A Fun Class To PlayFollow

#1 Feb 23 2004 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys,

I'm looking to do an alt to just play on the side while my friends catch up to me. What is a "fun" class?

I am thinking of doing a bard, or a warrior, but really have no real idea what is "fun". I love my druid and this char I will play when I get too far ahead of my friends.

Thanks guys!

For pure fun "edge of your seat" factor, go with a bard. You can play them lazily...but they are so much more fun to play twisting 4 or 5 songs at a time, running for your life, charming the last mob in line, DDing and slowing all at once....

Can get pretty hectic. They are the king of soloing, I don't care what anyone says. Nothing like swarm kiting.

I love the challenge of my little enchanter, but when I don't want the group to be dependent on me and want some some mindless hard hitting melee I load up my rogue. Being the main healer or CC guy is really stressfull for me, most of the time I like being the guy who "saved the day" but sometimes I just want to relax and let it be someone elses problem.

I think Beastlords are super fun, can be as free or as stressful as you want them to be. Usually I'm just DPS, but in my time I've been Crowd Control, Main Tank, main slower, etc. Almost every night I learn something new. My only recent issue has been when I get chain LDs going...having to spend a third or more of my mana (really only a huge issue at higher levels) to re-summon and re-buff my pet is a real pain, especially having to do it 3 times in 30 minutes. I'm starting to find Mod Rods very useful for once!

Game on,

Jaede

i was going to say ranger, they get to use most bowds and it is really fun to shoot that bow *pow*. that was gonna be the char i made when i RE-start eq nexto month, but this guy above talking about the rouge, plus a diff thread in eq forum about the rouges pickpocket ability might just make me pick one of them... nah RANGER!!! ;) *(pow*

I just started an alt Beserker and I'm having a lot of fun with him. Mine's a Dwarf, but others may prefer other races - (Troll, Ogre, Barbarian, Vah Shir).

Bard's melee ability is mediocre at best. They can be decent DPS, but their ability lies more in song than in head-2-head combat. You will either love the challenge of twisting songs, or hate it. One thing for sure, it will keep you on your toes. One missed chord can be very very bad.

I played a warrior to 43 (granted thats not all that high) but I just couldn't dig clicking attack and then taunt, kick, disarm rinse repeat. I finally made a hotkey to take care of all the clicking :p Then it was almost an afk deal, click attack, hotkey, go make a sandwich, come back, click hotkey, go grab drink, etc etc... I mainly play a shaman now, and I have to say, he's much more exciting than the warrior was (mostly due to resisted slows :]).

Warriors are very fun to play, and with the new combat abilities, they are sure to be even more fun...but you will have to be grouped. Warriors suck as solo. The bad thing about being able to take so much damage is you need to heal all those HPs.

Love my rogue. If it's an occasional character that you want to be able to solo, though, a beast lord or a mage might suit you.

A rogue or berserker. I have a 3 rogue and 4 berserker atm, mostly because I have been working on my main, the 50 ranger. I kinda like the challenge of a barbarian berserker since I like to hit foes up close and personal. Sometimes, I'll go with a rogue since I kinda like hitting them hard with a good backstab and the challenge of disarming traps and picking open containers.

I love my warrior =). Warriors can be a lot of fun, because they are very group dependent. So you will meet lots of people, and your warrior will develop a personality of his or her own. (Or maybe I have multiple personality disorder and it's only coming out through EQ =P ) However, there are a couple things to keep in mind:

1. Warriors CANNOT solo at higher levels (ie, past 10 or so). They are made for taking damage, not dealing damage, and there is little gear that will enable them to slow, snare, dot, root, or anything else that can make soloing easier.

2. Warriors are VERY gear dependent. A naked warrior might still be able to takes hits as well as, if not better than, say, a fuller geared rogue...but probably can't hold aggro enough to GET hit. Expect to be constantly looking for upgrades to your gear as you level.

3. A warrior is very easy to play, but hard to play well. Tanking (and 99% of the time, that's what you're doing..rarely does someone say hey, we need more DPS, let's get another warrior) means knowing when to taunt, when to bash or kick or slam to stun caster mobs, positioning mobs so the mages have line of sight for their spells and the rogues can get behind the mob so they can backstab and making sure the mob isn't half buried in the wall so that rangers can shoot arrows and wizzies can nuke and oh yeah, gotta make sure the mob is positioned so that the beastlord's pet doesn't push the mob into the 5 other bad guys just out of aggro range. You need to know where all your casters are so that when you lose aggro (which you will) you can get to them and get the mob off of them before they die. You need to know how to break mezz without the mob immediately going after the enchanter. You need to know that when a mob is rooted it attacks the closest person, so if the rogue is right up against the mob you need to be cheek-to-cheek with it. And you need to have a sense of humor because yes, you will die. And yes your casters will die, and they'll blame it on your aggro even when they were nuking at 100%.

So...if you're looking for a character to just fool around solo with while your friends catch up, warrior probably isn't the right choice...maybe necro or beastlord would be better. But if you enjoy the group aspect of the game and want to keep that with an alt, go ahead and try a warrior.
