I have been using my Black Acrilya Halberd as my main weapon for the last 4 levels.. Last night I got the following on an EC LDON. Level 55 now.. Usually at ~ 4400 hp and 1100 AC when fully buffed...

I have also started hunting in POI lately as our groups MT.. Since in there my main job is to keep agro and stay alive would I be better off using that shield and my 1hb ( I have a mace of the fallen crusader ... may get a scepter of lighting soon ) for the extra AC and HP's??? Or does the xtra dam I do with the halberd and less reposite hit backs I would get using a slower weapon mean I should stick with my 2hs??

In general, unless you have a 1h weapon that is vastly better than your 2h weapon, after level 50 it is always best to fight with 2H weapons as a knight tank.

1) 2H weapons have higher dps than comparable 1H weapons even if the ratio is the same due to the 2h damage bonus. If the mob dies quicker, you take less hits during the battle

2) 2H weapons are usually slower, therefore you take less ripostes which becomes a huge factor when you start fighting mobs that hit for 300 plus

3) Slower weapons also allow you to cast your aggro spells between swings, and therefore you don't lose as much dps by casting.

The combination of these 3 factors will nearly always be more significant than any additional AC and HP advantage you get from a 1h and shield, unless you havew a crappy 2h and an uber 1h and shield.

Sceptre of Lightning, 25 / 25, 40 hp etc, only about 1k. That's a very good 1hb weapon to go with the shield. If you get more AC and HP with 1h weapon + shield, then it is a better choice while tanking. It is correct that 2h weapons deal more damage, but as a knight, attack from the front of the mob, dps is going to be low anyway.

I tend to go with weapon + shield, just my perference. I think at the end it is about the same, it is just interchanging dmg with ac/hp back and forth.

Wrong. As i have explained, extra ripostes and an extra round or two from the mob due to reduced DPS will be more significant than the frankly minor extra AC and HP you are adding.

Not only do they do more damage, you also take less damage.

Romidar Trueblade posted an article at the Paladins of Norrath site with possibly the most rigorous and scientific analysis of why 2H weapons are generally better than 1H at high levels. He crunches numbers like nobody's business and looks at both the offensive and defensive advantages when tanking.

Though the article is written from the paladin perspective, it would apply equally well to shadowknights. It would not apply nearly as well to warriors, who need proccing weapons to help them with aggro (knights can rely on spells).
