Paladins are fighters, not healers. Need I say more?

Your heal spells are lower because you're a mellee class with clerical abilities...your lull spells and stuns are more important to groups that your heals are, though in your higher levels your heals get better.

Whether you want to play a healer or a tank is what it boils down to...even thouugh clerics can fight, they spend a great deal of their time sitting on their toosh medding and healing until the higher levels. Though pallies don't get the best of all heals they are good tanks for all general purposes.

My first ever character was a pally, back in the beginnig of EQ, i personally got bored wuth him and started a cleric, and havent looked back since! However pallys were pretty lame back then, and are much more sort after these days!

But as stated b4 it all depends on ur preference, id say that if u are thinking of changing, then a pally isnt right for u!

If healing is what you want to do, then choose cleric, but beware you will be a weak fighter, and will always need to team up with a class better at fighting.

The first two rounds of paladin spells are fairly weak, but they do get better as you advance upwards. Typically you will want to bind wounds up to 50% and then use your healing spells after that point. The spells are not very mana intensive, thus you can chain cast quite a few of them.

When choosing between a cleric vs. paladin you need to determine if you want to only group or solo a bit. Clerics (particularly dwarven clerics) can solo up to around level 20+, but after that point they rapidly become a grouping only characters. Cleric's healing spells will always significantly outperform the paladin's, but this shouldn't be the reason why you create a cleric.

The cleric is a very social class and almost always found in grouping situations. If you love to group and work well interacting with others, then a cleric may be the right character for you. As a priest your role will be primarily to sit in the back and heal you party members; sitting down when the occasion calls for it in order to meditate and regenerate mana. Post 20+ clerics will very rarely enter into combat. As stated earlier the Paladin is a Fighter and the Cleric is a Priest. Both have entirely different roles in the game.

I am on the same server and am always looking for a good Pally to team up with. I am a 65 Cleric, so level up and then find me.

The game is designed for playing in groups. If you expect your own healing to always be enough to solo your character then you will be disappointed with either Paladin or Cleric. The Paladin can solo better because they can at least give and take decent amounts of damage. The Cleric cannot really solo well despite having better heals.

At level 14 this is probably not apparent. Clerics just got their 100hp heal and they can still whack things pretty well. That will soon pass and they will need a strong tank like a Paladin taking the damage while they concentrate on healing.

You have started on the one server where you cannot try out both characters. I assume this was a conscious decision.

What you could do is start a Cleric on Stromm or Morder Rasp and see if you like it. You can always try out new classes on other servers even if FV is your main choice.

Do you want to tank or heal?

That is pretty much all you need to answer. Myself, I have a 65 pal & cleric and enjoy both!

My 3 mains are 45 clc, 46 pally and 48 chanter and I have enjoyed playing all of them since they play very differently.

The Pally is basically a weaker version of the war but with a significant advantage of being a self healing one. I agree that the heal lines are very weak early on, but don't forget Lay of Hands for full heal once a day - Clcs dont get complete heal until their late 30s (39 I think of the top of my head). The pally will be able to solo well into their 30s while the clc is pretty tapped out for combat in the 20s. Pallys also get root, stun, and soothe which will become more important as you progress. They can also rez in a pinch, but will always be weaker in spells than clcs (but stronger in combat). Pallys are popular pullers in LDON, though other classes shine here as well not all of them can MT.

Clerics are awesome in groups, between bufs and healing to an occansional root or nuke if needed. Groups can succed without a clc in a pinch, but it makes it a major challenge in most cases. There is a reason that Clerics are the most popular class for LDON and almost never have to wait for a group.

We have 2 accounts and if you put a clc and pally together as a small group, you will find that they compliment each other quite well.

Bottom line is that both are good classes to play, but clcs really should be in groups while pallys have more flexibility in soloing.
