Building the perfect group?Follow

#27 May 07 2007 at 7:03 AM Rating: Decent
I would have to go with this

Warrior <Tank>
Cleric <Healer>
Beastlord <DPS/Buffs>
Rogue <DPS>
Enchanter <Slows/Crowd control>
Pally <back up tank/healer>

Been playing for a while and this is still my favorite group.

6 Mages with Air pets don't need a Shammy.

As mentioned, it really depends what you are killing and where. For example, in a DoN instance like Grounding the Drakes, the Drakes spend so much time casting spells that just 1 or 2 Mages with air pets make that a laughably trivial misson. On the other hand, try tanking Vxed stonemites with a Mage air pet and no healer...

Necromancers can do group str, atk, and ac buffs. Heal the entire party. Kite adds and usually have them down low enough so they die quickly when the party has time. Necromancers can FD pull almost as good as a monk. Necros even get a 3 tick ghetto mezz. And if you're fighting undead a necro is a must with undead slows.

Hrmmm, why did nobody mention Necromancers? No wonder Necromancers solo so much.

Whenever I group in Icefall Glacier and I kite adds, I usually kill the add before the rest of the group is finished tanking and killing the first mob.
Don't misunderstand, I am not bragging, I have maxed out my DOT AAs and focus effects and I just cast my spells and this happens. I do not have any special skills as a player. This is why you see most Necromancers solo. It is just faster for us to get xp solo, especially AA xp. I get 18 to 20% per kill in Vergalid Mines and I can kite 2 level 75+ mobs at a time and use only 60% of my mana. I run tribute so I can unoffcially time this as well. It only takes 3 minutes to kill those 2 mobs for 2 yellows of AA xp. Again, I am not bragging, SOE just gave us the tools to do this. I am surprised there are not more calls for Necromancer nerfs.

Having to hold back casting DoTs in a traditional "tank" group so as to avoid getting aggro is so inefficient for a Necromancer it is absurd.

The best group I had ever been in was a couple years ago in an LDoN mission. I believe we were low lvl 50s.

2 beastlords
2 mages
1 necro
1 monk (me)

I pulled whatever I could see, whether it was 1 or a few, they would sic their pets, and I'd add my DPS. If I needed a heal, bsts would send me one, or I'd back off and let pets take over for a bit. We plowed thru the mission in about 15min, barely having to sit to med since necro could transfer mana with spells. We were cracking up on how easy it was.

I know this isn't the point of the thread, but I just wanted to share this in case someone wanted to try it and see for themselves.

I have used the below group in just about every zone very effectively

Warrior
Monk
2 x Shaman
Ranger
Wizard

However a more balanced group

Warrior
Monk
Shammy
Cleric
Ranger
Wizard or bard

Kiting groups and pet groups are fun but are limited to where they can kill (necro trying to kite summoning mobs in ashengate = dead necro)

All the above being said realistically you can make a group of pretty much anything - you might be restricted in what you can do but theres a lot of choices out there

I used to duo on my mage with a friend who played a warrior - no slows, no snares, no heals - was great fun (and yes of course we died a lot)

I am thinking of getting my friends to all make a bard and do a completely bardy group for giggles.

IMO, a good group just needs a tank, puller, 2 DPS, and 1 cleric and shaman.

the perfect group in my opinion is

WARRIOR (tank)
CLERIC (healer)
WIZARD (dps/ports)
BERSERKER (dps (best melee dps in game))
SHAMAN (buffs/slows/backup healer)
BARD (pulling/crowd control/buffs(songs))

What a wonderful necro. We've got tarv, delbalic. and mentalfrog. That greenshag has stood the test of time is notable.

There is no perfect group. Anytime 2 people and their mercs get together these days is just, amazing.
