What level we talking about there and what price range?

I have yet to create him, so lvl 1. Though i would like to stick with one type to build the skill. Plat really isn't an issue. List a few for throughout the higher levels as well, if you would.

Your epic will be 1HS, however, there are allot of nice 2HB weapons for druids out there. You will not be meleeing after level 20 so weaponskills are not terribly important.

Pick yourself up a Luminescent Staff if you get the chance for quadding, or a Foraging Machette if your into tradeskilling.

If you can ge tyour hands on one of these
, its a nice weapon that will last you for quite awhile.

As I do not have my epic (shame on me I know) in thehigher levels I use mainly Ceraminc Totem of Xegony and Wand of the fateseeker

When I kite I tend to switch to the Ceramic Sword of War for the extended range.

These are usually for higher levels though, and can cost a pretty penny.

Just some ideas for you though

I'm a big fan of 2HB for a druid. The higher damage coupled with the longer delay allows you to really *gentle* the mob and still leaves you time to cast between swings.

My lvl 35 druid is currently swinging this: Staff of Living Sand
And in about 5 more levels I plan to move him up to this: Staff of the Earthcrafter
He also carries one of these for quadding: Hierophant's Crook

I'd agree on the Scimitar of the Emerald Dawn. As a newbie an extra 100 mana will be massive and the weapon ratio isn't bad but the delay is rather long for much in the way of skill rises.

Bone Handled Scimitar is also nice although at low level 8 WIS won't translate into much mana.

Not having unlimited funds I always start my druids with a Coldain Velium Scimitar. 100pp and procs at level 1 when 12 damage is more than you can nuke for Smiley: smile.

well...i don't have enough hours to play and farm so I decide to quest one...my lvl2 Druid swings (don't know how to replace link for name like others did) Iksar Berserker Club. no mana but fast enough to skill up without much swinging

Don't forget about the Mistletoe Cutting Sickle.
Seeing these are crafted, the price can depend on how many are available. On Vazaelle someone has about 30 or so of these for sale and set the price at 900 plat.
Plus I like the look on my druid.

Also the 22 delay/8 Dam is pretty cool especially since I have a Silvery Belt of Contention, when it get s messy and I have to melee...I swing that blade pretty quickly! lol

Will people PLEASE get off the notion that druids (or any other caster for that matter) will not melee after level 20.

HOGWASH! Get all your weapons skills above 100.

You need those skills if only to finish off snared mobs when you are OOM.

My druid is using a Soulstripper (1HB) as a main weapon. Granted a bit out of reach for a level 1. I had used the Iksar Club and Velium Etched Stone Mace.

For 2HB I'd like to pick up one of Old Blue's choices though. I currently have a Groaning Mace for 2HB.

I used a Koada`Dal Falchion of Tunare (Tunare only HIE cultural smithed) for a while and now a Crystallized Shadow Scimitar to train 1HS in anticipation of Epic 1.0.

I am never a fan of 2hb for any caster. You are not melee you should be more worried about stats/mana/HP than melee damage(if you want melee damage get a procing weapon). With 2hb you will loose HP and mana which is bad.

There is a place for melee: when the mob is snared, you have 2% left to go for the kill, and YOU CANT GET A HIT ON THE SoB. This is when you decide to work on weapons skills.

Yes I know, sit down, med up the mana, then dot/blast him again, but that is so slow and boring. A last smack up side the head is so satisfying. :)

Actually, since Karlowin is a halfling, he should have said, "smack up side the ankle" I guess. :)

If you check the links on the 3 weapons I listed, you'll see that all 3 proc AND have nice stats including mana & WIS and as a bonus, all 3 do lots of damage.

And while druids are not a melee class, saying they should not be concerned with doing melee damage is silly. I want to kill the mob any way I can, and if a part of that methodology includes beating on it while waiting for the DoTs to do their work, I don't have a problem with it!

Nothing is more frustrating then swinging repeatedly at a mob and seeing the message that reads:

You swing at a suchandsuch but MISS

And nothing is more satisfying than the message that reads:

You crush a suchandsuch for 63 damage

The only one i would even possibly consider is the earthcaller one it has ok stats. PBAE and dot procs are the suck.....big time more so dot procs(theya re the devil).

THe thing about 2hb is this ya you might hit for 30 more big deal.......you melee damage still isn't going to be very noticable and you loose lots of stats. YOu could get an extra 100hp/mana or so from a second slot......and 100hp/mana>63 damage any day of the week.

I suggest Scimitar of the Emerald Dawn, it has +100 mana, 20 to poison/disease and a 20/34 hit/delay. So extremely good for a low level.

Except perhaps the knowledge that the mana you regenned medding "while the dots did their work" will do a heck of a lot damage more than you can do fannying around with a big stick.

I'm a great believer in the old adage "When the going gets tough the druid is too far away to care".

Elorian:
At the level being talked about the high stat weapons are not really available. You won't find many ways to put 15 WIS or 100 mana in each hand on a 30 druid - especially at MR prices. So the loss of stats is not so pronounced. Get up to planar gear and you are quite right - although there are probably some stonking 2H weapons there as well.

Personally I've always found the sums didn't add up and that a decent shield and primary could give me better stats than a 2H weapon but it all depends on what your budget is and what is available. Just as an example: On MR Crystal Chitin Shields seem to go for about 3k instead of the 500pp they are elsewhere.

For me a druid is about mana pool and not melee. The only melee skill you really need is Defence and that may take a bit of melee now and again.

I'm with Cobra on this one.

If your soloing do it however you want. But in a group situation your DPS is far more medding and casting than it is having you in there meleeing. Not to mention any mana the healer has to waste healing /rezzing ya.

My druid has 1HS and 2HB maxxed and even with STR capped his melee damage is pitiful. 1 dot does far more damage than I will even come close to meleeing. If you want to get your melee skills up for RP or whatever that is fine but when your in a group unless all of the members understand your intentions before you are invited you really owe it to them to try to be the most efficient that you can at your class.

YMMV

Scimitar of the Emerald Dawn is one of the nicest 1HS a Druid can get, pretty much until Epic 1.0. The Mana boost and DMG is what drove me to buy it. When I am in a group, I keep this in my hand, and just keep medding. I hate the graphic on it though. Such a great weapon, such a tame look.

Bone Handled Scimitar, IMHO, is nicer for Meelee. It has a lower DMG, but the its a little faster. Killer graphic as well. Thank you again to whoever gifted me with this fine piece of weaponry.

For 1HB, you can't ever go wrong with a Centi Warhammer. I am still using mine, just waiting for the day I can pull my Copper Hammer of Striking out of the bank.

Lastly, Druids DO meelee after 20th level. We just try not to. :-)

I guess I was lucky enough to have the foresight to try to keep all skills maxed, seeing that 2.0 is now 1HB - the whole time I was using 1HS because, it was what my epic would eventually be...

Smoldering Brand.

Pretty fast 1HB with a DD proc that goes off from Level 1. One of my favorite weapons for new toons I'm twinking and levelling.

Shields offer too much benefit for realistically considering using a 2-hander as a druid IMO.

Also like Scimitar of the Emerald Dawn for the +100 mana.

And once you can quad, Lumi Staff is a must-have for druids. It's even useless without quadding since its nuke can be cast single-target to finish off a mob you're root-rotting when you're OOM. Yeah, it's a 2-hander but I would keep it in bag and only use it situationally.
