Switch servers or not.Follow

#1 Mar 04 2004 at 8:37 AM Rating: Decent
So I'm kinda in a bind. I've recently moved to japan. The time difference is 14 hours ahead. It kinda throws things off a bit, having problems getting to raid and such. Anyways..thinking of switching servers to one of the Euro servers, or the like. Just wondering if anyone has any exp with them. I know they are under a different company or something. I have many friends, and some family on sarayn, but hard to play if nobody else is online. Just looking for opions before I dish out the 100+ bucks for the switch.

Thanks all,
Avengance

I have never given much thought to switching servers, but unless you can get a sense of what the Euro servers are like from this forum, you should probably create a new toon on one of them to see firsthand what it is like. That way, you can check it out before you shell out the money for switching.

A lot depends on what you wanna do. Some servers have some pretty big asian-based player bases, so I'd just sort by population and start checking out the busiest during your hours. My server (veeshan) has a pretty big asian player base, but kind of a smaller european one, so really it all depends on what hours you wanna play and whether european hours or asian hours suit you better.

A lot of the higher-end Asian players left Innoruuk for one of the Euro/Asian servers when it first opened. If I remember right almost an entire guild moved, plus others of course. Oddly very few European players left.

Calimyr has a good point - watch the populations, and when you narrow it down to a handful of servers, see if there are server message boards you can cruise to get a feel for the attitudes of players in and toward various guilds.

I don't know if I'd servermove if my hours changed. If they changed so much that I had to leave my guild, though, I probably would. There aren't any Euro/Asian guilds on my server at our level.

Just three of the european servers are under a different company (Ubi Soft). Two of those are localized, just Venril Sathir is english. If you want to go there remember that you cannot go back to a SOE server.

Then there are the two europe-based SOE servers, Antonius and Kane Bayle. Not much of an asian community on AB as far as i can tell, but I wouldn't see much of them anyway since japanese prime time is probably very early in the morning for me. Japanese play times should be as far from europeans (+8 hours) as they are from americans (-8 hours) so moving to a euro server won't improve your situation just because it's in a different time zone.
Don't forget Aussie guilds though. They should be in the same time slot as you and they speak english... something similar to english at least. On AB there's one notable australian guild, Shattered Faith, that I know of. They are doing Ssra and NToV at the moment afaik. I'm sure there are major aussie guilds on other servers and joining one of those may be another option...

If you move to one of the UBIsoft servers (who run the 3 european servers) you will be stuck on them , as there is not transfer service from UBI back to SOE.
