest and loots the dust. When this is done, he should go assist in taking down the cave shrine.

Using this method, no one has to travel much and risk aggroing. Most of the time the shrines are all down before the first GR even pops.

If you have 3 or fewer people: set up at the grove shrine at least. Grove is the hardest shrine to get to from the respawn point, once the GRs have started popping.

We never bother trying to kill anything. If things go well, no one even gets aggro at all until all three shrines are dead, and by then, dying is really just a gate back to the ent, which is where you need to be anyway. ;)

Kelti's absolutely right though... don't let the shrines die to DoT damage from Faerie Fire and DON'T zone out while anyone is dead.

how are you getting the shrine's down with only two people hitting the shrine without the GR popping?

It doesn't matter who looted the dust. All you have to do is have someone sit on the first tree stump on the right side (facing towards the zone out). The most important thing is to make sure nobody dies on the last part or they won't get the xp.

The GR pops are on a timer. Two people using DoTs, melee, and Kick (you know the faeries get kick, right?) can take a shrine out fairly quickly.

Soemtimes, of course, a rat aggroes or a GR pops and someone dies. But even then, if you have all 3 shrines being beat down from the instant the dust is looted, it goes pretty fast. I don't rememeber a single time all three GRs were up using this method with a 6 person group.

another easy way:

-everyone go beat on the chest
-loot dust
-everyone run to first shrine
-everyone beat on it till 50%
-then everyone dot it then hide. (check you are hidden by conning a rat to see if indifferent)
GR will show up and not see anybody, he will then walk down to where the chest was, now everyone run to the next shrine and repeat.

At the first two shrines you will have to kill the close by rat to make things easier.

Can you beat down shrine to say 60% before the dust is looted.

Sadly, no. Last tme I checked (the day DoDH came out), the shrines are invulnerable until the dust is looted.

How we do it on Brell is - have 1-2 people run to the cave shrine and north shrine, then 1-2 people to the chest. Chest goes down, loot dust. Hide, dot, hide, dot at both shrines; make sure the cave shrine goes down first, since IIRC the see-invis GR spawns when one shrine goes down, and the cave shrine is the hardest to do with the see-invis GR out; then take the north shrine out. Everyone dies and repops at the ent. Then, from on top of one of the stumps at the ent, you can see (and dot) the west shrine. Do so. Easy win. Have done many with 3 people.

It's much easier to kill the GR at this point. It can be done (barely) with even four Faeries. With six it's not hard. The important thing is to make sure everyone is using Kick and the DoT ability. If the group stays together after the Rats are spawned, it's really quite easy.

I've done this mission both of the generaly accepted ways. I prefer the one where the group stays together, and kills the GR as it spawns. It just works better IMO.

send 3 to chest
send 1 to northmost shrine (grove)
send 1 to hide behind last shrine (westmost on map)
leave 1 at zone

3 destroy chest
2 move from chest to cave shrine
loot dust
northmost and westmost kill shrines down to 55%
2 kill cave shrine
north and west kill shrines the rest of the way ... turn atk off and HIDE when you see a GR!!!! ... GR have large arrgo range but do not appear untill that shrine is at 50% hps

if you are careful, you need not kill any rats or GR ... the rumors of no xp when dead/ quest tasks not valid if you are dead are FIXED!!!

you get credit for what has happened weather dead or not now!!!

After having done more of these than I care to admit and having been in groups that have tried many of the above listed methods to complete the mission, I feel the following method is the most consistent:

1) 2 peeps head to the North/grove shrine and hide.
2) 4 peeps head to the chest and start beating on it.
3) When the chest gets under 10, 3 of the people at the chest head to the Cave/East shrine and hide while the remaining toon finishes off the chest.
4) The remaining person at chest then loots the dust after confirming that the other 3 are safe at the East/Cave shrine.
5) People at North and East take down their shrines. East will usually get a rat to argo, but mele/dot shrine and heal as needed.. East will go down fast.
6) When your shrine is down, "gate" to zone by leting the mobs kill you.
7) When everyone has popped at zone, move ahead a bit until you can target the remaining shrine, West/closest. Dot that shrine to death. Just don't cast if any mobs are near the shrine, they will argo you. Stay near entrance, no need to go to shrine. Your dots will bring it down in less than a minute. There are up to two rats that wander near entrance and can argo. Team up and kill them, if necessary.
8) When west shrine falls, everyone should be alive. Dust looter zones and you win!

This is a fast, safe, easy method. East/cave, the pain of this mission, always gets done first and before anyone dies.

Need 5-6 for this, but go loot chest, kill everything in your path, take down shrines, win.

Takes time, but it is so very theraputic to kill them all after having died so many times trying to complete this mission.

Just try it once, you'll see what I mean.

Feels good.

the few times we've done this mission as a guild, it's what we did. It worked fine! may have taken a bit longer, but it was a hell of a lot of fun!

I posted the strategy below for my guild on our site, because I found a way I like to do it. And as an officer in a family guild I do a lot of helping for the younger players (toon and experience-wise, not age), so when we do this MM I am usually leading. Using players who knew this strategy well, we completed this MM in 13 minutes.

(cut and pasted)

BEST WAY TO DO A FAIRY MM

This strategy splits the group in the beginning, and once the chest is dead the group stays together, which is the key to winning this mission efficiently. Remember that death means nothing in MM's, except that you respawn with 50% hp and mana. So if you die, just continue doing what you were doing before your death, after your respawn.

