Is there an eay way of finding out what my standings are with the various factions ?

The only way is to go up to an NPC on that faction and /con them.
Try not to get in aggro range before you con them.
The faction list to the left will give you some idea of like/dislike. I dont have to go near any de to know I'm not liked.
