Help with SK Evocation skillFollow

As an SK, I got my first Evocation spell at level 22 - against undead only. At level 42, I can't even cast it because it fizzes so much, but as some of the later level evocation spells are quite good, it is not a skill I want to let wither. I cannot go to PoK and cast it on myself because I get the message it is undead only. I would rather not waste points on it, but I am having trouble figuring out how to raise it. Could I duel a Necro friend's pet in an arena and cast on it? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Evocation was a problem for me and at times still is. Though we are the Master's of death we often don't get to use the spells enough to be proficient at them.

My suggestion is to go to a low level skeleton ruins somewhere and cast in your spare time over and over till you raise your level.

Bingo. Assuming your friend isn't a wiseguy, all he/she has to do is give the "pet back off" command every time you cast.

Another option is, of course to just go nuke a ton of decaying skeletons. I'm guessing though, that you want to skill up as quickly as possible.

you can summon a pet and cast your cheapest undead dd on it continuosly. just go to a safe spot (like EC tunnels) and have at it.

Even easier. Go to any newbie area. Kill a decaying skeleton. Do *not* loot it. Target the corpse and cast your anti-undead nuke over and over.

To this day, I do not understand why people assume they must target a live mob with a nuke. By far the easiest method for raising evocation is to just kill a mob and nuke it's corpse until it poofs, then get another newbie mob. A mob with any loot on it will last like 7 or 8 minutes. And it's a hell of a lot safer/easier then mucking around with dueling or any other such non-sense.

Want to add. I don't think this will work. You should get the "target is protected" message if you attempt to nuke your own pet. I don't know if you'll still get skillups or not from that. Probably not. Otherwise, you could just target any PC to work up evocation, and I've never heard of anyone doing that.

This is odd, as I am having the same problem with my SK, but its slowling raising its skill level. I go to PoK and grab a C3, then summon my lowest level pet, then nuke his *** with 'Ward Undead' until mana drains. You should improve a decent ammount of times. When mana runs out, med. Mod rods help very well for raising skills, also. Just curious, whats your Int at? Mines 84, and as a 44 SK, I feel like I lack in the casting department.

I can confirm targeting your own pet and casting on it works its how i keep my evoc skill maxed for my 35 SK, and he wont poof (8

Do I have to nuke my own pet in a "safe" area like PoK, or do I have to take him somewhere else to skill up. It did not seem to raise when I tried this in PoK, but maybe I was not patient enough. To answer someone's question, the SK is a Dark Elf (not sure what yours is but he sounds like an Ogre maybe) and although I am not sure about his exact INT, I estimate it to be around 140.

Thanks for the tips!

Nah, You can do it anywhere. I nuke mine in PoK, while using C. Good INT btw, I have 250 str, and 84 int. :)

Click The Arena Portal in PoK, zone into The Arena
Just stand beside PoK book, use level 18 [Ward Undead] to nuke your pet till Evocation max.

Regarding weapons skills, need to head North to be inside Arena (pvp) area, auto-attack Merc to skill up (You can then go afk)
PS. remember to set Merc in passive stance to save upkeep cost.

Something I have found is those spider bite potions will give you a chance at evocation skill when they proc. Even if they are resisted it still offers a chance at evocation skill.

Zombie-tacular.

I remember I skilled up by 'nuking' ("Target is protected") my pet while standing in the Guild Hall regen pool for maximum efficiency.

The problem with the arena as our necro poster suggested is that you are now in a pk area. ANYone wandering by while you are afk can kill you.

It's a level 18 spell now called Ward Undead (See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=218 ), and I used to go to Befallen, in the NE or SE most room of the first floor, there's a single skellie that heals itself, that the spell won't kill, but you can cast it every few seconds after it heals itself to get alot of skill ups. I don't remember if I'd put any starter pts in it or not, but probably by 20-30 skill you shouldn't be fizzling too much.

EDIT: And bah, a necro thread. I knew there was a reason I hadn't replied yet. :P

I recently used Ward Undead to skill up by casting on my pet. Worked like a charm.