So the first thing that needs to be decided when doing a Fairy MM is who is going to the chest, and who is staying up front (approx. 1/2 and 1/2). Priority for the chest group will be given to any players who can benefit from the loot that is in the chest, when it is capable of being looted. If you are in need of loot and the chest group is already filled, don't worry, this mission is easy and you WILL get this loot within a couple missions.

At the beginning of this MM, the players who stay up front just sit at the zone-in until the chest has been looted.

*Assignment of players - The assignment of who goes to the chest and who stays up front will be based primarily on number of players in the group, and secondarily on who needs the loot from the chest. All other players stay up front.
--6 people in group - 3 players to the chest
--5 people in group - 2 players to the chest
--4 people in group - 2 players to the chest
--3 people in group - 1 players to the chest

*Chest Group - If you are in the chest group, this is what is expected of you:
- At the beginning of the MM, run to the chest along the right wall. Stay as close as you can to the wall and keep running, even if you get aggro from the Witch Lamps. The Witch Lamps will lose aggro when high up on the wall of the cave. So get there quickly, and you will get a message telling you when the Lamp has lost aggro. Heal if needed and continue to the chest.
- When you get to the chest, target it and start attacking from maximum melee range. Remember to kick for added dps. The chest is immune to all magic. If you get aggro from a Lamp, back up to the wall behind the chest and stay there until your aggro is lost. Heal only if you're 20% or below, and continue atatcking the chest.
- When the chest is "dead" the person who won the rights to loot the reward loots either the NECKLACE or the SWORD. (only one or the other will be there)
- ONE person (remember who) then loots the Fairy Dust, which triggers each Lamp to turn into a rat called "an undead minion".
- Each player in the chest group then kills themselves by letting the rats attack. At which time they will be returned to the zone-in with 50% hp/mana and join the players who stayed up front.

*Clearing Rats
The players up front will decide who the MA is and assist that person when killing the rats. One player can be designated as healer, and then pass the job onto someone else when they are OOM. If need be, also rotate the MA as needed to prevent as many deaths as possible.
.
- Begin pulling/killing the rats that are up front, one at a time, and you should have your 2nd rat already dying when the last of the chest group finishes zoning back to the front.
- At this point any player who is OOM may want to die to replenish their mana to 50%.
- After approximately 5 rats are killed, the area in the center of the shrines will be clear of aggro from rats, and you can begin dotting the shrines (which is, of course the real goal).

*Shrine DoTing - Here's how to DoT the shrines:
- DoT ALL shrines from the area between the shrines that has the tree stumps. You can reach all of the shrines from this central location.
- When the group is done clearing rats, go to the DoTing area and all players cast their Fairy Fire DoT on the shrine nearest the cave. (Cave Shrine)
- Continue to DoT the shrine until it reaches 50%, and at which point 'a reanimated cryptrobber' will spawn in the cave and walk toward the Cave Shrine.
- "Cave at 50%" is everybody's cue to quickly switch your target to the North Shrine, DoT it, target the West Shrine, DoT it also, then run toward the zone to hide and med.
- Rules for Cryptrobbers:
a)They have a larger aggro range than the rats, and usually at least one of them sees invis.
b)NEVER DoT a shrine when a robber is near it. It WILL draw aggro.
c)If you DO get aggro from a robber at anytime, run TO THE CAVE to die. This will avoid training the whole group (and you'll have 50% hp/mana).
- When the North Shrine gets to 50% another robber will pop in the cave and join his buddy at the top, near the shrines. Continue to med until these 2 walk back toward the cave.
- Re-DoT the Cave Shrine, if needed, to finish it off, and re-DoT the other shrines as well.
- A 3rd robber should have popped and walked up top by now, and everybody should be near the entrance avoiding aggro. Once he is out of the way you are ready to re-dot any of the last 2 shrines that may need it, fall back to the entrance and wait for the DoTs to finish them off.
- After the 3rd shrine is down and your task has been updated, the person who looted the dust from the chest zones out. DO NOT zone out until anybody that may be dead has re-popped in the zone.
- When the person holding the dust zones, everybody else will receive the task update message and a experience gained message.
- All zone out and receive your experience reward for completing this MM. Also, if you happened to loot the NECKLACE or SWORD (link not working at time of this post), you will have it in your toon's inventory and the final stats will be based on your toon's original level. (Highest level stats linked)

I know it sounds hard, but in practice is quite easy. The key to it is just to stay together and follow the lead of your Mission Leader. By following this simple, yet efficient, strategy it is possible to complete this in 13 mins with 6 people.

So good luck on this and don't be afraid to do this one with only 3 people. It will take a few minutes longer, but it is very doable with a little patience.
(end of paste)

Basically, there are a couple of the flaws that I've found in the "Hide behind the shrine" method. The first is that usually at least one of the robbers sees invis and there is no telling whether it's going to be the 1st to pop or the last. The second flaw I see is that if you get aggro, even from one rat, you'll die, which overall adds to the time it takes to complete the mission (I don't know about you, but I've grouped with some great players that were also sloooow-zoners, know what I mean?). If you can minimize the deaths to only when you WANT to die to regain your mana, then your efficiency is increased even further.

I acknowledge that there are may ways to do this MM, and you may not want to do it this way. Actually the only rule in this MM that should be followed is to make sure the group knows which strat you have in mind.

The group has a responsibility to listen to the strat and FOLLOW it, even if they don't agree with it. Even if you don't like that particular strat, and you agree to it, DON'T start doing your own thing in the middle of the mission. That's just rude, and leads to confusion and deaths.
