Hell, you guys probably don't even remember back this far, but I'm trying to grind up my rogue's poisonmaking and maybe make a run on the Grandmaster Seal since recent hunting left me with jacinths and black sapphires coming out of my ears. Enough to make an attempt on a seal anyway.

So my rogue is at about 172 or close enough to grind out some more Calcium rot. Past that, my idea was Dilapidating Ash (triv 183) which uses Soot Hemlock. Annoying to farm but still easily farmable in the SolA or if I get lucky on merchants. Then Monk's Hood Aconite using Wolf Bane from Splitpaw to 194 and finally Stiffening Ergot to 200ish using Heartsting Venom Sacs from Field of Bone. I also stumbled upon a couple stacks of tares lichen for Amnesic Lolium (triv 234) which I can at least grind some with though I have no illusions of reaching 234 on it.

I've heard that after 200, it's cheaper to go to stanos and buy advances than to try to keep grinding. True? Anyway, I was just curious how you guys got your poisonmaking on up there. According to an EQ Dev comment on EQTraders, DEX is used in Poisonmaking as a 3rd trait (like STR in smithing) so I've gone that route and have a decent DEX kit, my +5% Poison gizmo and graba Harnessing of Spirit before starting. My DEX isn't capped, but it's around 230-235 before I get started. I might keep my eye out for more cheap, high return dex gear.

Speaking of poisonmaking, are there any good sites on skillup paths around? Or even advice on the paths you took. It seems eqtraders is woefully lacking. My skill is only about 13 right now and I'm thinking of persuing it in the near future. I can always farm components with my druid if dropped items are best.

On EQTraders MB's;

Quote:
Make Poison
0 - 54 Poisonmaking Freebie: Help Uiyaniv
55 - 98 Atrophic Sap
99 - 172 Calcium Rot
173 - 200 Visceral Rot
201 - 230 Essence Of Rallos
231 - 250 Spirit Of Sloth

Those last few skill ups are the most painful, that's where I'd spend my training points...I think 250 is less than 100pp to train, so I would guess it would be a lot cheaper to use training points than buying ingredients and/or farming.

Link to the post which containes the quoted info;

mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=17915

I forgot to add the DE rogue trainer in PoK will train Make Poison to 250.

I found it easiest to sort EQTraders by trivial for Single Dose Poisons and then start seeing which ones could be made with all store bought components. Up to 172 at least you never have to touch a mob to skill up poisonmaking so long as you can finance your operation. You wind up with a lot of pretty useless poisons that way but you can always sell them back. Then again, I'm still going through Calcium Rot and Aching Blood.. heh

I lucked out and did the bulk of my poison making while zombie skins were selling for 10pp or so each to people working up Pottery. So instead of making vials, I sold a single component and had enough plat to buy seven vials. Not a bad deal Smiley: wink The market's collapsed now but my bard already has the poison vials trivialled and about 160 skins in the bank so I can always grind out my own.

I suppose someone might mention the Safehouse. I didn't see a decent guide for skilling up there which was suprising and disappointing seeing as how it's supposed to be "the" rogue site.

More to share...

Lord X, I suggest the Absymal Sea poison making quest to get your skill to 50 something for free.

Kill every NRo, SRo and Oasis snake and spider you see...the ingredients from those mobs will help not only your make poison but also you apply skill, if you ever intend to use it.

A very old link but still a good place to start;

Bah! I can't cut and paste links today! Kiky's poison's pages is what I was referning to, and the link from the thread at EQTraders will get you there (click on the link below to go to the EQT thread).

EQTraders has improved their Poison Making info the past year. I suggest you don't give up on it.

The LoY posion recipes are there.

Finally, go to this thread,

mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=322

and scroll down to the last (of 4 or 5) post. There is the link to an excellent guide (that I can't seem to copy the link to, here).

Just a tip Joph. Get the Shaman to buff you with Infusion of Spirit as that will also stack with his other dex buff. May get you to the cap.

Given that everything for Spirit of Sloth is vendor purchased, I'm not sure why one would want to farm Unrest for ungodly amounts of grave mold and mushrooms unless money was a factor. I missed Spirit of Sloth on the list when I was looking for vendor purchasable combines so I might go with that after I blow through my farmed Soot Hemlock and Tare Lichens. Dependant on how much an Ethereal suspesion costs, anyway.

E. Suspension: 2pp and change. Seems worth it vs wasting night after night farming skeletons and gnolls.

Vendor farming is a bit shunned upon but if you make a list of all drops that help you skilling up and farm vendors for a single day through PoK, Bazaar, Wayfarers Camps and any other vendor easily reachable through books you should come home with about 10 stacks of components.

Of course not right now after the patch ;-)

Yeah, I did some of that before but Tares Lichens sell back to players for 3pp and change and Soot Hemlock is about the same. For that kind of trouble, I'm better off buying the 2pp suspension and a couple 1.5pp vines direct instead of having to look at a thousand merchants.

Nice idea though, thanks. I was just one step ahead of you Smiley: wink

lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=13799

Can be used instead of a zombie skin or pelt to make vials...

I guess there is an second, "alcoholic" version of this item that may not be combinable.

All the stuff for Spirt of Sloth is available in FV. That's where I grinded from 200 something till 240 something and then gave up and spent training points to get to 249. I shouldn't have bothered to go that high, 'cause with geerlock, your skill be be maxed at 252 anyway...you can casually get those last few skill ups while making >250 poisons for your use (all the while your skill is maxed with geerlock/vial/seal so you don't suffer any % chance of success penalty)

Is Poisonmaking level capped? Typical (Lvl*5)+5 deal? For some reason I thought it wasn't but I never ran the math. My rogue is 46 which would put a traditional cap on me of 235 unless they hard cap it at 200 until 50 like some other skills.

It's been a while since I did poisonmaking, but I did went the Calcium Rot-way. (I think you need King's Thorn etc. That recipe)

I took Eivi to 180 before I got fed up with the ungodly amount of mouseclicking, and haven't looked back.

Until now.

Something tells me that you need the Assassin's Seal for the new epics.

Granted, it's a hunch, but maybe I will be taking poisonmaking up again, soon.

New tradeskill interface makes tradeskilling a breeze. You only need one successful combine then all after you just click 'repeat' until all your components are used. No dragging of all parts etc.

Even I am considering raising fletching to 250 Smiley: eek

Made 200 last night Smiley: smile

Of course, I had forgotten my skill was capped at 200 because the rogue is only lvl 46 and proceeded to blow a stack of sealed vials trying to get to 201.

I went and used Calcium Rot up to 172, used up my Tares lichens and Soot Hemlock and then proceeded to just grind on Spirit of Sloth for the rest of it. My bard had about 160 zombie skins sitting in the bank from back when they were worth something so I turned them all into sealed vials and saved some cash. As an aside, it took about 140 sealed vial combines to go from 187 to 188 in pottery Smiley: oyvey

210 now with Geerlok. I might make a single shot at the Grandmaster Vial. If I succeed, I'll laugh at the world. If not, I'll learn the price for my hubris (blue diamond, black sapphire, vial of purified mana, etc) and wait until I'm in my 50's and can raise up my Poisonmakin' cap to try again.

Sorry about necroposting this but it has allot of good advice on poisonmaking in it. I was finally able to ding 300 yesterday and used Scoriae Bite to get from 275-300. GEPs and phosphorous powders can be vendor farmed pretty reliably and the rest is vendor purchasable. A grandmasters seal definatly helps as I could reuse my advanced vials over and over again.
