Planar progression pre-flagsFollow

When you recieve a pre-flag for planar progression, how long do they last? Is it a matter of hours, days, or weeks? Or do you have to accomplish the given task in the same EQ session that you recieved the pre-flag? Is it the same time table for all of the advancement quests?
